After finally bringing Zhou Wei home and laying him on the bed, I wiped his face gently. Just as I was about to leave, he grabbed my hand and mumbled, "Nian Yin, I miss you so much."
I looked at him coldly, shook off his hand, and went to the kitchen to prepare a cup of honey water for him. When I returned, I heard him calling out Yu Lan's name. One phrase stood out clearly to me. He said, "I didn't mean to fall in love; it's just that Guan Yue looks so much like you..."
I walked over, expressionless, and woke him up. Then I put on a worried face, helped him sit up, and fed him the honey water. He opened his eyes groggily and glanced at me, the disappointment in his eyes unmistakable.
I gently held his hand, my fingers brushing lightly across his forehead as I whispered, "Sleep well; I'll stay with you."
That night, I truly kept vigil in Zhou Wei's room. I moved a chair to sit by the bed, holding his hand while listening to him call out Yu Lan's name in his sleep. Before I knew it, I had fallen asleep too.
The next morning, it was Zhou Wei who woke me up. He looked apologetic as he apologized and even helped massage my shoulders. I smiled and assured him it was fine before heading to wash up and then into the kitchen to prepare breakfast.
To my surprise, he came into the kitchen to help me this time, which caught me off guard. During breakfast, Zhou Wei held my hand and promised he would drink less in the future.
I replied with a smile, "It's okay; drinking with friends is fine. But next time you get drunk, remember to send me your location so I can pick you up."
Zhou Wei looked at me with a complicated expression and took a moment before softly responding.
Since I didn't get a position at the big company, I ended up sending my resume to a small startup instead. To my surprise, they notified me for an interview the very next day. Even more coincidentally, the person interviewing me was Sun Xin, the campus heartthrob from my university who was a year ahead of me.
He was quite famous during his time at school. I heard he started his own business in his sophomore year and opened his own company after graduation. I never expected that the resume I submitted would land me a position at his company.
The person next to him introduced him as the President of the company, President Sun. I pretended not to know him and politely nodded.
Sun Xin seemed to be in a good mood; he walked in smiling, but his first words left me stunned. He said, "How about a monthly salary of six thousand to be my assistant, Guan Yue?"
I was momentarily taken aback. Just as I was about to ask how he knew my name, I noticed my resume beside him and swallowed my question.
In a daze, I agreed to work for Sun Xin. However, I couldn't shake the nagging thought of why Sun Xin would hire someone with no experience right out of college as his assistant.
That night, I told Zhou Wei about it. He was somewhat surprised that I found a job so quickly. I smiled and didn’t say much, only informing him, "If I have to work overtime, I'll let you know in advance. Every evening, I’ll prepare the meals for the next day; you just need to heat them up. Remember to order takeout less often; it's not good for your health."
Zhou Wei paused for a moment before nodding in agreement. After a while, he handed me his phone and said, "Pick one as a welcome gift."
I took the phone, and the screen displayed various bracelets priced around two to three hundred each—not too expensive but not cheap either, especially since Zhou Wei didn’t have a steady income.
As we browsed through the options together, just when I was about to hand the phone back, it suddenly vibrated with a WeChat notification.
Nian Yin: I've changed my schedule; I'll arrive at the airport on the 28th at 3:30 PM. Are you coming?
Zhou Wei quickly snatched back his phone, looking at me nervously. I smiled calmly and asked, "A friend?"
Zhou Wei's gaze flickered slightly as he responded casually, seemingly worried that I might misunderstand. He added, "We were high school classmates, and our relationship is decent. He just returned from studying abroad."
