Li Yingxue hesitated for a moment, then sneered, "Stop with your threats! No matter what you know, you won't leave here today! Someone, seize her!"
Two burly men stepped forward, ready to capture Nangong Shuang.
Nangong Shuang had been prepared; she shot out two silver needles from her sleeve, hitting the pressure points of both men. They let out muffled groans and froze in place, unable to move.
"You!" Li Yingxue exclaimed in shock, not expecting Nangong Shuang to fight back even while poisoned.
Nangong Shuang let out a cold laugh. "Miss Li, how about we end this matter here? We each take a step back, and everyone is happy."
Li Yingxue's expression shifted between anger and contemplation as she weighed the pros and cons.
At that moment, a bird call suddenly came from outside the window. Nangong Shuang's heart stirred; it was Qiao Er's signal, meaning someone was approaching.
Sure enough, it wasn't long before a voice called out for Li Yingxue: "Yingxue, why has Nangong Shuang been gone for so long? Xu the Great is getting impatient!"
It was Guo Chunyi's voice! Nangong Shuang felt a surge of relief; with an outsider present, Li Yingxue wouldn't dare act recklessly.
Li Yingxue glared at Nangong Shuang with resentment and whispered, "I'll let you go this time, but you'd better be careful. Zheng won't give up easily!"
After saying that, she raised her voice and replied, "I'm coming! I'm coming! Nangong Shuang just found all the herbs; we're heading back now!"
She then turned to Nangong Shuang and forced a smile. "Nangong Shuang, let's go back; we shouldn't keep everyone waiting."
Nangong Shuang secretly sighed in relief, quickly stowing away the herbs and following Li Yingxue out of the pharmacy.
Guo Chunyi stood in the courtyard and breathed a sigh of relief upon seeing Nangong Shuang. "Sister Shuang, are you alright? Why did you take so long?"
Nangong Shuang smiled nonchalantly. "There were many types of herbs; it took some time to find them."
The three returned to the hall together, where everyone was anxiously waiting. Xu Taiyi quickly asked upon seeing Nangong Shuang return, "Did you gather all the herbs?"
Nangong Shuang nodded and presented the herbs. "They're all here."
Under Xu Taiyi's supervision, Nangong Shuang personally brewed the medicine, carefully controlling the heat and timing. Soon, a bowl of dark brown medicinal soup was ready.
Nangong Shuang carefully fed it to the elderly woman and then massaged her abdomen to help the medicine take effect. Before long, the woman's complexion gradually became rosy, and her breathing grew steady and strong.
"All done!" Xu Taiyi stared in astonishment at the woman's transformation. "She's really better! This 'Wu Du Jie Gan Tang' is indeed miraculous!"
Everyone marveled at this result; even Zheng Yushi had to admit that Nangong Shuang's medical skills were truly impressive.
Li Yingxue's face turned ashen; she hadn't expected that her carefully laid trap would instead enhance Nangong Shuang's reputation.
The Dowager of the Duke of State nodded in satisfaction, looking kindly at Nangong Shuang. "Nangong Shuang, your medical skills are remarkable, and your talent in playing the qin is truly exceptional. You are indeed a rare genius."
Nangong Shuang humbly bowed. "You flatter me, Old Lady."
As Yao Yan concluded the praises around them, Nangong Shuang felt a lingering unease despite successfully diffusing the crisis. Today's events had confirmed her suspicions that Zheng Yushi was indeed becoming suspicious of her. She would need to be even more cautious in the days to come.
In the carriage on their way back home, Qian Wan'er excitedly grabbed Nangong Shuang's hand. "Nangong Shuang, you were amazing! Even Xu Taiyi couldn't stop praising you!"
Qiao Er, however, wore a worried expression. "Sister, you don't look well. Did something happen in the pharmacy?"
Nangong Shuang shook her head slightly. "It's nothing, just a bit tired."
She didn't want to worry Qian Wan'er, but the Hazy Powder from the pharmacy had indeed taken quite a toll on her. If she hadn't taken her medicine in time and used acupressure to resist its effects, she might have already fallen into unconsciousness.
