How does Zhou Chenyu manage to endure me? He's truly remarkable.
I told Yin Cheng, "I've finished the book, but I absolutely refuse to admit that I'm as annoying as the female lead."
"Well, she grew as a person later on."
"Then I can grow too," I said confidently. "I'm going to win Zhou Chenyu back right now."
Yin Cheng asked, "...Are you serious?"
I nodded.
Absolutely serious, more so than pearls.
I've always liked Zhou Chenyu... To be precise, I've never really let him go.
But it's also true that I hate how he constantly keeps tabs on me, like having an extra dad around.
After finishing the book, I found myself thinking that having an extra dad might not be so bad after all.
If I acted a little spoiled, Zhou Chenyu wouldn't know how to handle me.
Taking advantage of the weekend, I headed straight to where Zhou Chenyu was on a business trip.
I got the information about the hotel he was staying at from that scoundrel Li Xiang and booked a room for myself for the day.
I had my own plans.
That evening, I finally saw Zhou Chenyu.
He looked visibly surprised when he saw me.
"What are you doing here?"
"I... just happened to be passing by."
"Just you? What floor are you on?" Zhou Chenyu asked.
He had never allowed me to stay in a hotel alone before, ever since he saw a news report about a woman who got into trouble while staying alone at a hotel.
"Just me."
Zhou Chenyu silently looked at me for a moment. "When are you going back?"
"Not sure."
"Not sure?"
"Why are you asking so much?" I stomped my foot, softening my voice to act cute. "Well, since I'm here, of course I can only go back after finishing what I came for."
Zhou Chenyu indeed stopped asking questions.
He raised his hand to check the time and then asked me, "Have you eaten?"
I shook my head.
He took me out to eat.
After we finished eating and returned, I managed to get his room number. I went back to my room, took a fragrant shower, put on some sexy pajamas, and threw on a wool coat before heading to find Zhou Chenyu.
He had just finished showering as well, wearing a white fluffy bathrobe.
"What's up?"
"Zhou Chenyu, I'm scared." I said in a high-pitched voice.
He looked at me and let me in.
Mission accomplished!
I started taking off my clothes one by one and just as I placed them on the sofa, I looked up to meet Zhou Chenyu's complex gaze. My heart inexplicably raced.
"What's wrong?"
"You sleep on the bed," he said as he picked up the phone. "I'll order another blanket."
Is he pretending not to understand?
A person as sharp as you wouldn’t fail to notice, would you?
I reached out to stop him. “Enough.”
He stared at me, as if trying to uncover something.
I wrapped my arms around his neck. “Zhou Chenyu, have you thought about me these past two years?”
“Let go,” he said softly.
I deliberately puffed out my chest and rubbed against him. “I miss you.”
“Cheng Yue…” He sighed, “Stop it.”
“I’m not causing trouble.”
“Then what are you doing?”
“Can’t you tell?” I pulled down the strap of my nightgown.
“What about now? Do I need to take it all off for you to understand?”
He swallowed hard. “So?”
How dull.
I sat on the edge of the bed and bounced a couple of times for effect.
“You clearly still like me, and I like you too. Why are you being so coy?”
“What if I like you? You don’t like the way I show it.”
I looked up at him, my eyes pleading. “Can’t you just let me be?”
“No, if you were someone else, it wouldn’t matter,” he said firmly.
I sighed inwardly. “I just want to live life the way I like.”
“I’m not stopping you from doing what you enjoy,” Zhou Chenyu said as he sat beside me. “It’s just that I’m six years older than you and have a deeper understanding of this world.”
Though I didn’t want to admit it, he was right. The job he arranged for me was indeed much better than what I had now.
