Zhou Chenyu's presence was overwhelming, yet he never raised his voice. Instead, he asked me with a tone that could crush anyone, “Whose child is it, really?” 0

“It’s not yours, so why do you care?” I shot back. 0

“Cheng Yue, you’re twenty-six now; you’re not a child anymore.” 0

Zhou Chenyu began his lecture again. “You need to take responsibility for yourself and for the little life inside you. I’ll ask you one more time: whose child is it?” 0

My temper flared up instantly. “How am I not responsible? What have I done that’s irresponsible?” 0

“You're a lawyer; can’t you be more careful with your words? Do you want me to sue you for defamation?” 0

Zhou Chenyu tilted his head, his gaze heavy upon me. 0

Suddenly, my bravado diminished. 0

“Regardless, I will take responsibility for this child,” I asserted. 0

“How will you take responsibility?” he asked coldly. “As a single mother? Do you really think a child born into an incomplete family will be happy?” 0

I paused, taken aback. He seemed to have a point. 0

I needed to talk to Yin Cheng and make sure she considered this carefully. But given the way things were going with her and Li Xiang, it seemed unlikely the child would grow up in a single-parent household. 0

As for Zhou Chenyu… 0

“What does this have to do with you? Aren’t you overstepping your bounds?” 0

Zhou Chenyu fell silent for a moment before nodding slightly. “True, I shouldn’t be involved.” 0

He leaned back in the chair, closed his eyes, and looked very tired. 0

Two years had passed, yet his face remained unchanged, still so handsome. If it weren't for that face, I wouldn't have agreed to the blind date so quickly. As a result of that face, I had been under his control for two years. 0

I didn't have the habit of eating breakfast, but he insisted that I wake up every day at seven to eat. I had just graduated with my master's degree and was looking for a job; not only did he give me money, but he also arranged a job for me. Wasn't that just like my parents? 0

That job required only two or three hours of work each day, leaving me to stare into space for the rest of the time. I could already envision how I would spend the next few decades. I said I didn't like it, but he insisted that I do it. It was because of the boredom from that job that I eventually resigned after two years. 0

When Zhou Chenyu scolded me, I brought up breaking up. He refused to agree. I simply "cut" him off; what right did he have to disagree? After a series of my antics, he finally agreed and went out of town. 0

Looking back now, he hadn't changed at all in those two years; he still treated me like a child. But now we had no relationship whatsoever. 0

I leaned in gently. 0

Zhou Chenyu suddenly opened his eyes, his gaze sharp like an eagle's. 0

"What are you doing?" he asked in a hoarse voice. 0

"Zhou Chenyu, how about this? Let's have the baby; you can raise him. That way, he'll have a complete family." 0

I was intentionally trying to provoke him. I couldn't believe he wouldn't get angry over this. In the end, he just stared at me without saying a word. That was a skill in itself, wasn't it? I felt quite frustrated and returned to my seat. 0

The voice of Zhou Chenyu rang in my ears: 0
"Have you thought it through?" 0
"What do you mean?" 0
"Let me be the child's father." 0
"What does he mean by that?" 0

I repeated Zhou Chenyu's words verbatim to my strategist, Yin Cheng. 0

Yin Cheng stroked his chin, squinting his eyes as he pondered for a long time before saying, 0
"Zhou Chenyu is really in love with you; he's even willing to be an unexpected father." 0
"Right?" I slapped my thigh, 0
"I knew it! That dog still has feelings for me." 0

Yin Cheng leaned in closer to examine me, 0
"So what are your thoughts on this?" 0
I straightened my face, 0
"What do you want me to think?" 0
He pointed at my mouth, 0
"Stop smiling; your lips are practically reaching your ears." 0

Alright, I admit it—I was indeed feeling quite pleased inside. But... 0

"He hasn't changed at all; he still loves to meddle in my life. If I get back together with him, wouldn't that make our previous breakup pointless?" 0
