"Minister, I wasn't late. I just went to the Six Workshop. If you don't believe me, you can ask Director Wan," Song Pearl explained.
"Going to the Six Workshop without wearing a hard hat?" Minister Liu scolded with a stern face. "Running around like this without protective gear will affect your department's assessment scores, do you understand?"
"But I don't have work clothes or a hard hat," Song Pearl said, lowering her head and avoiding Minister Liu's gaze.
"Why not?"
"I forgot," Song Pearl replied, still looking down.
Minister Liu was clearly looking for trouble, but Song Pearl didn't get angry because she felt it was her fault; she should have asked beforehand.
Seeing that Song Pearl had a good attitude about admitting her mistake, Minister Liu's anger subsided a bit. "Come with me to get a work uniform."
Song Pearl silently followed Minister Liu to the Quality Department.
Minister Liu sat down at his desk and took out a notebook from the drawer to write up an order for Song Pearl.
Noticing a stack of uneven documents piled on Minister Liu's left side, Song Pearl asked, "Minister Liu, do you have a document regarding fertilizer testing?"
Minister Liu seemed not to hear her and simply tore off the copy he had prepared and tossed it to Song Pearl. She picked it up and stood there, unwilling to leave.
Minister Liu glanced at her and said, "Is there anything else?"
"Minister Liu, do you have an operational document regarding fertilizer testing?" Song Pearl repeated. She thought perhaps her tone earlier hadn't been very respectful, and Minister Liu hadn't heard her.
"Yes." Minister Liu casually flipped through the messy pile of documents. "I don't know where I put it. I'll get it for you once I find it."
"Minister Liu, you should look for it now; it won't take much time," Song Pearl insisted, still standing in front of the desk.
"I don't have time. Why don't you look for it yourself?" Minister Liu pushed a stack of documents toward Song Pearl.
He thought that if he got angry, Song Pearl would take the hint and leave.
Unexpectedly, Song Pearl showed no sign of backing down. She took the documents and began searching through them one by one. Before long, she pulled out a book titled "Fertilizer Testing Document Compilation."
"This is it! I'll take this back to read!" Song Pearl held the document up in front of Minister Liu before turning to leave the Quality Department.
"Hey, you need to clean up this mess..."
Song Pearl had already walked out quickly, and Minister Liu's shout was cut off by the closing door.
Back at the Inspection Station, Gao Xiaoxia asked Song Pearl, "Where's your work uniform?"
Song Pearl raised the document in her hand and said, "It's right here!"
Gao Xiaoxia burst into laughter and said, "Can you wear that? You need to go to the warehouse to get your clothes."
Having worked hard all morning while others took credit, Song Pearl felt a bit displeased. She smiled at Gao Xiaoxia and said, "I don't know where the warehouse is; could you help me get it?"
"Alright, I'll go help you get it."
Gao Xiaoxia had never actively helped others with anything since she arrived in the capital. She didn't know why she agreed when Song Pearl asked her, but she took the receipt and went to the warehouse.
The Warehouse Manager was a middle-aged woman with alluring big eyes and a slightly plump figure.
When Gao Xiaoxia entered the warehouse, she was surprised to see Minister Liu sitting there chatting with the Warehouse Manager.
Gao Xiaoxia smiled at Minister Liu and handed the receipt to the Warehouse Manager, saying, "Picking up labor insurance."
"When did Gao start saying nice things? I see you’re taking the initiative to help others now?" Minister Liu said with a teasing smile.
"Yeah, even Princess Xiao Xia is willing to help people!" the Warehouse Manager laughed as well.
Gao Xiaoxia felt quite unhappy. She was an experienced worker who had been in the factory for a long time, and everyone in her department usually catered to her. Now, helping Song Pearl with this task felt quite beneath her dignity!
But since she was already there, she couldn't just leave halfway. She could only take the labor insurance that the Warehouse Manager found and leave.
"Hey Gao, tomorrow morning you and Guan need to put out the bulletin board. This is the only time before the New Year, so make it festive according to this morning's design," Minister Liu called out to Gao Xiaoxia as she turned to leave.
Gao Xiaoxia paused for a moment but didn’t respond; she elegantly walked away like a lady.
"Look at how obvious your Minister is," the Warehouse Manager chuckled as Gao Xiaoxia's figure disappeared into the distance. "There isn’t anyone in your department that you can manage..."
Minister Liu, playing with a ballpoint pen in his hand, stood up uncomfortably and grunted twice, "There's nothing I can manage; they all have to listen to me anyway."
"Aren't you going to sit for a while?" the Warehouse Manager laughed heartily, watching Minister Liu stand up and immediately prepare to send him off.
Minister Liu irritably tossed out, "I'm very busy; I don't have time to sit!" and left in a huff.
He waited in the warehouse, originally planning to catch Song Pearl when she came to collect her labor protection supplies and teach her a lesson. Unexpectedly, this girl sent Gao Xiaoxia instead.
Minister Liu was not an easily angered person; he had a broad figure and a kind demeanor, which is why the Warehouse Manager joked that he couldn't manage others.
She was certain that he wouldn't get angry, but to her surprise, this usually placid man seemed genuinely upset when he left.
The reason Minister Liu targeted Song Pearl today was that yesterday afternoon, the Factory Director had called him over and instructed, "The recently assigned Song Pearl must be made to leave the Quality Department within a month by any means necessary."
Minister Liu was baffled by this order and asked the Factory Director, "If you don't want this person in the Quality Department, why arrange for her to come at all? Why go through such trouble and make me the bad guy?"
Without looking up, the Factory Director grunted, "Don't ask what you shouldn't. Do you want to take off the acting title and become a formal Minister?"
Minister Liu fell silent; of course he wanted to. Who would want to remain in an acting position indefinitely? Moreover, there was a significant difference in salary and benefits.
Returning to his office, Minister Liu used his connections to gather information and discovered some very confidential news: Song Pearl had been arranged by Qing Zong, but no specific duties had been assigned.
He speculated that the Factory Director didn't want to offend Qing Zong, which is why he assigned Song Pearl as a tester. Perhaps the Factory Director had someone else in mind for the position and wanted Minister Liu to push Song Pearl out.
He would not guess that the Factory Director took Qing Zong's call to originally arrange for Song Pearl to be placed in the dirtiest and most exhausting sandblasting workshop. Who knew that somehow, he ended up designating her as a tester instead.
Once something is said, it cannot be taken back. As a factory leader, how could he go back on his word? Therefore, he contacted Minister Liu of the Quality Department that afternoon, instructing him to ensure that Song Pearl was dismissed.
Minister Liu thought that a month was not a short time; it would be quite easy for a newcomer to make mistakes.
He was somewhat worried before meeting Song Pearl, fearing he might encounter a strong-willed person with connections who would be difficult to deal with. However, upon meeting her, he found that Song Pearl was just a shy and introverted girl who wasn't very talkative, which reassured him.
A girl like this, with a thin skin and timid nature, would likely leave on her own after facing a few setbacks and making some mistakes.
