The assassin from the Underworld clearly did not expect to encounter Meng Hao, a variable in their plans. The leader, dressed in black, snorted coldly, his voice grating like rusty iron scraping against itself. "Unappreciative! Since you want to meddle, then let's all die together!"
As soon as he finished speaking, the remaining black-clad assassins charged at Meng Hao in unison. Their movements were perfectly coordinated, blades flashing like ink splatters, sealing off all of Meng Hao's escape routes.
Meng Hao took a deep breath. He could feel a surge of power emanating from the Heavenly Axe, but at the same time, a faint weariness crept from deep within his body. He knew that the energy absorption of his bronze arm was not limitless.
"Come at me!" A glint of determination flashed in his eyes as the Heavenly Axe transformed into a bronze phantom, swirling like a whirlwind. The axe blade howled as it sliced through the air, accurately blocking each attack and sending sparks flying.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
The sound of metal clashing echoed continuously. Relying on the formidable defense of the Heavenly Axe and his own brute strength, Meng Hao forcefully repelled each incoming assassin. With every collision of the axe, the assassins felt their arms go numb and their palms split open. They realized that the defense of this woodcutter was simply unfathomable.
"This... this axe is not right!" One assassin gasped in surprise, glancing at the ancient Heavenly Axe in Meng Hao's hand with eyes full of dread.
Li Yunyan watched as Meng Hao was besieged, her heart racing. She knew that although Meng Hao had the upper hand for now, the assassins from the Underworld were like maggots that would only multiply with each battle. She quickly pulled a rune from her bosom, a look of determination flashing in her eyes.
"I'll help you!" Li Yunyan shouted, and the rune in her hand instantly transformed into a beam of bluish light that shot toward one of the assassins. The assassin was caught off guard and froze in place, unable to move.
"Binding Technique!" Meng Hao felt a surge of joy; he hadn't expected Li Yunyan to have such a trick up her sleeve. Seizing the opportunity, he swung the Heavenly Axe fiercely, sending the immobilized assassin flying through the air and crashing into several wooden pillars, leaving their fate uncertain.
However, it seemed that the assassins from the Underworld were endless. Outside, more shadows began to surge in; they smelled blood like sharks and surrounded the entire wooden house. The murderous aura in the air grew thicker and thicker, suffocating.
"Damn it! Why are there so many?!" Meng Hao felt an unprecedented pressure weighing down on him. He knew that with just himself and Li Yunyan, they could not possibly withstand such overwhelming numbers.
Li Yunyan's face turned pale; the internal energy within her was nearly depleted, and she could no longer maintain the immobilization technique. She bit her lip tightly, a flicker of pain flashing in her eyes.
Meng Hao glanced at the weakened Li Yunyan beside him, and a surge of intense protectiveness welled up within him. He suddenly pulled her behind him, and the Heavenly Axe erupted with a dazzling bronze light once more. This time, the brilliance was even more solid than before, forming a tangible shield that firmly protected them both.
He understood that this was the shield ability of the Heavenly Axe being pushed to its limits, but at the same time, a tearing pain shot through his body. This meant he was exhausting the power of the Heavenly Axe, and perhaps even depleting his own life force.
"I swear that today, even if it costs me my life, I will not let you lay a finger on her!" Meng Hao roared, his eyes bloodshot. He knew this was just the beginning.
