I leaned against her shoulder. "Yu Cheng, am I weak? I choose to escape, not wanting to face them." 0

"You're not weak, Su Miao. You can't wake someone who's pretending to sleep, and you can't change your mother's and brother's favoritism. It's better to run away." 0

Pain surged through me again, and my face turned pale as I took out some painkillers. Qiu Qiu lay beside us, quietly sobbing. As Yu Cheng fed me the medicine, her hands trembled. 0

I forced a smile. "Yu Cheng, there's one more thing I need your help with." 0

"Yu Cheng, my mom always says I've spent a lot of Uncle Ding's money on school and living expenses. Over the years, I've saved a bit. Please help me send this five hundred thousand to them." 0

"Yu Cheng, you're my best friend. I feel bad asking you for help right before I die. There’s still one hundred fifty thousand in my card; consider it a gift from me to you." 0

Yu Cheng sighed. "Su Miao, you should keep that money for your treatment." 0

I shook my head. "Yu Cheng, I don't have time left." 0

She fell silent, turning away to wipe her tears. I hugged her from behind. "Yu Cheng, I'm sorry for putting you through this. If you think it's unlucky, I can go far away and die." 0

"Su Miao, are you crazy? I have money; I can pay for your medical expenses. Let's focus on getting you better, okay?" 0

With red eyes, I ruffled her hair. "Yu Cheng, it hurts even to stand now. I want to die beautifully; I don't want chemotherapy or to lose my hair. I don't want to die in that city where they are." 0

Yu Cheng stopped insisting that I see a doctor. 0

That day, she sat on the grassland for a long time, clutching my medical report. I could hear her uncontrollable cries even from inside the Mongolian yurt. She helped me transfer the money from my card to Uncle Ding. My mother rarely called me, but when she did, she asked, "Is Su Miao still throwing a tantrum? She went to see you, right? Tell her we received the money; it’s just enough to treat Yuan Yuan." 0

Yu Cheng couldn't help but scoff, "Auntie, if Su Miao were dying, would you care for her like you do for Ding Yuan Yuan?" My mother's voice suddenly rose in pitch, "Yu Cheng, tell Su Miao not to hold a grudge against Yuan Yuan." Yu Cheng retorted, "Auntie, isn't one of Su Miao's kidneys enough to repay your kindness in raising her?" 0

There was a moment of silence before my mother hung up the phone. I understood all too well; her true affection was reserved for Ding Yuan Yuan. For me, there was only pressure and indifference. Even when I got into a prestigious school, she merely glanced at me, worried it might upset Ding Yuan Yuan. It didn’t matter; I had long grown accustomed to it. 0

Yu Cheng drove me around the grassland, where the grass was lush and green. After stopping the car, we sat at the back of the pickup truck while Qiu Qiu joyfully ran around us. I leaned against Yu Cheng and said, "Yu Cheng, after I die, scatter my ashes here; the grass will grow even thicker next year." 0

Yu Cheng didn’t respond but popped a piece of candy into my mouth. "Let’s not talk about that, okay?" Eventually, she cried again. "I asked the doctor; if your will to live is strong, your condition might progress more slowly... You only donated a kidney six months ago; you’ve been sick for just a few months, right?" 0

I patted her shoulder gently. "Yu Cheng, I really don’t have the strength anymore." 0

Yu Cheng held me tightly, and I suddenly recalled something from my childhood. 0
"Yu Cheng, do you remember? After my father passed away, many people bullied me, saying I was a child without a dad. You were the only one who protected me." 0
Yu Cheng choked up, tears falling onto my forehead as I continued, 0
"In the past, you protected me. Before I die, I want to give you a gift. I've made you the beneficiary of my critical illness insurance. You have to live well." 0
Yu Cheng broke down, "Su Miao, you even thought about what happens after death?" 0
