Cold Ice City, the capital of the Shu Cang Empire, is a place where, despite its name, one cannot find any ice within its walls. Inside the Xiangguo Mansion, Gong Shangnan was busy cataloging his collection, living a comfortable life since the defeat of the Yinzhou forces. That esteemed individual had not reappeared, and his family had ceased to interfere with him.
"Master, a message from the family," a servant announced from outside.
"Read it!" Gong Shangnan replied, feeling annoyed. Family messages typically demanded resource contributions, and he was frustrated that while he toiled in this remote place for the family, the Gong Family offered him no benefits in return.
"Master, this time it's different; you should read it yourself." The servant handed over a jade tablet. Seeing it, Gong Shangnan quickly took it, realizing that this matter was significant. "Haha! Heaven is aiding me! If this works out, not only can I return to the family, but… haha!" After reading the contents of the jade tablet, Gong Shangnan burst into laughter. This was far more reliable than the tasks assigned by that esteemed individual from Shen Gui Men.
"Go! Instruct everyone to search for someone named He Er Gou. Remember to do so discreetly and report back to me immediately once you find him," Gong Shangnan commanded the servant without delay.
At that moment, Mo Wen was unaware that a vast net was being cast toward him.
Cold Ice City, located at the upper reaches of the Yan Luo River and at the end of the Yun Cang Mountain range, is just two hundred Bird Journeys away from the Yan Luo River. It is the closest imperial capital to the Yan Luo River in Cangyun Continent. Due to its proximity to Yun Cang Mountain, it is perpetually covered in snow; as snow accumulates over time, it eventually turns into ice. Legend has it that Cold Ice City got its name because it is built on this frozen ground. To the north lies the endless expanse of Yun Cang Gobi.
Outside Cold Ice City, Mo Wen sat in a tavern, pouring himself a cup of warm wine. After more than a hundred days of travel, he had finally arrived at Cold Ice City. Along the way, he had learned much about various forbidden places. Surprisingly, although Mo Family's territory was officially designated as forbidden land, it was not entirely off-limits; as Shopkeeper Gao from Extreme Goods Workshop had said, entry required official authorization—essentially registering one's identity and paying a fee for a token. However, the Shu Cang Empire imposed restrictions on who could enter these areas; only martial artists were allowed in and they must be accompanied by an official representative. Those who returned from these forbidden lands never knew their locations, which was unacceptable to Mo Wen.
"This young brother has been lingering here for several days; could it be that you are here for the forbidden land?" The tavern's shopkeeper took a seat across from Mo Wen. Although many customers frequented his establishment, few stayed as long as this young man.
"Oh? How did you deduce that I am here for the forbidden land?" Mo Wen furrowed his brow and poured a drink for the shopkeeper.
"Hehe, although Cold Ice City is a national capital, very few outsiders come here aside from Shu Cang people. The only ones who stay at my humble tavern are either traveling merchants or those seeking out forbidden lands," the shopkeeper said as he downed his drink and rubbed his hands together before continuing. "You've been here for several days now; with the city gate right ahead and no one coming to seek you out, what else could an outsider like you be here for? Thus, I surmise you are indeed here for that so-called forbidden land."
"Hehe, your insight is commendable; I am indeed here for the forbidden land. However, I am not well-informed about it and that's why I've been lingering here," Mo Wen replied. Contrary to its name suggesting danger or taboo, this forbidden land around Cold Ice City was more synonymous with wealth.
