My heart tightened, and I froze, forcing a smile. "Good morning, Mr. Lu?"
I expected him to sneer at me, but instead, he reached out and pulled me tightly into his embrace.
"Be good, don’t make a fuss. Just stay with me a little longer," his voice was husky.
I couldn't help but wonder if he was starting to see me as his white moonlight.
Before long, Qi Chen's arm stiffened, and he released me.
We stared at each other in silence.
Silence was the theme of the night for Kang Qiao.
The doorbell rang, and Qi Chen jumped out of bed, rushing barefoot to answer it.
Watching his disheveled figure, I couldn't help but laugh.
I never thought there would come a day when Qi Chen would experience such social embarrassment.
It was the moving company that had come as scheduled by Qi Chen earlier that morning.
I settled on the couch with a pillow in my arms, watching him and the burly men move boxes.
He didn’t even glance my way.
As he lifted the last box, I grabbed his arm.
"Brother, is it really necessary to move just to avoid me?"
Qi Chen looked at me with confusion. "What are you thinking? My lease is up."
"That doesn’t mean you have to rush like this."
"The lease is up," he said seriously.
Suddenly, I recalled how bare his place was; it really didn’t match his preferred style of decor.
"Ah, I see…"
"I would love to avoid you," Qi Chen retorted with a sharp tongue. "But can I really escape?"
His expression clearly read "haunting presence."
Thinking about the relationship between the two of them and the white moonlight, I shook my head.
"You've worked hard, Brother."
"Brother, where are we moving to? Given our situation right now... how about considering a shared rental?"
"Let’s see about this... Why didn’t you say anything earlier? It all feels so sudden..."
I hurriedly followed behind him, helping to move things.
He suddenly stopped: "Hu Keyan, stop calling me Brother."
"What’s wrong, Brother?"
"…I feel like you’re about to swear brotherhood with me. Are you this familiar with everyone?"
There was a subtle annoyance in his tone.
"Ah, well... it's just a habit from my hometown in Northeast China. So, what do you want me to call you?" I asked eagerly.
Qi Chen's ears turned red as he tossed out, "You figure it out." Then he turned and walked away.
I quickly caught up, trying various titles, but none seemed to satisfy him.
A lightbulb moment hit me: "You don’t want me to call you 'Dad,' do you? I’m a decent person; that’s not happening."
Qi Chen stumbled slightly, nearly losing his balance.
"Summer! Sky! Song!" he glared at me furiously.
I shrank back my neck: "If you don’t want it, then don’t be so fierce; I won’t call you that..."
He set down the box and pointed at the truck: "Get lost."
"Alright then."
I have to admit, Qi Chen is someone you can rely on when it matters.
His new place is only a 15-minute drive from Z University, in a high-end community with two bedrooms and a living room, a pink and white princess room.
Clearly, this was prepared for me.
Touched beyond words.
The landlord is Professor Liu from the Z University School of Arts, who is leaving the city due to a job transfer and rented the apartment to Qi Chen.
She smiled meaningfully and said, "Xiao Sheng counts as half a student of mine. He has a solitary nature, but he's not a bad person. You two should get along well; if he bullies you, just let me know."
I quickly explained, "We're not in that kind of relationship..."
Qi Chen calmly pulled my hand away. "That's enough, Professor Liu. You don't need to worry about us. We're a bit busy here; do you have anything else to discuss?"
Professor Liu suddenly realized, "I just remembered I have a dinner appointment with a colleague. I'll take my leave; you all carry on."
Once she left, I noticed that Qi Chen hadn't clarified our relationship.
Turning to look at him, I found him calmly unpacking his luggage and directing me to help.
"What are you standing there for? Hurry up and get to work!"
I sheepishly touched my nose, feeling like I had overthought things. As I turned around, I missed the slight curve of his lips and the flush in his ears.
