Jiang Chen was well aware of Su Xue's thoughts; he wasn't avoiding the situation, just waiting for the right opportunity.
"Gui Li, are you going?" Jiang Chen asked when he noticed Gui Li standing there with a complicated expression.
"Of course I'm going," Gui Li replied quickly. With someone treating, it would be foolish not to go.
"Do you know the best restaurant in this city?" Jiang Chen inquired.
"I know, but that restaurant is very expensive," Gui Li said.
"We can just find a nearby restaurant and have a casual meal; there's no need to go to the best one," Alina, the blonde beauty, suggested. She had a keen eye and thought that Su Xue didn't seem like someone from a wealthy background, so it was better not to overspend.
The pure and kind-hearted Su Xue, surrounded by friends, naturally wouldn't be too materialistic.
"Alina is right. Jiang Chen... Brother, let's just have a simple meal at a nearby restaurant. The ones near the school aren't bad," Su Xue said.
"You can't treat your friends to a meal without going to the best restaurant. Trust me, Gui Li, lead the way," Jiang Chen said with a smile, his cheerful tone making it hard to refuse.
Su Xue looked at Jiang Chen's profile and suddenly smiled slightly, then agreed, "Okay, let's go to the best restaurant."

In New Haven, at an upscale restaurant where all the ingredients were high-end and naturally expensive, even a small portion of steak cost hundreds of dollars.
"So expensive! Jiang Chen, I must have remembered wrong; it might be several thousand dollars per person," Gui Li said hesitantly as he looked at the menu.
Alina and the other girls were also shocked as they flipped through the menu. They had never eaten at such an expensive place before. Coming from middle-class families in the United States, this restaurant catered to true wealthy individuals. Although Jiang Chen was treating them, they felt uncomfortable ordering such pricey dishes.
"Su Xue, why don't you help them order?" Jiang Chen suggested as he looked at Su Xue.
Su Xue nodded and quickly ordered the dishes.
"Do you think this is enough?" she asked.
"Not enough. Let's do this: instead of picking dishes, just have them bring out the best dishes, one for each person, and a bottle of the finest red wine they have," Jiang Chen said.
Su Xue's lips moved slightly, but in the end, she said nothing. Even if Jiang Chen was showing off, she couldn't bring herself to criticize him. If he couldn't afford the bill later, she would cover it.
Seeing Jiang Chen's extravagance, Gui Li and the others were stunned. They tried to persuade him politely, but Jiang Chen remained firm, and their attempts were in vain, so they stopped pressing him.
Soon, a table full of exquisite food was served, and the estimated cost had already exceeded ten thousand dollars.
"Waiter, how much is that red wine?" Gui Li asked as the waiter brought over a bottle to open.
"Eight thousand dollars," the waiter replied casually.
"What? Eight thousand dollars? We don't even drink red wine; don't open it," Gui Li nearly jumped up in shock. What a joke—one bottle of wine could buy an Audi Q7 in the United States!
Not only Gui Li was shocked; Alina and the others were equally taken aback. This meal would cost at least a hundred thousand dollars!
Su Xue's expression also grew serious; this was beyond her financial comfort zone. However, she chose to trust Jiang Chen without voicing her concerns.
Seeing the group so agitated, the waiter looked confused and eventually said politely, "Sir, ladies, someone has already paid for your meal. Even if you don't open the red wine, we won't refund any money."

Gui Li quickly turned to Jiang Chen with a puzzled look. When did he pay? He hadn't seen that happen at all.
Su Xue was also stunned; her gaze had been fixed on Jiang Chen, and she hadn't noticed him paying either.

Alina and the other girls were tactful enough not to ask further questions, but Gui Li, being chatty as ever, continued to pry into it with an insatiable curiosity.
However, Jiang Chen ignored him and focused on his meal instead. Gui Li had no choice but to fall silent; with a table full of food that had already been paid for, they no longer needed to hold back and dug in eagerly.
Su Xue ate elegantly while observing Jiang Chen closely.
"Jiang Chen has really changed," Su Xue couldn't help but smile, filled with anticipation for the future.
She knew that her mother did not think highly of Jiang Chen; during their last visit to Qingcheng County, her mother had pulled Jiang Chen aside and said some harsh words to him. If Jiang Chen could achieve success and make a name for himself, surely her mother would stop making things difficult for him?
The meal lasted an hour; despite all the dishes served, they still couldn't finish everything. The leftovers were packed up by Gui Li and the others to take back to their dorms—these were top-notch delicacies they usually couldn't enjoy. They planned to share them with their college friends for a treat.
"Brother Jiang Chen, do you still want this half bottle of wine?" Gui Li asked, eyeing the half bottle of red wine with a hint of embarrassment.
"You can take it back and drink it," Jiang Chen replied with a smile.
"Thank you so much! Brother Jiang Chen, you truly are from a wealthy generation. I believe now that a man like you really deserves our goddess Su Xue," Gui Li exclaimed excitedly. This red wine was a three-liter bottle, and there was still at least two liters left. Given its price, it was worth around sixty thousand dollars. Gui Li thought that taking this bottle back would definitely allow him to show off, and naturally, he had to say flattering things after receiving something from Jiang Chen.
Upon hearing this, Su Xue blushed and smiled shyly, filled with joy.
Jiang Chen then said, "To be worthy of your goddess Su Xue, I still have to work hard."
His words lifted the shadow of the "brotherly identity" that had hung over Su Xue. It seemed that Jiang Chen was not lacking in romantic understanding; perhaps he just wanted to become even better to have the courage to confess his feelings.
