V's upward-slanting eyebrows furrowed slightly, and he blinked gently before slowly looking at me. With his lips slightly parted, he said word by word, "I believe that the killer, X, is not that man, but someone else entirely."
"Ah—" I gasped softly, "How could you think that?"
V cleared his throat and continued, "Point one: Why did X call you, B Man, and C Girl to the company to witness the murder live? Point two: Why did X install and detonate those micro-bombs on A Man to destroy his body? Point three: If X had already decided to commit suicide, why go through such elaborate measures to kill? If there was no intention of escaping legal consequences, why wear a mask to hide their identity?"
I listened intently, nodding as he spoke.
After laying out all the points, V summarized, "Therefore, I deduce that the man you saw hanging in the office of Executive Director is not the real killer, X. The real killer has already escaped!"
I was astonished by his conclusion. "You really are impressive; just from my account, you can deduce that the man is not the suspect."
V frowned slightly and glanced at me but remained silent.
"It’s like this," I cleared my throat and explained. "The investigation is being handled by a young detective named Huo Qi Xia. He is intelligent, calm, and composed. Initially, Huo Xingjing and others believed that the man hanging in the office was the killer based on the scene and our testimonies. They thought the case was closed. However, yesterday Huo Xingjing called me to say that the man was not the killer; there is another suspect."
V responded with a cold "oh," nodding as he gently bit his thumb.
I continued, "Yesterday, Huo Xingjing told me over the phone: ‘Miss Zhang, after further investigation, we found that the man who hanged himself in the office is not the perpetrator; there is another suspect.’ I asked, ‘Oh, but how did the suspect manage to move two large men into the company? Also, since the suspect clearly entered that office and it remained locked until you arrived, how did they disappear from there?’ Huo Xingjing replied, ‘I'm sorry, but we must keep details of how the crime was committed confidential. However, I can tell you that the perpetrator is an employee of your company—a girl named Liao Mengwei. The man who hanged himself was merely a scapegoat; he didn’t commit suicide but was killed by Liao Mengwei and then staged to look like a suicide.’ I asked him again, ‘Huo Xingjing, can you really not tell me how the suspect, namely Liao Mengwei, escaped from that office? It’s a sealed room without windows!’ In the end, Huo Xingjing said, ‘I’m sorry; it’s my duty to keep this information confidential. The matter is closed now; don’t overthink it anymore. Goodbye.’"
"The real X—Liao Mengwei—how she disappeared from that sealed office is what has puzzled you?" V asked.
"Yes," I nodded. "I'm really curious! She clearly walked into the office, locked the door, and then B Man, C Girl, and I kept our eyes glued to that door without looking away for even half a second. So why, when the police arrived, was Liao Mengwei, who should have been hiding in the office, nowhere to be found? Instead, there was a corpse of a man who had hanged himself? This is truly a locked-room mystery."
V gently twisted their neck and said in an extremely calm tone, "Everything is clear and obvious. Since you're interested, I'll tell you how Liao Mengwei disappeared from that office."
"I just raised three questions: First, why did X call the three of you to the company to witness the murder live? Second, why did X install and detonate a micro-bomb on A Man to destroy his body? Third, if X had already decided to commit suicide, why wear a mask to conceal their identity?"
