I returned to the cell, and the beauty next door laughed nonchalantly, "Is he your lover? How could he bear to lock you up? Hehe—"
The Seventeenth Prince really is quite the gossip… I ignored him, pondering whether the next meal would be any better.
The one delivering food was Shu Zhan Yan, dressed in dark blue attire that always made him look serious and unsmiling. As for Shu Zhan Yan? He probably hadn’t lived up to his parents' hopes for him in his entire life.
I glared at him, "You can hit me or scold me, but you can't deny me food!"
Shu Zhan Constable coldly replied, "Isn't this food?"
"How can this be food? This is animal feed!" I pushed aside the radishes and cabbages in front of me and began banging on the cell door, shouting, "You liar! You heartless man! Shu Zhan, you turtle!"
The other prisoners looked over with a mix of pity and curiosity, even the Seventeenth Prince seemed to ponder our situation.
Shu Zhan Yan frowned just as I wanted him to, and I escalated my sobbing complaint: "Shu Zhan Yan, when we were together, you called me 'sweetheart' every day and even fed me by mouth. Who would have thought that now that you no longer love me, you would lock me up and not even give me a bite to eat—Shu Zhan Yan, how cruel you are! You heartless man! Cold-hearted!"
I was born with a talent for being unreasonable.
But all I got in return was Shu Zhan Constable's indifference; he took away the plate of radishes and cabbages while I raised my arms calling out "Hey hey!" but he didn’t stop.
That damn man!
The Seventeenth Prince Feng Huai Jin tapped the wooden pillar with his black-feathered fan, bringing me back to my senses: "Miss, if he doesn’t love you, why not throw yourself into my embrace?"
I looked into his peach blossom eyes, and suddenly felt my whole body tense up.
At night, I curled up on a pile of straw, feeling very sleepy yet unable to fall asleep because of hunger. The emptiness in my stomach sharpened my mind, and I suddenly noticed a shadow sneaking into my cell.
The light was too dim for me to see clearly, but a mouse always remembers the scent of the cat that has chased it for so long—it was Shu Zhan Yan.
A warm, fragrant chicken leg was shoved into my hand, and my eyes narrowed with delight as I took a big bite out of it.
“Are you happy now?” the figure asked in the dim light.
“Ha ha—” I chewed on the chicken leg, savoring its deliciousness.
“Alright, you’ll be released tomorrow morning. Don’t cause any trouble, understand?”
It was strange; perhaps it was the night’s ambiance, but there was a hint of affection in his voice.
I kept staring at him while gnawing on the chicken leg. The faint light revealed his long eyelashes, casting shadows beneath his eyes like a fan. His lips appeared gentle, and indeed they were soft, along with a slight protrusion at his neck.
I swallowed hard. How pathetic I was; as long as someone offered me a bit of good food, I would immediately fall for them. Was this love sparked by just a chicken leg?
Suddenly, I felt very happy—eating the chicken leg while looking at the seemingly more handsome Shu Zhan Yan.
Under my gaze, Shu Zhan Constable smiled and said, "What are you looking at? I won't compete with you."
That smile made my heart flutter, and I returned his smile.
But he responded with a single word: "Fool."
I felt quite comfortable as I slept. Shu Zhan Constable had mentioned this morning that he would let me go, and I was daydreaming about which street to feast on when a commotion shattered my dreams.
"Someone is breaking out of prison! Someone is breaking out of prison!"
I quickly turned my head to look at Feng Huai Jin, whose enchanting peach blossom eyes were fixed on me at that moment.
