"Forget it, forget it. Why chase after her? What if someone else comes in later?" The Security Team Leader said impatiently. "Look at that girl's country bumpkin appearance; she won't cause any trouble. We'll deal with it when she comes out."
The Gatekeeper nodded with a smile.
At this time, Song Pearl had already arrived at the office building area. She climbed the stairs to the first-floor lobby, which was spacious and quiet. Perhaps due to the cold air, there was no one at the Service Desk. In the center of the lobby were several mechanical models, likely products of the company. Against the wall were sofas and coffee tables, arranged tastefully and orderly.
Song Pearl felt a bit nervous; every time she entered an unfamiliar place, her heart would involuntarily tighten. She couldn't help but despise this habit of hers.
Taking a couple of deep breaths, she finally spotted the location of the elevator. The advertisement screen at the elevator entrance was looping news about Hongqing Group.
"I wonder if anyone will be there?" Song Pearl pressed the elevator button anxiously, and when the doors opened, there was no one inside.
Song Pearl suddenly chuckled at herself for being so tense; just a moment ago, the elevator display showed 1—how could there be anyone in it?
Earlier, the Gatekeeper mentioned that the Boss's office was on the seventh floor. Song Pearl pressed the button for seven, and the elevator ascended.
As it went up and down, she thought to herself that the seventh floor was indeed a good floor. Song Pearl silently complained about the floors while her heart raced; she wondered if she would be able to find someone who could help her. The nameplate should have their position written on it, right?
While she was lost in thought, the elevator stopped, and the doors opened. A tall man in a clean-cut business suit stepped into the elevator. He paused for a moment upon seeing Song Pearl and slightly furrowed his brow.
As Song Pearl exited the elevator, she glanced at him and felt that he exuded an aura that suggested he was not someone to approach casually. His facial features were sharp, his skin not particularly fair, with thick black eyebrows and narrow eyes that held a glint of coldness.
"Who is this person?" Song Pearl wondered as she left the elevator and walked toward the floor's entrance. Looking up, she saw a large number 5 above her head and couldn't help but puff out her cheeks in frustration. "Fifth floor! She got off at just five floors! It's all that person's fault!"
Song Pearl exhaled; directly across from her was the staircase. It was only two stories high—she might as well take the stairs.
She hurriedly ran up the stairs; although it was dark in the stairwell, her footsteps triggered motion-sensor lights that illuminated her path. She sprinted up two flights of stairs in one breath and emerged from the corridor slightly out of breath.
Just as she intended to catch her breath, she saw that sharply dressed man exiting through the main door on the seventh floor while holding a stack of documents. Surely entering that door wouldn't require a password? Taking advantage of the door being ajar, Song Pearl quickly dashed over.
"What do you want?" The man turned back as he was about to enter the elevator, pulling open the recently closed floor door with his piercing gaze fixed on Song Pearl, who had barged in and was staring blankly at two rows of tightly closed doors.
The girl who rushed in wore an oversized faded pink down jacket, her dark hair messy and casually draped down—was she some kind of lunatic?
"I’m looking for Qing Zong..." Song Pearl smiled unconsciously as her lips curled up. "There are so many rooms here; how come there's only room numbers without any titles? Which one is it?"
"Looking for Qing Zong?" The man's cold expression changed slightly, the chill in his eyes diminishing as he asked, "What do you need Qing Zong for?"
"I need someone in your company who can make decisions and keep their word," Song Pearl's dark eyes flickered.
The Cold Man looked at the frail girl with a look of grievance on her face, and his expression returned to indifference. "The Board of Directors is currently in a meeting, so you won't be able to see anyone who can make decisions. You should go back for now." He raised his hand in a gesture to dismiss her.
"No, I will wait here," Song Pearl stood her ground, tilting her head to stare at him. "They will return to the office after the meeting, right?"
The man frowned and fell silent, raising his hand to press a button on the wall. "How did someone like you get in here? Send her out."
After he finished speaking, he pushed open the door and left quickly with his documents. Song Pearl was confused when she saw two staff members—a man and a woman—emerge from a corner room.
Song Pearl stood still, waiting for them to approach.
"How did you get in? This isn't a place anyone can just walk into. You need an appointment to see the Boss, do you understand?" The short, chubby male staff member had a relatively friendly demeanor.
"Fortunately, the Bosses are all in a meeting; otherwise, this month's bonuses would be deducted again..." The female staff member approached without courtesy and pushed Song Pearl. "Is there no one on duty downstairs? How did you get up here?"
"I want to go to where your Boss is having the meeting," Song Pearl said calmly, not struggling despite being pushed by the female staff member.
She had intended to control the Cold Man and have him take her there, but she wasn't sure if it was because the place was too secure or if his aura was too strong; her command had no effect.
Even so, she didn't want to give up; she could always try again.
Her eyes quickly spotted steam rising from the room where the two staff members had just come out; they must be boiling water with an electric kettle.
Great! Song Pearl lowered her head with a slight smile as two wisps of steam naturally drifted from the room and curled around the hair of the two staff members.
"Today, both the Chairman and President are downstairs at the Board of Directors meeting. I'll take you there." In an instant, the two staff members' attitudes softened, and the female staff member even released her grip on Song Pearl's arm.
Song Pearl smiled slightly and followed the two staff members into the elevator.
Being treated with respect felt really nice.
The elevator stopped on the fifth floor, and Song Pearl felt a bit regretful when she realized it was the fifth floor. If she had known, she would have come directly here earlier, avoiding all this trouble.
It seems that sometimes knowing how to read can be a hassle.
This floor's door did not require any password scanning; a male staff member opened the large door, and Song Pearl followed him inside. A female staff member walked beside her and introduced, "It's the Third Conference Room in the middle. The members of the Board of Directors are having a meeting there, so it might take a while before they finish..."
This was much more spacious than the seventh floor. Song Pearl curiously looked around; the floor was covered with thick carpet, and several fine mahogany doors in the room on the right were tightly closed, each marked with a nameplate.
First Party Branch, Third Conference Room...
Before Song Pearl could clearly see the nameplate on another door, the male staff member ahead had already pushed open the door to the Third Conference Room. "The Chairman and the President are inside; please go in."
"Thank you, you can go back now." Song Pearl confidently walked into the meeting room and waved goodbye to those who had brought her.
The group of people sitting around the oval conference table stopped talking and looked over with various expressions.
