The medicinal herbs were quickly delivered, and Nangong Shuang immediately began to prepare the antidote. As she ground the herbs, she discreetly observed Xiao Zhongyan's reaction. Strangely, this Young Master of the Xiao Family seemed genuinely concerned for his cousin's safety, his anxious expression appearing sincere.

"Alright," Nangong Shuang said as she mixed the powdered medicine into warm water. "Take this first; it should alleviate the symptoms."
Xiao Zhongyan carefully propped up his sister and fed her the medicine. After a moment, Xiao Yuyan's complexion gradually returned to a healthy hue, and her breathing became much steadier.
"Thank you, Nangong Shuang, for your help," Xiao Zhongyan expressed gratefully.
Nangong Shuang nodded slightly. "You're too kind, Young Master. However, this poison is peculiar; it is both deceptive and perplexing."
Xiao Zhongyan pondered for a moment. "Could it be... that begonia we saw earlier?"
Nangong Shuang was taken aback, recalling how Xiao Zhongyan had led her to that Western Region Begonia, which she had avoided due to sensing something amiss. Could it be that the flower concealed a toxin intended for her but ended up harming Xiao Yuyan instead?
"Are you suggesting that Miss Xiao Yuyan may have come into contact with that begonia?" Nangong Shuang asked cautiously.
Xiao Zhongyan nodded. "After you left earlier, Xiao Yuyan indeed went to look at that flower."
Nangong Shuang sighed inwardly; it was just as she suspected. Xiao Yuyan must have intended to harm her but ended up suffering the consequences instead. However, since the poison was aimed at her, the mastermind behind it must know her true identity!
"Nangong Shuang," Madam Guo said with a grateful expression, "you have saved two lives; your kindness is truly immeasurable. Once the banquet concludes, I will certainly reward you handsomely."
"Madam is too kind," Nangong Shuang replied with a slight bow. "It was merely a small effort on my part."
At that moment, Xiao Yuyan had already regained consciousness and looked around in confusion. "What... what happened to me?"
"You fainted," Xiao Zhongyan explained. "Thanks to Nangong Shuang's timely rescue, otherwise the consequences would have been dire."
Upon hearing this, Xiao Yuyan looked at Nangong Shuang with disbelief before her expression shifted to anger and embarrassment. Nangong Shuang understood that this proud young woman was reluctant to accept help from a mere servant but could only endure the humiliation and manage a reluctant thank you.
"It’s nothing; we are merely helping each other," Nangong Shuang said calmly, though a sharp glint flashed in her eyes. "However, Miss Xiao Yuyan should be more cautious when walking in the garden in the future."
Xiao Yuyan's expression changed as if she sensed the underlying meaning in Nangong Shuang's words but found herself unable to refute them.
As the banquet drew to a close, guests began to take their leave. Just as Nangong Shuang prepared to depart with Miss Qian, Xiao Zhongyan suddenly stepped forward and blocked her path.
"Nangong Shuang, thank you again for saving my sister," he said graciously. "Please accept this jade pendant as a token of my gratitude."
As he spoke, he took out a small jade pendant and offered it to Nangong Shuang. The pendant was translucent and exquisitely carved with a lifelike plum blossom, identical to the Plum Blossom Mark on Nangong Shuang's wrist!
Nangong Shuang was taken aback and quickly composed herself. "This item is too precious; I cannot accept it."
"It's just a trifle; it's not worth mentioning," Xiao Zhongyan insisted, his eyes filled with an inexplicable expectation. "Moreover, plum blossoms have symbolized purity and steadfastness since ancient times; they perfectly match your temperament."
Under the watchful eyes of the crowd, Nangong Shuang could no longer refuse and accepted the jade pendant. "In that case, I shall not be polite," she said.
Xiao Zhongyan noticed her acceptance and a faint smile appeared at the corners of his mouth, as if he felt a sense of relief. Just as Nangong Shuang turned to leave, he suddenly spoke in a low voice, "Miss, your medical skills are remarkable. Are you aware of the incident involving the annihilation of the Nangong Family?"
