I paused for a moment and turned to leave.
“Xia Lanlan.”
Li Yunfan called out to me, “Doctor Ma has something to attend to, so I’ll be covering for him temporarily.”
“I’ll come back another day.”
My expression was poor; the hangover and pain left me looking haggard.
“Xia Lanlan, I am a doctor first and foremost.”
Li Yunfan stood up and removed his mask. “Come here, be good.”
He examined me with professionalism, focused and serious.
There was no hint of distraction in his eyes, making me feel ashamed of my own thoughts.
“Does it hurt here?” His fingers pressed gently.
I winced in pain, furrowing my brow, and let out a low groan, “Doctor Li, it hurts…”
Li Yunfan’s ears turned red.
He cleared his throat, released his grip, and averted his gaze.
I quickly pulled my shirt down.
“You need to take medication and cooperate with physical therapy; it’s not a big issue, don’t worry.”
He wrote out a prescription with a pen.
“Avoid staying up late and drinking excessively in the near future; make sure to rest.”
After finishing the prescription, he didn’t hand it to me.
“Wait a moment; I’ll have the nurse get the medication.”
“I can get it myself…”
“First, go for physical therapy.”
He put his mask back on. “The doctor on duty in the therapy room today is male, which makes things a bit inconvenient, so I’ll handle it for you.”
“There’s no need; we’re all doctors; it doesn’t matter…”
"There is a saying."
Li Yunfan unbuttoned his white coat and walked up to me.
"Xia Lanlan, I don't want others to see you."
I was taken aback, momentarily at a loss for words.
He looked at me for a moment and said, "Let's go."
I followed him to the therapy room, feeling a bit uneasy as I lay down after taking off my clothes.
I turned my face away and closed my eyes.
He was very professional.
"Relax, don't be tense; it will be over soon."
Perhaps sensing my nervousness, his voice was low and gentle.
I gradually began to relax.
The combination of the equipment and his techniques alleviated a lot of pain.
As the heat treatment continued, I comfortably fell asleep.
So I didn't know that Li Yunfan stood by the bed watching me for a long time.
In the end, he gently leaned down and kissed me.
When I left the hospital with the medication, several young nurses looked at me with strange expressions.
The nurse who handed me the medicine couldn't help but curiously ask, "Are you Doctor Li's girlfriend?"
I shook my head.
"But Doctor Li never treats female patients like this."
The young nurse looked at me enviously and added, "Besides, he didn't even need to do this himself; he actually gave you therapy..."
The young nurse couldn't help but exclaim, "We were all so jealous just now."
I glanced back.
The empty corridor held no sign of him.
The weight in my heart felt heavy as I smiled at the nurse and stepped into the elevator. He had asked me to come back three more times, but deep down, I knew I wouldn’t return.
The next night, after a grueling shift, I returned to my rental apartment, utterly exhausted. Just then, Ye Zheng called, asking me to come over. I didn’t want to go, but he was drunk and had a temper that could be frightening.
I hesitated for a moment before grabbing my phone and bag and heading out. On the way, Ye Zheng sent me a WeChat message. “Sister, please bring two boxes of Okamoto. Make sure to get the largest size.”
I closed the message expressionlessly, feeling not even a hint of sadness.
When I arrived at the hotel, I carried the items upstairs and knocked on the door. The one who opened it was the girl known as the little fairy, Tian Miaomiao. I handed her the items and turned to leave.
Ye Zheng, visibly intoxicated, suddenly called out to me, “Xia Lanlan, come back here.”
“Ah Zheng, don’t be angry. It’s probably because I’m here that she didn’t come in…” I said coldly, watching her put on an act.
“What do you care? Don’t pretend; you don’t give a damn about how many women are around me,” he retorted as he pulled me into the room.
“Stop pretending to be innocent. What engagement are you waiting for? I want you right now…” He shoved me onto the sofa and tore open my robe, ready to pounce.
