Every Monday is a busy day, and just as Song Pearl was looking forward to the end of the workday, Manager Gao called her into the office to inform her that she would be accompanying a client for dinner that evening.
Song Pearl blinked and looked at herself, then at Manager Gao, and asked, "Will I embarrass you looking like this?"
Manager Gao glanced at Song Pearl and replied, "You look fine, quite sharp. As a newcomer, you need more practice to build your confidence. The office doesn't just need someone who can clean and serve."
"I understand, thank you, Manager," Song Pearl said, pursing her lips.
After work, Song Pearl followed Manager Gao into the car. Gao Xiaoxia hummed a tune while tidying up the office. She often heard about Director Qing working late and hoped to see him today.
The door to the Director's office opened, and Qing Wenyu, who was on the phone, stepped out just as Gao Xiaoxia was bending down to mop the hallway floor.
"Just getting off work, Director Qing!" Gao Xiaoxia straightened up with a sweet smile.
"I'll be right over," Qing Wenyu nodded at her while continuing his phone call and walked past.
The Director is always so approachable and polite! After watching Qing Wenyu's figure disappear, Gao Xiaoxia put away the mop and went downstairs. There were cleaners in the hallway, and she wanted to wait for the Director to show his face.
The environment was elegant and luxurious; the floor could serve as a mirror. The porcelain displayed in the lobby looked quite valuable. It was Song Pearl's first time in such a high-end hotel.
"Don't look around too much," Manager Gao reminded her quietly.
Song Pearl quickly lowered her head, focusing her eyes on the ground just a step ahead as she followed Manager Gao.
They stopped at the entrance of a private room where a waiter politely opened the door. Song Pearl entered behind Manager Gao.
"Ha ha, Manager Gao, you’re late! It’s hard to get you here!" A middle-aged man with a slightly plump figure sitting at the head of the table waved his hand, inviting Manager Gao to sit beside him while Song Pearl sat closely next to her.
"Come on, sit here! You’re late; that means three shots as a penalty!"
“President Jin, I came from afar, so naturally I have to drink as a penalty for being late.” Manager Gao generously raised his glass and downed three cups of liquor in one go.
“Good, bold! Then let’s…” The person referred to as President Jin gave Manager Gao a thumbs up, but before he could finish his sentence, Manager Gao, who had just sat down after drinking, suddenly turned pale, his lips trembling, and his hands began to shake.
“Manager, what’s wrong with you?” Song Pearl quickly supported Manager Gao.
“I’m… I’m sorry, President Jin, my stomach issues flared up again. I drank too quickly just now; I really… I’m sorry!” Manager Gao looked extremely pained. “Let’s have our company’s Song accompany you for this meal.” She pulled Song Pearl’s hand. “Song, make sure to take good care of President Jin.”
“I understand, Manager.” Song Pearl supported Manager Gao. “I’ll help you to the car!”
Song Pearl helped Manager Gao out of the private room and into the lobby. Manager Gao straightened up and hung her bag on Song Pearl’s shoulder, whispering, “There’s a contract here; have President Jin sign it while you’re eating. This is your chance to prove your abilities; do well.”
“Is it enough just to get him to sign?” Song Pearl took out the contract and glanced at it.
“Mm-hmm.” Manager Gao nodded.
Song Pearl helped Manager Gao into the car and instructed the driver to take her straight to the hospital before turning back to the private room they had just left. To overcome her poor sense of direction, Song Pearl always carefully observed her surroundings in unfamiliar places. Each private room in the restaurant had a nameplate, so she didn’t get lost.
She didn’t notice that as the waiter politely opened the door for her to enter the room, the door of the adjacent private room also opened at the same time, revealing Qing Wenyu accompanying a refined man in his forties.
Once inside, President Jin’s expression was no longer as pleasant as before. He smiled coldly at Song Pearl, asking, “Sister Song, what position do you hold at Hongqing Group?”
Song Pearl bit her lip, unsure how to respond. After all, he was a high-level executive; it felt somewhat disrespectful for the group to send her, just an employee, to host him.
What she didn’t know was that President Jin specifically requested that Sales Department’s Manager Gao host him, but she had fled at the last moment.
“I am…” Song Pearl felt awkward about being just a minor assistant but couldn’t lie either. She could only smile slightly and say, “President Jin, why don’t you sign this contract first before we eat?”
Song Pearl took out the contract from her bag while simultaneously handing over a pen.
According to Song Pearl's thinking, when she showed this smile, President Jin should readily sign.
"Song, you just started working not long ago, right?" President Jin laughed heartily and said to the people at the table, "Have you ever seen someone sign a business deal at the dining table without eating?"
"No, no," everyone at the table laughed in agreement. "Who signs without eating? Let's drink first!"
Someone next to Song Pearl filled her wine glass, and President Jin smiled at her, "Since Manager Gao sent Song to represent her, let's see how Sister Song performs today. Come on, drink!"
Song Pearl sighed inwardly; her ability to control others had once again failed. Her supernatural ability had no effect on demons. Occasionally, her powers would fail—could it be that there were often demons around her?
But that didn't make sense; if there were demons present, she would be able to sense them. The incident with White Cat at Han Village Machinery Factory was an example.
"What's wrong? Is Sister Song afraid to drink? If you drink happily, I will sign!" President Jin twirled his wine glass. "How about I toast you first!"
Song Pearl wasn't familiar with the etiquette of drinking at the table. Seeing that others were toasting her, regardless of their positions, she felt that this older gentleman deserved her respect.
Thinking this way, Song Pearl raised her glass and downed it in one go.
"Good! Refreshing! Another cup..."
Someone filled her glass again.
"Then I will also toast President Jin and everyone here." Song Pearl stood up and politely raised her glass to the people at the table. After finishing her second glass, she pursed her lips.
The taste of this wine was truly excellent and clearer than the waters of Nanhu. From what President Jin implied, as long as she drank well, this meal would be satisfactory for him to sign the contract. It didn't seem too difficult after all.
The people at the table were all very enthusiastic. Song Pearl never rejected others' enthusiasm and welcomed everyone. While others drank and ate, she didn't touch her chopsticks at all, only holding her wine glass with a radiant expression as she accompanied President Jin and the others in drinking.
"Song has a good capacity for alcohol, come, drink!" A man sitting across from Song Pearl raised his wine glass and leaned on the table.
Not many people at the table were sober anymore, except for Song Pearl.
"President Jin, have you finished drinking? How about we sign the contract?" Song Pearl took out the contract and cleared a space on the table.
"Good, good capacity for alcohol!" President Jin burped. "Song, why don't you just work for our company? What do you think?" President Jin's mind was still relatively clear as he gave a thumbs-up to Song Pearl.
"No," Song Pearl quickly shook her head in refusal, looking brightly at President Jin. "I have signed a contract, and if I leave Hongqing, I will have to pay compensation! President Jin, please sign..."
"Okay." President Jin picked up a pen and wrote "Jin" on the paper before leaning over the table.
Is this person named Jin? Song Pearl wasn't sure. She shook President Jin's arm, and he suddenly leaned under the table and started to vomit. Song Pearl quickly covered her nose and ran out of the room.
This should be fine, right? Song Pearl put the contract into her bag.
