Nangong Shuang felt a chill in her heart, almost falling into the trap set by the other party. Zheng Yushi's question seemed simple, yet it was a test of her knowledge about the Nangong Family. If she answered too elaborately, it would raise suspicion.
"Isn't this common knowledge?" Nangong Shuang cleverly countered. "The Nangong Family Massacre Case caused quite a stir in the capital back then. Although I am an outsider, I have heard of it."
Zheng Yushi's gaze was as sharp as an eagle's: "It seems you know quite a bit about the Nangong Family, Miss."
Just as the atmosphere became tense, the Dowager of the Duke of State suddenly coughed: "Zheng, why must you dwell on this? Whether the Nangong Family is a victim of injustice or treason has nothing to do with today's Yao Yan. There are patients waiting for treatment; saving lives should be our priority."
Zheng Yushi dared not go against the Old Lady's wishes and had to temporarily hold back, though the suspicion in her eyes did not fade.
Nangong Shuang secretly breathed a sigh of relief and cast a grateful glance at the Old Lady before turning to Xu Taiyi: "Sir, may I personally prepare the medicine?"
Xu Taiyi nodded in agreement. Nangong Shuang quickly listed out the prescription and instructed the servants of the Li residence to fetch the herbs.
However, Li Yingxue suggested, "Since Miss Nangong is so skilled in medicine, why not go to the pharmacy yourself? Our pharmacy is well-stocked and can surely meet your needs."
Nangong Shuang understood that this was yet another trap, but she could not refuse and had to nod in agreement: "That sounds wonderful."
Li Yingxue ordered a maid to lead Nangong Shuang to the pharmacy. When Qiao Er saw this, she hurriedly wanted to follow but was stopped by Li Yingxue: "One person is enough; there's no need for so many."
Nangong Shuang slightly nodded, signaling Qiao Er to stay behind as she followed the maid out of the hall.
The pharmacy was located in the back courtyard of the Li residence, quiet and secluded. Along the way, Nangong Shuang remained vigilant, gripping a silver needle in her hand just in case.
Upon reaching the pharmacy, the maid opened the door but did not enter: "Miss Nangong, please go in. The medicinal materials are all inside; feel free to help yourself."
Nangong Shuang thanked her and stepped into the pharmacy. It was a spacious room with shelves lining all four walls, neatly organized with various medicinal herbs.
She quickly searched for what she needed and soon found most of them. However, just as she was about to grab some Aconite, she suddenly felt dizzy and weak.
"This is bad!" Nangong Shuang was alarmed and realized she had fallen into their scheme.
The pharmacy must be hiding some mechanism that released an odorless and colorless poison!
Struggling to maintain her consciousness, Nangong Shuang took out an antidote pill from her pocket and swallowed it while rapidly pressing on several acupoints on her body to temporarily stabilize the poison's effects.
At that moment, footsteps approached from outside, and then the door was pushed open. Li Yingxue entered with two burly men.
"Nangong Shuang, how is your search for medicine going?" Li Yingxue asked feignedly with a smug look in her eyes.
Nangong Shuang forced herself to remain calm: "Miss Li arrived just in time; I could use some assistance."
Li Yingxue sneered: "Nangong Shuang, stop pretending. This pharmacy is filled with Hazy Powder; an ordinary person would faint within moments of entering. The fact that you’ve lasted this long already proves your extraordinary identity."
Nangong Shuang's expression hardened: "What do you mean by that, Miss Li?"
"You know the answer but still ask!" A glint of malice flashed in Li Yingxue's eyes. "Zheng has long suspected you to be a remnant of the Nangong Family, and today's Yao Yan is a trap set for you!"
So that’s how it is! Nangong Shuang understood in her heart; this Yao Yan was indeed a scheme aimed at her.
Li Yingxue said proudly, "My father is on good terms with Zheng, so naturally, I must lend him a hand. Do you really think your little medical skills can deceive anyone? The unique techniques of the Nangong Family can be recognized at a glance by anyone with even a bit of experience!"
Nangong Shuang sneered, "Miss Li, are you sure you want to collude with the Shadow Pavilion?"
Li Yingxue was taken aback. "You... you know about the Shadow Pavilion?"
