I gasped in surprise. Who was this girl?
I felt like I must have saved the galaxy in my past life to be able to encounter such a powerful ally in this one.
The sound of approaching footsteps grew louder, like an army marching, sending shivers through my feet.
My heart raced as if it were about to leap out of my chest; it was more thrilling than dancing at a club. At least when dancing, there’s music, but now all I could hear was the unsettling sound of footsteps.
“This is bad! We’re surrounded!” I shouted, thinking that this was it—just when I had escaped the wolf's den, I had stumbled into the tiger's lair. My luck was truly terrible.
“Who cares! Strength brings miracles!” Zhong Dali roared, swinging his massive iron hammer. The hammer whistled through the air like a whirlwind, exuding an intimidating aura. Anyone who didn’t know better might think he was about to perform a circus act.
The girl also brandished her high-tech weapon, her gaze icy and unyielding, as if she could freeze her enemies with just a look.
I couldn’t back down either! After all, I was the protagonist; I couldn’t afford to falter at a crucial moment.
Taking a deep breath, I pulled out my trusty weapon—a rusty steel pipe. I had found this pipe among a pile of rubble, like a scavenger picking up scraps.
When I first discovered it, it lay in a heap of trash, mingling with broken metal and discarded items—truly a kindred spirit in misfortune.
Now, it had become my lifeline. Just thinking about it made me feel a little excited.
Although it looked old and rusty, like an antique, at least it was a weapon. It could serve its purpose for now; anything was better than going in empty-handed.
