"Biological chain?" Zou Xingjing and Song Nian asked in unison.
"Eagles eat birds, birds eat insects, insects consume fruits, fruits absorb inorganic matter decomposed by bacteria, and bacteria break down the bodies of eagles. This illustrates the relationship between producers, consumers, and decomposers in the biological chain; it is a continuously cycling web of relationships. In this web, nature serves merely as a platform providing the environment without intervening in their actions.
"Our case is similar. The mastermind behind everything, much like nature itself, did not directly kill anyone but instead devised a plan. So how did these five individuals die? Just like the producers, consumers, and decomposers in the biological chain, they killed each other; their identities are not only that of victims but also of murderers!
"In other words, this is not a case of serial killings but rather several independent murders that are unrelated to each other!"
Upon hearing this, Zou Xingjing and Song Nian wore expressions of shock that lingered for a long time.
Zhang Qing continued to analyze the laptop: "Initially, Song Nian speculated that this case might involve an Exchange Murder. In fact, this deduction is correct to some extent. However, it is not a simple Exchange Murder case but a complex web of multiple Exchange Murders.
"An Exchange Murder refers to a situation where A hates B, C hates D, A helps C kill D, and C helps A kill B. In our case, Shen Zhi hates Sun Zhen, Wang Jian hates Shen Zhi, Xiao Wanshan hates Wang Jian, Yang Yanrong hates Xiao Wanshan, and Sun Zhen hates Yang Yanrong. Logically speaking, Wang Jian should have killed Shen Zhi, Xiao Wanshan should have killed Wang Jian, Yang Yanrong should have killed Xiao Wanshan, Sun Zhen should have killed Yang Yanrong, and finally Shen Zhi should have killed Sun Zhen.
"However, in reality, when Shen Zhi was killed, Wang Jian had an alibi; when Wang Jian was killed, Xiao Wanshan had an alibi; when Xiao Wanshan was killed, Yang Yanrong had an alibi; when Yang Yanrong was killed, Sun Zhen had an alibi; and by the time Sun Zhen was killed, Shen Zhi was already dead. Does this mean that the inference of 'these five individuals killing each other' is incorrect?
"This is where the mastermind's brilliance lies. Wang Jian hates Shen Zhi but does not allow Wang Jian to kill Shen Zhi; instead, they instruct someone with no vested interest in Shen Zhi—Xiao Wanshan—to kill him. Xiao Wanshan hates Wang Jian but does not allow Xiao Wanshan to kill Wang Jian; instead, they send someone with no vested interest in Wang Jian—Yang Yanrong—to lure Wang Jian out at a bar and kill him. Yang Yanrong hates Xiao Wanshan but does not let Yang Yanrong kill Xiao Wanshan; instead, they direct someone with no vested interest in Xiao Wanshan—Sun Zhen—to kill him. Finally, Shen Zhi hates Sun Zhen but does not let Shen Zhi kill Sun Zhen; instead, they instruct someone with no vested interest in Sun Zhen—Wang Jian—to do it.
"Thus, similar to an Exchange Murder scenario, when we investigate suspects based on motives for murder, we find that those with motives possess alibis that greatly complicate our investigation.
"At the same time, the mastermind also dismembered a black cat's body into five pieces and had each murderer place a piece at the crime scene to make us believe that each case was connected and that the murderer was the same person—creating the illusion of a serial killing case. The more we investigate in this direction, the further we drift from the truth and may never uncover the reality behind these cases!"
Hearing this, Zou Xingjing and Song Nian gasped for breath and were at a loss for words. Zhang Qing's reasoning was utterly unexpected—something they had never considered before!

Thus, the mastermind contacted each of the five individuals, instructing them to kill someone unrelated to them. In return for their actions, they would see their hated targets eliminated.
Shen Zhi poisoned Yang Yanrong by contaminating the drinking water in her home; Wang Jian devised a killing mechanism that would eliminate Sun Zhen at a specific moment; Xiao Wanshan used a fruit knife to kill Shen Zhi; Yang Yanrong strangled Wang Jian with a steel wire; and Sun Zhen committed remote murder by frightening Xiao Wanshan to death through a video in an email!
These five murder cases were interconnected by five pieces of black cat corpses, seemingly committed by the same person. Five murders, five victims, and simultaneously five killers! This formed a biological chain, a web of relationships, a vicious circle! The five of them fell into this circle, unable to escape; they could only kill and then be killed, creating an exceptionally perfect piece of criminal artistry for the mastermind!"
