"Mu Fan, are you really that afraid of your brother?"
Old Jin looked at her son-in-law with disappointment in her eyes. "He pushed your wife into the water, and you're still defending him?"
"Mom, I'm not defending him..." Mu Fan's face turned crimson. "I just think, even if we win the lawsuit, what good will it do? He has no money, so we won't get any compensation. Instead, it will ruin our relationship, and how are we supposed to live in the village after that?"
"Relationship?" Old Jin scoffed. "What kind of relationship can we have when he treats us like this?"
"Mom, you don't understand," Mu Fan sighed. "Right now, he's got nothing to lose."
Old Jin looked at her son-in-law with a mix of disappointment and anger. "Mu Fan, you really disappoint me. Your wife is being bullied, and you won't stand up for her; I got beaten up, and you tell me to let it go. Are you even a man?"
Mu Fan felt his face flush with shame but still whispered, "Mom, I'm just trying to do what's best for everyone."
Old Jin sneered, "You're doing what's best for your brother, not for everyone!"
With that, Old Jin stormed off, vowing to seek justice on her own.

On the afternoon of October 10th, Old Jin came back again.
She pushed open the gate to Wei Fan's yard and walked straight in.
Wei Fan was lying on the bed resting. Hearing footsteps, he frowned and came out.
"What are you doing here again?" Wei Fan asked impatiently.
