My breath grew heavy at Su Yu's whispered words, "Let's go somewhere, just the two of us." The allure in her eyes felt like an invisible hook, stirring chaos in my heart and tightening the string of reason in my mind. I could feel the sweat pooling in my palms, a mix of anxiety and a certain restless desire.
Noticing my silence, she lightly traced her fingertip across my chest, sending a shiver throughout my body.
"Hao Ran Brother, what are you still doing?" Su Yu's voice carried a hint of laughter, as if she were certain I couldn't refuse her.
I shook my head vigorously, trying to dispel the inappropriate images flooding my mind. I couldn't let her lead me around by the nose, at least not now.
"Xiao Yu, stop it." I lowered my voice, breaking free from her grasp and deliberately avoiding her burning gaze.
Su Yan's expression had turned extremely grim; she glared at Su Yu as if she wanted to devour her whole.
"Su Yu, do you really think you can deceive everyone?"
Su Yu smirked disdainfully, casting a provocative glance at Su Yan while maintaining her sweet demeanor.
"Sister, what are you talking about? I'm just concerned about Hao Ran Brother."
With that one sentence, this woman managed to clear herself of any blame while placing the "concerned" label squarely on me.
Deng Yufeng stood in the corner, his eyes behind sunglasses fixed on me like a venomous snake, his smirk deepening.
A warning bell rang in my mind; the appearance of these two sisters and Deng Yufeng's reaction hinted at something unusual brewing. I needed to leave immediately to avoid getting entangled in greater trouble.
"I'm sorry, I have something to attend to." I forced a smile at Su Yan and Su Yu before turning to leave.
Su Yu clearly didn't expect me to be so decisive; she paused for a moment but quickly regained her composure, the sound of her high heels clicking urgently against the floor echoed behind me.
"Hao Ran Brother!"
Her voice held a note of urgency, but I didn't look back.
I hurried through the crowd, still hearing the buzzing discussions around me and the faint sounds of argument between Su Yan and Su Yu. It wasn't until I burst out of the club and inhaled the cold night air that my heartbeat began to steady.
Leaning against the wall outside the club, I gasped for breath, my mind a tangled mess. The presence of those two sisters and Deng Yufeng's cold demeanor felt like a thick fog that had completely ensnared me. Everything that had happened tonight felt like a carefully orchestrated trap, and I was merely a pawn within it.
I took out my phone and dialed Wei Dong's number.
"Hey, Lao Wei, where are you right now?"
"I'm at the racetrack. Why are you asking me all of a sudden?"
Wei Dong's voice carried a hint of laziness, clearly still enjoying his nightlife.
"Get to the racetrack immediately; I need to talk to you."
I hung up the phone and gazed into the distance.
Tonight was destined to be a sleepless night.
The deafening roar of engines shattered the night sky as raindrops pounded against my helmet, creating a relentless rhythm.
I stood on the starting line, gripping the steering wheel tightly, my palms already soaked with sweat, my heart pounding like a drum.
The cars beside me were like beasts poised to pounce, their growls deafening, as if mocking me, the new challenger.
I took a deep breath, trying to calm my nerves.
This race was my debut and a life-and-death challenge.
I knew many were waiting to see me fail, especially those self-proclaimed elite racers.
I closed my eyes, and my father's hunched figure in the repair shop and my mother's weary smile in the factory flashed through my mind.
I couldn't lose; I had to win!
The referee's countdown echoed in my ears, and my heartbeat seemed to quicken with each number.
"Five!"
"Four!"
"Three!"
The red light illuminated, its blinding glare piercing through the rain curtain.
"Two!"
"One!"
"Bang!"
The starting gun rang out across the night sky, and all the cars shot forward like arrows released from a bow.
I slammed on the accelerator, and my car roared with an ear-splitting growl, tires screeching against the slick surface with a pungent burnt smell.
My car raced like a black lightning bolt through the rain.
Duan Kai's car followed closely behind; its dark body almost blended into the shadows of the rainy night.
I knew he was skilled at underhanded tactics, so I remained alert.
Sure enough, just before entering the first sharp turn, Duan Kai's car suddenly slowed down as if it had malfunctioned.
I instinctively wanted to overtake, but years of racing experience told me there was something amiss. I fixed my gaze on the rear of his car, and sure enough, in that moment of slowing down, his brake lights flickered. That wasn't a normal braking signal.
He was trying to lure me into overtaking, then use the slippery road to create an accident! A jolt of realization hit me—this bastard Duan Kai was indeed sinister!
I didn't fall for it. Instead, I jerked the steering wheel sharply, swinging my car to the right and maintaining a safe distance from Duan Kai's vehicle. Just then, his car suddenly accelerated, darting past me like a ghost and instantly widening the gap between us.
It dawned on me that his earlier slowdown was merely a ruse to distract me while he secretly modified his racing system for an explosive burst of speed.
"Damn it!" I cursed under my breath and immediately floored the accelerator, trying to catch up. The rain intensified, with large droplets pounding against the windshield, blurring my vision.
The massive curve loomed ahead; the road was slick, and every decision became crucial. My heart raced as if it would burst from my chest, but I forced myself to calm down. My mind raced, calculating the best angle to enter the turn and the optimal drifting path.
I saw Duan Kai's car in the curve, its body nearly parallel to the ground as he aimed to take the turn at maximum speed, leaving me no chance. I took a deep breath, slammed on the brakes, and turned the steering wheel sharply. The tires screeched in protest as I began to drift.
My car glided across the wet surface like a nimble fish, maneuvering with agility. The immense centrifugal force pressed me firmly into my seat, but I didn’t relax for a second. I kept my eyes fixed ahead; sweat trickled down my cheeks, further blurring my sight.
Just as I was about to complete the turn, Duan Kai's car suddenly slammed into me!
"Motherfucker, he wants to kill me!" A wave of shock surged through me as adrenaline spiked instantly. My left side collided violently with Duan Kai's vehicle, sparks flying as the screech of metal on metal sent chills down my spine.
I heard my car groan under the strain, and flames erupted from the rear. The impact nearly made me lose control of the steering wheel, but I gritted my teeth and held on tightly while pressing harder on the accelerator.
My gaze remained locked ahead; with extraordinary reflexes, I yanked the steering wheel hard to the right, narrowly avoiding Duan Kai's second collision attempt. My car brushed against the guardrail as it shot out of the turn, shaking violently as if it might fall apart at any moment.
My chest heaved with rapid breaths, but a cold smile crept onto my lips. Want to kill me? Not that easy!
I slammed down on the accelerator again, and my car roared toward the finish line. My vision blurred further, but I knew that the finish line was just ahead.
I could hear the thunderous cheers from the audience, clearly ignited by the thrilling competition. With the last ounce of my strength, I surged forward.
"Screech—"
My car crossed the finish line by a narrow margin.
I won!
I slammed on the brakes, and the car screeched to a halt just past the finish line. I unbuckled my seatbelt, pushed open the door, and stumbled out. The rain washed over my face, mingling with sweat, cold and invigorating.
I looked up at the sky, gasping for breath as my chest heaved.
I won; I really won!
The cheers from the audience were deafening, everyone standing to applaud me. A tired smile crept onto my face, but more than that was the joy of victory.
Just then, a soft body leaped into my arms. The sweet scent enveloped me—it was Su Yu.
"Hao Ran Brother, you won! You were amazing!"
Her voice trembled slightly, clearly anxious for me. She held me tightly, her soft body pressed against mine, sending a wave of warmth through me.
"This race is just the beginning."
Su Yu whispered in my ear, her voice soft yet resonating like thunder in my mind. I pushed her away abruptly and stared into her eyes.
"What do you mean?"
There was a hint of mischief in her gaze, and her lips curled into a faint smile.
"Hao Ran Brother, you'll find out soon enough."
