"Ah, is there something?" I stammered.
Luo Yuanshan, with his hands in his pockets, looked at me and said, "There is."
"Huh?"
He ignored me and turned to leave, leaving me bewildered as I followed him.
When we reached the parking lot, he gestured for me to get in the car. It turned out he was just giving me a ride.
The journey was silent for a long time until he asked, "Did you buy the ticket?"
"Yes."
"When are you leaving?"
"Late tonight, around one."
"Huh?" He seemed a bit surprised.
"I bought a train ticket; I'll just sleep and I'll be there," I explained. "You haven't taken a train before, have you?"
Luo Yuanshan shot me a blank look. "What do you think?"
"Oh."
"Be careful on the road."
"Okay."
"Do you have a ride tonight? If not, I can take you."
I glanced at him, my heart stirred for a moment, but then I thought it might just be politeness.
"No need to trouble you; I'll take a taxi."
"Alright then."
"I want to ask you a question." As soon as I said it, I regretted it; it wasn't like I was quitting or anything! Why was I being so dramatic?
"Go ahead," he said.
"Never mind."
He smiled, a grin that sent shivers down my spine, and casually asked, "So, what are you doing for the New Year?"
"Spending time with family, visiting relatives and friends—nothing special."
"Are you visiting relatives too?"
"Why wouldn't I?" I replied. He looked at me with a smile, "Do you think I'm above all that?"
I chuckled, "Who said you don't look like an ordinary person most of the time?"
"Really?" he responded with a laugh, "Seems like you have a low opinion of me."
Mentioning opinions snapped me back to reality: "No, you're great."
He suddenly used formal language, shaking his head in amusement and fell silent.
If unrequited love is a one-man show, then the appearance of a rival is utterly devastating.
That night, around eleven o'clock, I dragged my suitcase out into the bustling streets.
The Spring Festival Travel Rush was in full swing; no matter how many grievances we had endured outside, at this moment, we all felt happiness.
While buying snacks at a convenience store, my phone rang.
Seeing the caller ID made my breath hitch.
"Hello."
"Where are you?" he asked straightforwardly.
"At the supermarket."
"Which one?"
"At the entrance of the community."
"I'm waiting for you at the bus stop; come out."
Before I could respond, he hung up, leaving me in a daze.
I quickly grabbed my snacks and hurried outside with my suitcase.
Spotting his car, I slowed my pace and adjusted my breathing.
I tapped on the window, and he got out to help me with my luggage.
After getting into the car, I said, "Thank you."
He was silent for a moment before replying, "You're welcome."
"Aren't you busy tonight?"
"When the holidays come, I have plenty of free time; there's not much to do."
"Oh." I looked at his profile, wondering which door God had closed for him.
"You don't have to be so polite all the time; we’re acquaintances now, right?"
"Sure." My heart soared; he thought we were acquaintances!
When you're in love, every little thing the other person does is magnified a thousand times.
Love is blind; in my eyes, he was nearly perfect.
As we got closer to the train station, the number of pedestrians and vehicles increased.
We were forced to park on the street across from the train station.
After getting out of the car, he helped me pull my suitcase.
I had packed quite a bit, and it was a bit heavy to carry. As we approached the overpass, I suggested we switch off carrying it.
He looked helpless, one hand holding the suitcase and the other tugging at my sleeve as we navigated through the crowd.
In that moment, I felt as if I were in a dream; he was all I could see.
Once we reached the train station, he let go of my sleeve and said, "Alright, go on in quickly. Be careful on your way."
I lowered my head, burying my face in my coat collar. I didn’t want to say goodbye but felt too timid not to.
After standing there for a moment, he bent down to look at me and said, "Hi, what are you thinking about? Hurry up and get in line; don’t miss your train."
I nodded vigorously.
This time, I didn’t say goodbye.
