Desperate Donor 2: Chapter 2

I was left all alone, like a frantic clown, with the wedding dress and the traditional attire for tomorrow laid out on the bed. I looked at the makeup box, where yesterday's health report sat, freshly retrieved. I thought to myself, it’s okay; I’m dying soon anyway. Once I’m gone, everyone will be satisfied. Everything that belonged to me, including the kidney I donated six months ago and my future husband, would all belong to her. 0

My mother had already informed all our relatives and friends that they need not attend; the wedding was canceled. And Luo Ye had also notified the groom's family that the wedding date was postponed. As the bride, I had no say in any of this. It was just like six months ago when Ding Yuanyuan needed dialysis and a kidney transplant due to uremia; the whole family was asked to get tested for compatibility. 0

I had always been the most inconspicuous member of this family, but on the day the compatibility results came back, my mother, stepfather Uncle Ding, and my brother surprisingly did not accompany Ding Yuanyuan at the hospital. Instead, they prepared a lavish dinner for me at home. I had never been treated like that before; it left me somewhat flabbergasted. But not a single person remembered that I was allergic to seafood. 0

Recalling this, I lay on top of the wedding dress. The pain was excruciating, and tears streamed down uncontrollably. I felt like an abandoned puppy curled up on that carefully chosen gown, crying inconsolably. 0

The next day, I packed my things and returned to the small home I shared with Luo Ye. I sent him a message: “Luo Ye, we need to talk.” Soon enough, he replied with a selfie of himself and Ding Yuanyuan. He smiled like a carefree college student, so relaxed. 0

I knew that the photo was sent by Ding Yuanyuan. 0

I called my mom, and when she answered, she spoke to me in a low voice, brushing me off: "Luo Ye is here with Yuan Yuan; she's feeling much better. I need to go bring her some soup." 0

I tossed my phone aside and looked at the little dog whimpering beside me. It jumped onto my lap, sniffed around, and then lay down with its head drooping. 0

I patted its head and said, "Qiu Qiu, Mommy has to take care of some things. She'll come back to get you." 0

On the way to the hospital, Uncle Ding and my mom were peeling apples for Ding Yuanyuan while my brother and Luo Ye played games with her. I forced myself to suppress my discomfort and walked inside. 0

Ding Yuanyuan's expression immediately darkened when she saw me. She grabbed Luo Ye's hand and, with red eyes filled with grievance, said, "Sister, can you let Luo Ye stay with me?" 0

Luo Ye quickly pushed her away: "Miao Miao, I was actually planning to go home to find you." 0

Uncle Ding awkwardly chuckled: "Miao Miao, once Yuan Yuan gets better, our whole family will attend your wedding." 0

Suddenly, Ding Yuanyuan screamed as if she had lost control, clutching her head. My brother hurriedly comforted her: "Yuan Yuan, don't be scared; your brother is here." 0

My mom pushed me out the door: "What are you doing here? Don't you know seeing you will upset her?" 0

I stared into my mom's eyes: "Mom, do you still remember that I'm your biological daughter?" 0

Her gaze flickered for a moment before she coldly pushed me away: "Su Miao, the only reason you can go to school is because of Uncle Ding's money. You need to be grateful." 0

I held onto her hand tightly: "Mom, I can pay Uncle Ding back; can you please..." 0

She didn't let me finish and shut the door on me. I stood there dazed at the doorstep and finally said aloud, "Can you please not treat me like this..." 0

Luo Ye stepped out, a hint of guilt in his eyes. 0
“Miao Miao, there’s really nothing between Yuan Yuan and me. She’s struggling with severe depression.” 0
I looked at the man I had loved for seven years and finally let out a sigh. 0
“Luo Ye, during the summer of our first year in graduate school, Ding Yuanyuan came to our city for an internship. The surveillance at home captured you two together every day.” 0
