Li Shan acted quickly and replied to me on the third day. At first, she hesitated, stammering and unwilling to say much. I told her directly that I was mentally prepared and that she could just speak her mind.
Li Shan took out two photos. One showed Ma Yuqiang dining with a woman at a hotel. The woman appeared to be in her fifties, with a wealthy demeanor. Li Shan informed me that her name was Yu Fengjuan, a rich woman whose husband was the CEO of a local company named Li Hao. The other photo captured Ma Yuqiang and Yu Fengjuan entering the back building of our community, one after the other.
“Tian Tian, don’t be angry. That jerk probably rented a place in your community to have an affair,” Li Shan said, pointing at the photos, visibly upset. I recalled the inexplicable transfer on Alipay and could now confirm that they had indeed rented a house. Ma Yuqiang was quite bold; did he really think the most dangerous place was the safest?
I told Li Shan that the bait had been set, and we were just waiting for Ma Yuqiang to take it. I also asked her to investigate more about the woman named Yu Fengjuan.
That evening, when Ma Yuqiang returned home, his face was filled with excitement. “Wife, I have a big client who is willing to lend us money for buying a house. We can pay her back later when we sell it, just with a bit of interest.”
I pretended not to understand. “What house are you talking about?”
Ma Yuqiang grew anxious. “The one belonging to Li Shan’s brother! We buy it now, and in two years when the prices go up, we sell it. I’ve calculated it; we can make at least ten million.”
I scoffed. “There’s no way it’s that easy. Would she really lend you that much money? Isn’t she trying to scam you?”
Ma Yuqiang waved his hands repeatedly. “No way! I know this person well; she’s an older sister who trusts me completely and said she’s willing to lend me.”
I pretended to be surprised and happy. "Really? That's great! Let me quickly ask Li Shan if the house has been sold."
In front of Ma Yuqiang, I called Li Shan. "Li Shan, has your brother's house been sold?"
Li Shan sounded casual on the phone. "Well, my brother's friend is negotiating. It should be settled in the next couple of days."
Upon hearing this, Ma Yuqiang immediately panicked and gestured to me. "Quick, tell Li Shan that we want her to help us out."
I nodded. "Li Shan, Zhi Xuan and I are interested in buying that house. Can you talk to your brother about it?"
Li Shan hesitated for a moment. "If you want to buy it, of course I can ask him, but the total price isn't low. Have you two discussed it?"
Ma Yuqiang quickly interjected, "We've discussed it and we definitely want it. Since you and Ran Ran are such good friends, could you ask him to lower the price a bit?"
Li Shan laughed. "No problem! Ran Ran is my best sister; I'll have my brother reduce it by three hundred thousand."
Ma Yuqiang signaled me with his lips to ask Li Shan for an even lower price. I pretended to be in a difficult position. "Li Shan, we're a bit tight on cash and still need to borrow money from everywhere. Can you lower it a bit more?"
Li Shan readily agreed. "Alright, I'll make it five hundred thousand less; this is on me."
After hanging up, I cautiously asked Ma Yuqiang, "How much are we planning to borrow for the down payment?"
Unexpectedly, Ma Yuqiang smiled mysteriously and said, "Buy it outright; that way, it will be easier to sell later."
Yu Fengjuan was indeed generous towards Ma Yuqiang. A nine-million-dollar house, and she decided to buy it just like that?
I deliberately pouted and asked, "This time when buying the house, it won't be like last time, where only your parents' names are on the deed and not mine, right?"
Ma Yuqiang chuckled awkwardly, "No, no, we’ll put them all on there."
I shot him a sidelong glance and asked what he meant by "all."
