"How much can it be? A few hundred dollars would be good enough," Su Qin said dismissively.
"Over a hundred thousand dollars," Su Xue replied.
"How much?"
"Over a hundred thousand dollars."
"Heh, Xue Er, do you really think saying that will make Mom believe you? Even if you're lying, you should consider the reality." Su Qin laughed. With her current status, she wouldn't even spend over a hundred thousand dollars on a meal. How could that poor kid Jiang Chen possibly have so much money?

"Xue Er, even if he is successful and worth over a hundred million, he still doesn't deserve to be your friend, let alone your boyfriend. You should give up on that idea. Looking at this familiar yet unfamiliar daughter before her, Su Qin felt a moment of confusion. In her memories, her daughter's voice had always been gentle; even when bullied, she rarely showed anger or resentment.
But now, this usually gentle daughter was having a fierce argument with her over a man.
Su Qin's sharp mind sensed the significance Jiang Chen held in her daughter's heart. Although they weren't officially in a relationship yet, this naive girl had likely already considered him as more than just a friend.
When gentle people get angry, their fury can be hard to extinguish. Su Qin didn't want to have an unpleasant confrontation with her daughter. Seeing that Su Xue seemed willing to disregard everything for Jiang Chen, Su Qin decided to relent. Su Xue gradually calmed down and sat beside her mother, feeling both nervous and expectant as she looked at Su Qin. Her mother had always been reluctant to talk about her relationship with the Wang family, and Su Xue had been careful not to ask too many questions. However, today, Su Xue heard another version from her mother. In this account, her father was not a heartless man but rather a devoted and kind individual. Although he was indeed married at that time, his relationship with his wife was devoid of affection—merely a marriage of convenience between powerful families.
Su Xue's father was tall, handsome, knowledgeable, and eloquent, while his wife was willful, arrogant, unattractive, and uncultured—like a village shrew. They would never have come together if not for their families' arrangements. Since their marriage, every day had been torment for Su Xue's father until he met Su Xue's mother.
Though from a rural background, Su Xue's mother was intelligent and beautiful. In that era, she managed to study abroad through her own efforts and spoke fluent English. Such a woman could attract attention anywhere. With her beauty, elegance, and extensive knowledge, after an unexpected encounter, Su Xue's father—the young master of the Wang family who saw no hope in his marriage—fell for her. At that time, however, he concealed his marital status.
