Lin Yuan had just hung up the phone when the ticking of the wall clock clearly pierced the tranquility of the night. The air in the rented room was thick with his sweat and a hint of cold metallic scent left by the technological instruments.
“Scientific Explosion, this might really be my trump card,” he murmured to himself, gently rubbing the blue energy sphere in his palm that still held a trace of warmth.
The screen from the live stream remained lit; although the audience was small, it was stable. Lin Yuan wanted to continue with a few more tutorial lines to complete today’s live stream. Suddenly, a peculiar chill mixed with the cool air from the air conditioner swept through, carrying an unusual aura—Lingqi surged, bringing with it a bone-chilling cold.
“This doesn’t feel right…” Lin Yuan squinted, sensing the fluctuations in the air.
Outside, a sharp sound sliced through the silence like a knife.
As he turned his head, a crisp crack echoed, and the entire window shattered as if severed by invisible threads. A gleaming demonic blade, Murakumo, burst through the night sky, followed by a figure that rolled mid-air and landed gracefully inside.
“Damn it! Not again!” Lin Yuan's expression darkened; his instincts told him tonight would not be peaceful.
Oozawa Naoki’s signature wicked smile appeared under the light as he gripped the demonic blade with one hand. Lingqi surged around the blade like a tide, heralding his astonishing sword energy.
“Lin Yuan, hand over your secret,” Dazai Naoki's deep voice carried an undeniable threat, as if ice were exhaled from the shadows.
Lin Yuan caught a glimpse of the swift strike from the demonic blade out of the corner of his eye. He couldn’t afford to be careless; he swiftly sidestepped, evading this deadly blow like a gust of wind.
“That speed… definitely not ordinary,” Lin Yuan thought to himself, quickly calculating his next move.
Dazai Naoki was indeed one of the top assassins of the Obsidian Empire. The sword energy was laced with a spiritual energy fluctuation he had never felt before—cold and precise, making it hard to counter.
“Scientific Explosion, unleash your strongest ability!” Lin Yuan gritted his teeth as Lingqi rapidly converged, merging illusions, sword energy, and Lingqi Explosion into a swirling sphere of black and blue energy.
The tip of Dazai Naoki’s sword shot towards Lin Yuan’s abdomen like a meteor in the dark night. The two forces collided in an instant, sparks flying as the air crackled with heat.
“Boom!” An explosion shattered the musty darkness of the room, dust and Lingqi swirling together as Lin Yuan pressed against the wall, using the shockwave from the blast to retreat quickly.
“Not bad; you’ve got some flair,” Dazai Naoki smiled slightly as he raised his demonic blade. The edge shimmered ominously, forming spiraling Lingqi sword energy that surged toward Lin Yuan like venomous snakes.
"Dazai Naoki, you are bound to lose tonight!" Lin Yuan gritted his teeth and spoke fiercely.
After enduring passive attacks for a long time, Lin Yuan finally seized the rhythm. The explosive power brought by his ability to devour and fuse allowed him to suppress his opponent in one fell swoop.
The remaining Lingqi surged like mercury as he condensed more energy, launching a barrage of attacks at Dazai Naoki.
Dazai Naoki struggled to counterattack, and amidst their clash, the Lingqi glimmered, creating a dazzling storm of light.
At last, Lin Yuan found the perfect opportunity and struck Dazai Naoki's back with a heavy palm. His devouring hand pierced through the skin once more, and in that moment, the dual fusion of Lingqi and cells empowered him like never before.
"No, I can't let him succeed!" Dazai Naoki's face showed despair.
In the face of imminent death, he spat out a heavy sentence, "Do you think this is the end? The Obsidian Empire... there is an even greater power..."
Before he could finish, his body began to stiffen, the Lingqi dissipated, and the demon blade fell weakly to the ground.
Lin Yuan gasped for breath, feeling the new power that had been devoured and fused within him.
"It seems that the real challenge lies ahead..." he murmured.
Though this assassination ended in victory, the lingering sense of crisis in the air hinted at a deeper conspiracy.
Suddenly, his phone screen flickered to life with an unfamiliar incoming call.
