Ma Yuqiang said sincerely, "Ran Ran, I'm doing this for our own good. If we put my parents' names on it, in case they urgently need money, they will have to help figure out a way to pay it back."
I nodded, "That makes sense. Let's add my parents' names too, so they can contribute a bit."
Ma Yuqiang's expression changed, "No way."
I smirked and asked why not.
"You have a younger brother. What if he comes to claim the house?" Ma Yuqiang blurted out.
I almost retorted but held back. After all, my goal wasn't to argue with him. It was just that the current situation was beyond my expectations; I didn't realize that woman was so willing to give up so much for Ma Yuqiang.
Ma Yuqiang said he wanted to check out the house. Li Shan led us to the property. Standing on the spacious balcony, I saw Ma Yuqiang's face transform with excitement.
After viewing the house, Ma Yuqiang mentioned he had something to take care of and left first. That evening, as soon as he walked in, he pulled out a card and flaunted it in front of me.
"Wife, there are two million in this card. Let's go find Li Shan and pay a deposit to sign the contract. Once we sign the contract, I'll feel secure."
I worriedly asked what would happen if we signed the contract but the money didn't come through.
Ma Yuqiang patted his chest and assured me that money would definitely not be an issue; it would definitely arrive within a month at most. Since the house didn't have a property certificate yet and was considered new, we directly signed a sales contract with Li Shan's brother's company.
As the days passed, Ma Yuqiang's expression grew increasingly anxious. By the end of the month, I urged him to find the money quickly; time was running out.
He looked troubled and said that he might not be able to gather the funds in time. I was taken aback and asked him what we should do now. The contract was serious business, and breaching it would incur penalties.
Ma Yuqiang was in a panic, finally suggesting that I ask Li Shan if we could switch to a loan for the purchase. Li Shan agreed but mentioned that for a second property, a down payment of seventy percent was required, with the remaining thirty percent available for a loan.
I calculated that for an 8.5 million property, the down payment plus taxes would amount to about 6.5 million. We already had 2 million, leaving us short by 4.5 million.
Ma Yuqiang frowned and said he didn’t have that amount either. On the speakerphone, Li Shan asked loudly, “Are you having funding issues?”
I replied quietly, “Yes.”
Li Shan’s voice boomed through my living room: “Oh, if only it were a first home! For a first home, the down payment is only thirty percent, which would be around 3 million.”
Ma Yuqiang's eyes lit up as if he saw a glimmer of hope. He quickly asked Li Shan how to qualify for a first home. Li Shan explained that if there were no properties under the family name or under an individual's name, it could be considered a first home.
After hanging up, Ma Yuqiang muttered to himself, “If there are no properties under my name, how can I make that happen?” After pondering for a while, he came over to discuss with me: “Wife, let’s pretend to get divorced; that way I won’t have any properties under my name.”
I shook my head in shock.
"I'd rather not buy this house than pretend to get a divorce."
Ma Yuqiang coaxed me,
"You can make millions in no time; it's like a pie falling from the sky."
"It's just a fake divorce, not a real one."
"I'm doing this for our little family."
"Don't you understand how I feel?"
I was dizzy from his words and finally reluctantly agreed.
But I insisted that the new house be under my name since it was much more expensive than the old one.
Ma Yuqiang's expression changed repeatedly.
In the end, he managed to persuade me with his words:
"Although the new house is expensive, the mortgage is high. If we can't pay it back, it could be a big problem."
"And you're pregnant; running around for paperwork would be exhausting. I'd feel bad for you."
"It doesn't matter whose name is on the house; it's still ours."
Eventually, I was convinced to agree to the fake divorce, with the old house belonging to me and the new house in his name.
Hearing that a cooling-off period for divorce would be implemented next month, Ma Yuqiang urged me to hurry up with the paperwork to avoid any unexpected issues.
Since it was an amicable divorce with no property disputes, the process went quickly.
