At the village entrance, by the roaring flames, the villagers and the Toad Spirit were stunned by the sudden change before them.
Originally struggling in agony within the fire, Su Wan'er was now bathed in a holy light, slowly rising into the air.
"What... what is happening?" a villager stammered, his eyes wide with disbelief.
"God... a deity! It must be a deity descending to earth!" someone exclaimed, their voice trembling.
After a brief silence, the villagers finally reacted.
"Please spare us, divine being! We were blind and did not recognize your greatness!"
"Forgive us, celestial maiden! We were misled!"
Thud after thud, the villagers knelt on the ground, repeatedly bowing their heads towards Su Wan'er in the sky, crying out for forgiveness.
The Toad Spirit stood there in a daze, gazing at Su Wan'er high above, his eyes filled with shock and regret.
"Su Wan'er... no, celestial maiden... are you really a deity?" the Toad Spirit murmured to himself, his face pale and his legs trembling slightly.
He recalled every moment over the past three years—the things Su Wan'er had done for him flashed through his mind like scenes from a movie.
It was he who had pushed her into the abyss, he who had dug out her serpent core, and he who had ignited the flames.
"What have I done?" The Toad Spirit closed his eyes in anguish, tears streaming down his cheeks.
He knelt on the ground, bowing his head towards the sky where Su Wan'er resided, his voice hoarse as he pleaded, "Su Wan'er... Immortal Lady, I was wrong! I truly know my mistake! Please forgive me!"
He did not dare to hope for Su Wan'er's forgiveness; he only wished that she would spare him this once for the sake of their past relationship.
Su Wan'er looked down at the villagers kneeling before her, her eyes filled with a complex mix of emotions.
Her gaze shifted to Qu Ningyu, who stood among the crowd, and her expression instantly turned icy.
"Qu Ningyu, you schemed so meticulously, and now your true colors are finally revealed," Su Wan'er said coldly, a hint of mockery lacing her voice.
Feeling the chill of Su Wan'er's gaze, Qu Ningyu's heart sank as she realized her plot had been uncovered. She turned to flee.
"Thinking of running? It's too late now!" Su Wan'er scoffed, her figure moving swiftly to appear right in front of Qu Ningyu.
"What... what do you want?" Qu Ningyu stammered in terror, her voice trembling.
"What do I want? Of course, I am here to uphold justice and cleanse the filth!" Su Wan'er replied with a cold laugh, striking towards Qu Ningyu's chest with a palm.
"Ah!" Qu Ningyu screamed as she was sent flying backward, crashing heavily onto the ground.
"Cough!" She spat out a mouthful of blood as her body began to transform; her once alluring features twisted into something grotesque, and her smooth skin turned rough.
In the end, Qu Ningyu morphed into a massive toad, lying on the ground and convulsing uncontrollably.
"So it turns out you are the toad spirit that sought to steal my Serpent Dan!" Su Wan'er said with an icy glare. With a wave of her hand, she extracted the Serpent Dan that had originally belonged to her from within Qu Ningyu's body.
