I listened with my mouth agape, my mind swirling in confusion while simultaneously feeling a sense of clarity wash over me. Once V finished speaking, I steadied myself, took a deep breath, and reflected on the situation. I felt that V's deductions were reasonable and must be very close to the truth. 0

However, suddenly, a question popped into my mind, and I blurted out, "Wait a minute! Since Liao Mengwei didn't enter that office, how did she seal the door?" 0

"Very simple," V replied. "Liao Mengwei used fishing line. She had previously looped a piece of fishing line around the doorknob of that office and secured both ends in a nearby location. After quickly moving out of your and C's line of sight, Liao Mengwei went to where she had secured the ends of the fishing line and pulled it hard, sealing the door. Then, she could simply release one end of the fishing line and retrieve it all." 0

"Ah?" I was slightly taken aback. "It’s that simple?" 0

"Yes, but you and C stubbornly believed that X had entered the office, so you insisted that the door must have been sealed by someone inside, without considering other methods." 0

I inhaled sharply and continued, "There's another issue: Detective Huo told me that there were blood footprints from A's body leading to the feet of the man who was hanged in the office. The blood on those footprints belonged to A, and they matched the shoes worn by the hanged man. In fact, it wasn't that man who killed A; it was Liao Mengwei. According to what you said, Liao Mengwei never entered that office after killing A. So why were her bloody shoes found on that man's feet? If she never entered the office, how could she have put those shoes on him?" 0

"That's also quite simple," V said calmly. "Before you all arrived at the company, Liao Mengwei used a syringe to draw a vial of blood from the unconscious A and stained it on the shoes of the man who would later be hanged. Then, wearing those shoes, Liao Mengwei walked into the executive director's office through the front door and put those shoes back on that man's feet. After the blood footprints dried, Liao Mengwei laid down a layer of plastic bags that closely matched the color of the floor along the path from the front door to the office door to cover up those footprints. After killing A, when Liao Mengwei headed towards the office, she walked on that layer of plastic bags so no new footprints were left behind. Moreover, since she didn't step where there were already footprints, she didn't disturb the original blood prints. At the moment she detonated the bomb on A's body, she pulled up the plastic bags all at once and then tugged on the fishing line to seal the door. Detonating the bomb, exiting from witness view, retrieving the plastic bags, and pulling on the fishing line to close the door—Liao Mengwei completed all these steps in one fluid motion without any interruption." 0

"That's truly impeccable reasoning!" I exclaimed. "Yes, our company has a back door; after completing all those actions, Liao Mengwei escaped through it. Additionally, many colleagues in the company know that B has been secretly in love with Liao Mengwei; this might explain why B was willing to become her accomplice. Also, why did Liao Mengwei throw down the axe before heading towards the office? Because she didn't intend to enter it; she had to discard the axe first; otherwise, if we found no axe in the office later on, her scheme would have been exposed." 0

"Indeed, your deductions are spot on," V confirmed my thoughts but with an extremely cold expression and no hint of praise in his tone. 0

"I really appreciate your help in unraveling this mystery," I said sincerely. 0

The stone of mystery had been set down, yet I didn’t feel any sense of relief. My heart seemed to be weighed down by another heavy stone. 0

"The mystery is solved; what about your inner turmoil?" V said softly. 0

"What?" I didn't quite catch what he said at first. 0

But he didn't repeat himself. Instead, he stared at the ceiling, let out a soft sigh, and casually said, "I'm tired. You can go now." 0

After saying goodbye to V and leaving that rented room, I walked alone on the desolate street. Watching the cars pass by on the road and the hurried crowd around me, my heart felt lost, as if I had lost all sense of direction. 0
