"Look! I've caught another one!" Yuan Yun shouted to me from about twenty meters away, holding up a lively carp that was thrashing its tail on the hook. 0

I turned my head away, pretending I hadn't heard her. This fishing trip was my idea, but after a whole morning, I had only managed to catch a pitiful little crucian carp, while Yuan Yun, who was handling a fishing rod for the first time, had filled her bucket with various fish, both big and small. 0

"Hey! Don't be so stingy," she called out excitedly. "I'll share a few with you." 0

As she lifted her bucket full of spoils and started to walk toward me, I quickly waved my hand to stop her. "I don't want your charity! Hmph, you're just lucky as a beginner. Fishing is all about patience and skill; let's see who catches more before it gets dark." Though I said this, I couldn't help but think that her luck was a bit too outrageous. 0

Time passed slowly, and before long, the sky began to darken. I looked down at the three lethargic fish swimming in my bucket and shook my head in resignation. It was clear that I had lost this competition, so I started preparing for Yuan Yun's teasing. 0

"Well? The winner is obvious now, right? It's getting late; we should head back." Just as I was mentally preparing myself for her jabs, Yuan Yun appeared beside me, having packed up her gear without me noticing. "Alright then, you win," I mumbled as I began to pack my own equipment. 0

The fishing rod and the six different sizes of hooks in my hands were specially bought from S City, yet they couldn't compare to the toy fishing rod she held. I could only chalk it up to local fish bullying an outsider like me. 0

I packed my rod and gear into a small box and slung it over my shoulder as I walked toward my car. Yuan Yun picked up my bucket and poured the three pitiful little fish into hers. The fish floated on the surface of the water in her bucket, their mouths opening and closing like tiny life rings, seemingly mocking my incompetence. 0

"It looks like I'll get to taste your cooking tonight; with so many fish, we can eat well for several days," I said as I walked and glanced back at her. At that moment, I was taken aback by what I saw—Yuan Yun raised her bucket full of fish high and dumped them all back into the river. "You... you..." I stammered in shock. 0

"What about it?" Yuan Yun replied as she vigorously shook the empty bucket. "We came here to fish mainly to cultivate our spirits and enjoy the fresh air of the countryside, not to harm these little creatures. If you want fish, go buy them at the market." 0

I couldn't help but feel touched by her kindness. Indeed, our purpose for coming out here wasn't just to fill our stomachs; besides what she mentioned about cultivating our spirits, I had a third motive—to strengthen our relationship. But then something struck me about her last remark: "You want me to go to the market? So eating fish bought from there isn't considered harming living beings? According to your theory, you should be a lifelong vegetarian! Yet why is it that every time we eat together, you always rush to eat meat?" 0

"Hahaha, I didn't expect you to see through me. To be honest, I just thought carrying all these fish home would be too tiring, so I lightened my load," she said, and with that, she dashed off toward where the motorcycle was parked, playfully hitting me with the bucket as she passed by. 0

I had been talking about cars and parking, but in reality, neither Yuan Yun nor I had a driver's license or knew how to drive. The "car" we referred to was actually a motorcycle. 0

My name is Xin Yu, and I am a professional writer. I make a living by writing novels for various magazines and occasionally publish a book or two. Despite this, I hesitate to call myself an author; I prefer to think of myself as a writer. A year ago, I moved from S City to the tranquil town of Y to focus on my writing. The beautiful yet slightly headstrong girl beside me is named Yuan Yun. She is a doctor in this small town, and we met by chance. She loves reading mystery novels, while I enjoy writing them. This shared passion brought us closer together, evolving into a delicate relationship that straddles the line between friendship and romance, leaning more toward the latter. 0

I hung the tackle box and the bucket on either side of the motorcycle's rear seat before climbing on and signaling for Yuan Yun to join me. She carefully mounted the back seat, making sure not to bump into the tackle box or bucket, then wrapped her arms around my waist. 0

I thought that even if I eventually got a driver's license and a car, I would still choose to ride the motorcycle when going out with Yuan Yun, because I loved the feeling of her hugging me from behind. Especially when her soft curves pressed against my back, I couldn't help but feel grateful for Daimler (note: Daimler, the German inventor of the motorcycle). 0

I revved the throttle a few times, and the motorcycle roared to life with a couple of deep growls before spewing out some black smoke. Then it shot off down the dirt road like an arrow released from a bow. 0

With her arms wrapped around my waist and her face resting against my shoulder, Yuan Yun began humming a tune softly. As I listened to the melody drifting in and out on the wind and felt her gentle touch against my back, my mind started to wander. 0

Suddenly, two dull thuds came from beneath us, interrupting my thoughts. Black smoke billowed from the exhaust pipe, and then the motorcycle came to a halt. 0

"What’s going on? Why did it stall now?" Yuan Yun released her grip and jumped off the motorcycle. I kicked at the throttle several times with no response; it remained stubbornly silent. 0

"It looks like we have no choice but to push it," I said with a shrug after trying unsuccessfully again. 0

"Hmph! Nothing ever goes right when I'm out with you," Yuan Yun pouted angrily and strode ahead. 0

"Wait for me!" I shouted as I struggled to push the heavy motorcycle, trying to catch up. 0

We walked like this for about ten minutes, and I wasn't sure if Yuan Yun was tired or if my speed had increased, but I finally caught up with her and walked alongside. "Sorry about that. I filled up the tank before leaving, worried that I might run out of gas on the way, but I didn't expect the bike to break down." 0

"Do you know how far we are from Y Town?" Yuan Yun still wore a dark expression, but at least she was willing to talk to me now. 0

"Well, let me think..." I calculated in my mind. The fishing spot we were heading to was about an hour's drive from Y Town, roughly sixty kilometers. We had been riding for about ten minutes, so there should be around fifty kilometers left. After considering this, I replied, "It's less than fifty kilometers." 0

Upon hearing my answer, Yuan Yun's face darkened even more. It was then that I noticed the sky had become overcast without me realizing it, as if mirroring Yuan Yun's current mood. 0

"Do you know how long it will take to cover fifty kilometers?" 0

"I'm not too sure, maybe two or three hours?" I said, propping the motorcycle with one hand while scratching my head with the other. 0

"Hmph!" Yuan Yun let out a huff and fell silent again. Not daring to break the silence, I quietly walked beside her. 0
