Yin Cheng nodded slightly.
"That makes sense."
She sighed,
"Our lives, huh? You find someone from a wealthy family, and I find someone with a grandson.
Let me tell you, if you end up with someone like Li Xiang, it would be even worse."
I agreed with that; I would never go near someone like Li Xiang again.
"But your belly is empty. How are you going to explain this to Zhou Chenyu in a few months?"
Yin Cheng stared at my stomach and asked.
"Why do I need to explain anything to him?"
"Didn’t you brag before about being pregnant?"
What if Zhou Chenyu found out I wasn't actually pregnant? Would he laugh in my face?
No way!
"I need to think of a way to get pregnant quickly."
Just then, my mom called, asking me to come home for dinner.
It turned out to be a trap.
I stood in the middle of the living room while my parents sat on the sofa, their eyes fixed on me like I was a criminal.
"Tell us, whose child is in your belly?"
I was taken aback.
"How did you know?"
Then it hit me.
Who else could it be?
Li Xiang!
That jerk!
I gritted my teeth and closed my eyes.
"I'm not pregnant at all; don't believe everything you hear."
"Is the child really not Chen Yu's?"
My mom asked hopefully.
“Did you really tell them about Zhou Chenyu?”
That son of a gun!
“Mom, it doesn’t matter if it’s Zhou Chenyu’s or not; there’s no way he and I could ever be together.”
My dad slammed his thigh.
“See? The truth is coming out! Now tell me, whose is it?”
In that case, Li Xiang, don’t blame me for being rude.
“To be honest, the child is Li Xiang’s.”
That was the truth.
Then my parents set up a trap for Li Xiang as well.
When Li Xiang arrived, my parents gave him a good beating, leaving him bruised and battered.
Then we were both kicked out of the house.
My mom pointed at us and said,
“Keep acting like this; let’s see how you explain it to Yin Cheng!”
Li Xiang, with a sorrowful face, asked me,
“What did you say to Uncle and Aunt?”
“I told them the child is yours.”
“What?”
Li Xiang covered his swollen mouth and exclaimed,
“Cheng Yue, I have no grudge against you; why are you doing this to me?”
“Who told you to spout nonsense in front of my parents?”
He pointed at me and said,
“Fine, just wait!”
Watching Li Xiang storm off in anger, I suddenly felt an ominous premonition.
All morning, my right eyelid had been twitching, and sure enough, by noon, trouble arose.
The supervisor called me into the office and threw a document at me.
The edge of the paper was sharp enough to cut a small gash in the corner of my eye.
“Take a look at what you’ve created here!”
I frowned and picked up the document.
It was the plan I had created.
This wasn’t the first time he had criticized my work like this.
Was it really that bad?
He was clearly targeting me.
I didn’t want to continue!
“Fine, I’ll go back and revise it.”
I took the proposal back to my desk and worked until eleven at night before leaving.
The next morning, Yin Cheng came to find me, and I brought up the issue.
“Then just quit. Your family doesn’t need the money; why put up with this?”
“It’s not about the money. I need to prove myself, show him what I’m capable of. If I just walk away, wouldn’t that be too humiliating?”
That wasn’t my style; I wasn’t someone who would just swallow my pride.
“You’re just asking for trouble. Zhou Chenyu had arranged a great job for you before; so many people wanted it! And you turned it down? You really don’t know how to appreciate what you have,” Yin Cheng remarked.
I took a bite of my bun and didn’t respond.
“By the way, Li Xiang told me that you framed him in front of your uncle and aunt.”
Yin Cheng cleared her throat, “He also said he wants to get back at you.”
“He deserves it; who told him to run his mouth?”
I spoke with a mouthful of bun, making my words a bit unclear, “What does he plan to do for revenge?”
Yin Cheng shook her head, “Not sure.”
