We live in an old neighborhood with poor sound insulation, and we've known our neighbors for decades. With all the commotion from his mother, I bet the entire building heard it. My dad, furious, threw his phone aside and strode toward the door. Xu Chi didn't even greet my dad; he frowned at me and said, "Lu Xinran, you really are something. Your mother hasn't made any unreasonable demands, so why make such a scene?"
I sat on the sofa, hardly believing my ears. Was this really my fault? Before I could respond, his mother continued, "Lu Xinran, do you not understand your situation? You've been with my son for so many years, and now you're pregnant. If word gets out, who would want you?"
"Why don't you hurry up and cling to my son instead of causing all this trouble? Have you lost your mind?"
I could already hear the neighbors opening their doors to see what was happening. I wanted to close the door, but his mother stood in the doorway with her hands on her hips, deliberately raising her voice.
I felt a surge of anger and couldn't help but point at her nose and shout, "It was clearly you who didn't come to pick us up yesterday! The wedding car and house were all provided by my family; the banquet was also hosted by us. I don't even want the bride price anymore, and now you're asking for a house?
