During the Mid-Autumn Festival, I returned to my home country to visit my family. My parents picked me up at the airport.
In the car, my mother kept praising my good complexion.
“‘Timeless’ has gained some recognition in niche markets,” I said proudly.
“A few professional magazines have reported on it.”
“Did you know that the Zhou family invited us to their cocktail party?” my mother said mysteriously.
“Are you going with Dad and Mom?”
“Do we have to go? Well, if we must…”
The Zhou family’s cocktail party was held at a five-star hotel. Shang Mu greeted me with particular enthusiasm.
“Ke Ke, you’ve lost weight! Make sure to take care of your health while starting your business!”
She held onto me tightly, her tone warm but her eyes revealing anxiety.
Before long, Zhou Shaojun and Chen Jiayi appeared together.
The two were arm in arm, and Chen Jiayi's sparkling engagement ring was particularly eye-catching.
Zhou Shaojun looked sharp in his suit, but his expression seemed somewhat stiff.
“Miss Xu, I heard you started a luxury brand in the United States?”
Chen Jiayi's expression grew increasingly grim, while Zhou Shaojun remained silent.
Taking advantage of my trip to the restroom, Zhou Shaojun pulled me into the garden.
"Xu Ke, we need to talk." His voice was hoarse.
"There's nothing to discuss, President Shang." I coldly replied, noticing the dark circles under his eyes.
"The Chen Family has started to reduce their investments, and the project I'm in charge of is facing failure."
"So what?"
Zhou Shaojun took a deep breath.
"I know it was my fault from the beginning."
"Those words were just youthful folly, not sincere."
"But I took them seriously." I locked eyes with him.
"Thank you for helping me see my own worth."
"Xu Ke, if you're willing to come back, we can start over," Zhou Shaojun said tentatively.
"A partnership would benefit both sides."
"More like it would benefit your family," I smiled.
Zhou Shaojun's face instantly turned pale with anger.
I turned back to the banquet hall, immediately surrounded by socialites.
They eagerly inquired about the latest news from the New York fashion scene.
Chen Jiayi stood to the side, her expression dark and her gaze fixed on me with a brooding intensity.
At New York Fashion Week, "Timeless" achieved remarkable success.
"This design, which incorporates traditional Chinese elements, is truly groundbreaking!" a reporter from Vogue commented.
At the celebration party, reporters clamored for interviews.
"What was the inspiration behind 'Timeless'?" one journalist asked.
"It was Xu Ke who brought the essence of Eastern culture into the world of modern luxury," Wang Jiayan answered eagerly.
"Her talent and vision are unparalleled."
A warm current surged through me.
Mu Mu sent me a screenshot of domestic news.
"Zhou Shaojun and Chen Jiayi's engagement has been called off! The Chen Family has officially withdrawn their investment! Zhou's family stock prices have plummeted! Zhou Shaojun's father has been exposed for financial fraud!"
"Chen Jiayi has torn her mask off," Mu Mu gossiped in the video.
"She publicly accused Zhou Shaojun of deceiving the Chen Family, and even said, 'I should have listened to Xu Ke's warning.'"
I didn't feel any schadenfreude; I was merely struck by the irony of fate.
In the studio, Wang Jiayan handed me a notepad holder he had designed himself.
"I think this suits you better than those luxury items," he smiled.
I accepted it with gratitude, recalling that Zhou Shaojun had never given me such a practical and creative gift.
"Zhou Shaojun has been asking about you at parties lately," Mu Mu warned me.
"I heard he plans to go to New York to find you in a few days."
I realized that hearing news about Zhou Shaojun no longer stirred any emotions within me.
Wang Jiayan and I were busy preparing for the next season's brand plan, and the office was filled with a creative atmosphere.
"Xu Ke, there's something I need to tell you..." Wang Jiayan suddenly became serious.
My heart raced as I waited for him to finish his thought.
Suddenly, the office door swung open.
Zhou Shaojun stood there, looking disheveled and weary.
"We need to talk, Xu Ke," he said directly.
Wang Jiayan stood beside me.
"Xu Ke is working."
"I know her better than anyone," Zhou Shaojun said coldly.
"You only know her family background, not her talent," Wang Jiayan replied calmly.
Zhou Shaojun's expression darkened as he turned to me.
"Xu Ke, come back home. The Zhou family needs you."
"I won't return to be a spokesperson, nor will I invest in any projects of the Zhou family," I shook my head.
"Are you really that heartless?" Zhou Shaojun gritted his teeth.
"It's not about being heartless," I looked at him.
"It's that I've finally found my own value."
Zhou Shaojun fell silent for a moment, and ultimately chose not to speak again, leaving in disappointment.
Wang Jiayan took my hand, and I felt an unprecedented sense of reassurance.
