Old Wang always appeared to be a kind and amiable person, his face radiating a gentle smile.
"Come in and have a seat," Old Wang warmly invited.
Old Lady Wang approached with a loving expression, taking Su Xue's hand and scrutinizing her closely.
"My granddaughter is truly beautiful; let Grandma have a good look at you." The smile in Old Lady Wang's eyes was filled with concern and joy, an emotion that was genuine and heartfelt.
Although the Wang family had looked down on Su Qin, over the past twenty years, they still had no grandchildren. With only Su Xue as their sole granddaughter, it was impossible for the Wang family not to value her. After all, the blood of the Wang family flowed through her veins.
Su Xue felt a bit awkward, but being a simple person, she sensed that these two elderly figures, though strangers to her, looked at her with warmth and affection. It was the kind of indulgence that grandparents show their grandchildren, entirely sincere and not pretentious.
Su Xue's lips moved as if she wanted to call out "Grandma," but ultimately, the words caught in her throat, making it difficult to speak.
In the luxurious hall of the Wang Family Mansion, Old Lady Wang held onto Su Xue's hand tightly and refused to let go. After sitting on the sofa, she began asking about Su Xue's life in the United States. Su Xue softly shared a few details.
"You are truly my good granddaughter; Grandma is proud of you," the old lady said with a smile. Indeed, Su Xue was exceptional, embodying all the qualities of an elegant lady from a prestigious family—beautiful looks, modest demeanor, and a degree from a prestigious university.
Su Xue felt a bit shy under the praise.
Seeing her mother-in-law showering such affection on her daughter made Su Qin feel somewhat uneasy. Perhaps it was time to let go of some things; all that mattered was her daughter's future happiness.
Meanwhile, Xu Hongli, the overweight woman beside them, still wore a smile on her chubby face, but her eyes had turned cold and harsh.
If there was one regret Xu Hongli had now, it was not having any children of her own. If she had kids, the Wang family wouldn't have called Su Xue back home. However, there was nothing she could do; it seemed unlikely she would ever have children. But since the Wang family needed an heir, Xu Hongli initially resisted letting Su Xue return. Eventually, she compromised; Su Xue could come back but must acknowledge her as mother.
"Mom, Xiaoxue will be living here from now on; we can see each other every day. Let's not waste time on pleasantries; we should discuss serious matters," Xu Hongli said.
"Right! I almost forgot about business in my excitement," Old Lady Wang chuckled.
Su Qin frowned slightly upon hearing Xu Hongli affectionately call her daughter by her nickname; it left her feeling displeased.
"Well then, since we're talking business, let's get down to it. Old man, it seems you've forgotten our agreement from last time in the United States," Su Qin stated directly.
Old Wang appeared slightly embarrassed but quickly regained his composure.
"Su Qin, there are some things I hope you can understand. We want Xue Er to come home so she can take on the role of the young lady of our family and eventually inherit our family's assets. If we proceed according to your conditions, then our family will just be an empty shell; bringing Xue Er back would lose its significance," Old Wang said helplessly.
"I understand your point, old man. However, even if this daughter divorces Wang Jiansong, taking half of his assets isn't unreasonable. Does your family really believe that losing half of your wealth would lead to your downfall?" Su Qin replied calmly.
"Half of the assets? Ha ha, Su Qin, it seems you don't understand the Wang family at all," Xu Hongli suddenly laughed.
Su Qin's expression darkened as she glared coldly at Xu Hongli. Just seeing this woman made her furious.
Xu Hongli, unfazed by Su Qin's demeanor, continued, "If it weren't for me, the Wang family would have ceased to exist long ago. Let me tell you, everything about the Wang family belongs to me. If you want me to divorce Wang Jiansong, I have no objections. As long as the Wang family agrees, I'll sign the divorce papers immediately."
Hearing this, Su Qin felt as if she had been struck by lightning and turned to look at the old master of the Wang family. He could only nod helplessly, confirming that Xu Hongli was not lying. It wasn't that Xu Hongli didn't want to divorce Wang Jiansong; it was that the Wang family members were unwilling.
"This... how is this possible? If everything belonging to the Wang family is hers, then they might as well change their surname to Xu," Su Qin said in a low voice.
"I don't mind at all," Xu Hongli replied with a smile.
Old Wang's face had turned an ugly shade of black as he glared at Su Qin, blaming her for speaking out of turn.
Su Qin didn't care; she had no ties to the Wang family anymore and naturally didn't need to worry about their expressions.
"Since that's the case, there's nothing more for us to discuss," Su Qin said coldly as she stood up.
"Su Qin, you're still as impulsive as you were back then. I know you're doing well in the United States and have your own career, but there's something I forgot to tell you: your Cosmetics Company actually has shares owned by my Xu family. I can help you become a director or bring you down just as easily."
"As for your husband in the United States, he's a friend of our Xu family. By the way, he visited Beijing last month and was hosted by my brother. According to my brother, he seems to have women all over the world, including one here in Beijing. If you want to know where that woman is, I can tell you."
Xu Hongli spoke with a smile in her voice, each word cutting into Su Qin's heart like a knife.
How could Su Qin not know about her husband in the United States? She simply chose not to care; after all, their marriage was already a mere formality. However, if this were publicly exposed, it wouldn't be anger she felt but embarrassment.
When a woman puts a man in such a position, he goes mad. When a man seeks out another woman outside of his marriage, a woman can also go mad. Fortunately for Su Qin, she didn't lose her composure; instead, her body trembled slightly as she looked at Xu Hongli with eyes filled with chilling intent.
"You don't need to look at me like that. You're an intelligent person. Let Xiaoxue return to the Wang family; it won't harm her at all. Once she returns, she'll be the unique young lady of the Wang family and will inherit its vast estate. I have no children and will treat her like my own daughter," Xu Hongli said with a smile.
Though these words sounded sincere, they fell on Su Qin's ears like thorns.
"Do you think I would believe what you're saying?" Su Qin scoffed coldly.
"As long as Xiaoxue agrees to return to the Wang family as their young lady, I can immediately draft a contract transferring all of the Wang family's assets into her name," Xu Hongli stated.
This took Su Qin by surprise; however, knowing Xu Hongli well enough made her skeptical. This woman was definitely not someone who would easily hand over such vast wealth. Even if she claimed she would treat Su Xue like her own daughter, everyone knew that Su Xue was not truly her child.
"If you don't believe me, you can take a look at the document first. If there's anything you're not satisfied with in it, you don't have to sign," Xu Hongli continued with a beaming smile that seemed impossibly sincere.
"Is what you're saying true?" Su Qin was filled with doubts; despite her skepticism, she didn't know how to express it. With Xu Hongli having said so much already, it seemed she was genuinely sincere. Once they signed a legally binding document, there would be no turning back for Xu Hongli later on.
In recent years, Su Qin had not been idle in the United States; she had obtained a law degree through self-study, which gave her the confidence to handle legal matters with ease. Xu Hongli's attempts to manipulate legal documents could not escape her keen eyes.
However, she truly could not understand why Xu Hongli would go to such lengths. Did she really willingly want Xue Er to become the heir of the Wang family?
"Of course it's true," Xu Hongli said, her chubby face crinkling into a smile.
