Song Pearl After drinking too much on an empty stomach, although her mind was very clear at the moment, her steps felt a bit unsteady. She lowered her head, focused on packing the documents, and after several attempts finally stuffed them into her bag. However, she was walking too fast and didn't see someone suddenly stepping out of a room ahead. She bumped right into that person. The middle-aged man, who had just exited the room wearing glasses and looking refined, stumbled slightly and had to steady himself against the wall to avoid falling.
Song Pearl exclaimed, "Oh no!" while covering her head and repeatedly apologizing.
"It's alright," the middle-aged man said gently, taking a deep breath to straighten up. "Are you okay, miss?"
The man had a slender and fair face with soft features that exuded a sense of approachability. Behind his glasses, his bright eyes were fixed on Song Pearl, who was awkwardly apologizing with her head down.
Under the soft lighting of the hotel, Song Pearl, dressed plainly, did not seem like someone who frequented such places. She appeared noticeably nervous and had a strong smell of alcohol on her, clearly having drunk quite a bit.
The middle-aged man frowned slightly. When he saw her face as she lifted her head, he was momentarily taken aback and seemed at a loss for words.
Song Pearl looked up to find the middle-aged man staring at her in surprise and quickly said, "I'm fine! Are you okay, sir? I'm really sorry; I wasn't watching where I was going!"
As the two exchanged apologies, the door to the private room opened, and Qing Wenyu stepped out.
"Mr. Wu, what happened?"
"Nothing much. I just bumped into this young lady when I came out," the man referred to as Mr. Wu replied with a smile, his gaze still fixed on Song Pearl, as if he had recognized an old acquaintance.
"Song Pearl?" Qing Wenyu looked at Song Pearl. "What are you doing here?"
"Hello, Director! I came with Manager Gao to accompany a client for dinner. You all carry on; I'll take my leave!" Song Pearl quickly bowed and turned to run away, worried that if she took too long, Mr. Wu's gaze would consume her.
"What an odd person!" As Song Pearl ran out of the hotel door, she couldn't help but think about Mr. Wu's eyes; they seemed somewhat familiar—strange, as if she had seen them somewhere before.
"Her name is Song Pearl?" Back at the dining table, Mr. Wu asked Qing Wenyu.
"Yes, she's an employee of our company," Qing Wenyu replied while pouring a glass of water for Mr. Wu. "Mr. Wu, please have some tea."
"I've finished drinking, thank you for your hospitality," Mr. Wu said with a gentle smile. "This is also my hometown, but after more than twenty years, there are no relatives left here. Get up, your father and I are old acquaintances; it would be even better if he were here!"
"My dad went abroad a few days ago to inspect a cooperative project and should be back in a while," Qing Wenyu replied. "If Mr. Wu invests in our Resort development project this time, we will see each other often in the future."
"Yes, your Resort development project is very impressive; truly remarkable for someone so young. The Resort allows tourists to stay in houses with red stone walls and earthen walls, fully experiencing rural pastoral life. They can also grow and pick vegetables and fruits in the ecological garden, hunt mountain chickens and wild rabbits in the mountains, and engage in aquaculture to catch fish and shrimp. This combination of multiple projects will surely attract a large number of customers. I can already envision the future development prospects! Developing this project has been my dream for many years, but I never took action. I didn't expect you to have such thorough plans; well done!"
Mr. Wu's eyes were filled with approval.
"Which village is that Song Pearl from?" Mr. Wu recalled the anxious and thin girl from earlier. "She looked like she just started working, appearing malnourished; your company isn't employing child labor, are you?"
"No," Qing Wenyu replied with a smile. "Although our large group isn't as internationally renowned as Mr. Wu's tourism group, we do abide by the law. She graduated from Provincial Agricultural University and is from Song Family Village in our county."
"Song Family Village?" Mr. Wu fell into thought. "Song Family Village is a good place; the people there are very kind... That area is where you plan to primarily develop, right?" Mr. Wu asked.
"Yes. We are currently negotiating with the local residents to encourage them to relocate..." Qing Wenyu smiled as he discussed the future development plans of the cooperative project with Mr. Wu.
Qing Wenyu was organized, and Mr. Wu listened attentively, nodding frequently. The two felt a strong rapport, almost as if they had missed their opportunity for cooperation too late.
Feeling that it was about time, Qing Wenyu invited Mr. Wu to return to his guest room to rest. Just as they got up from their seats, an ambulance siren sounded outside the hotel.
Medical staff in white coats hurriedly brought several people out on stretchers with the help of hotel staff from the adjacent room and rushed them into the ambulance.
"Those people seem to have been brought by Jin Zhu; how did they end up in the ambulance?" Mr. Wu frowned, his expression showing displeasure.
"What happened with those people just now?" Qing Wenyu asked a staff member at the door.
"They got alcohol poisoning; we only discovered it while cleaning the room and immediately called an ambulance!" the staff member replied.
Mr. Wu had already taken out his phone to dial a number when a ringtone sounded from the adjacent dining table. The staff member came out holding the phone and handed it to Mr. Wu, saying, "The owner of this phone was just sent to the hospital."
Song Pearl did not know that the people she had been drinking with had all been hospitalized. At this moment, she returned to her dormitory in a very good mood. She had gained a lot today; first, she did not get lost, and second, she drank a lot without getting drunk. Previously, she had only heard myths about people who could drink thousands of cups without getting intoxicated, but now she realized that Song Pearl was one of those who could drink endlessly. Moreover, she had completed the signing task assigned to her by Manager Gao, getting President Jin to sign the contract.
Since joining the Sales Department, she had been criticized by Manager Gao almost every day due to her lack of knowledge. Although she earnestly sought help from her colleagues, she still often made mistakes. She frequently thought that her slow reactions made her unsuitable for this kind of office clerical work, but she did not know which other department could take her in.
However, tonight Song Pearl felt a sense of accomplishment for the first time. She could also sign contracts; she had heard from those salespeople who often went out that as long as they signed contracts, they could earn commissions. She was unsure if the contract she signed would earn her anything; several times she took the document out of her bag to look at it but still could not understand what it meant.
The next day, Song Pearl arrived at the company early. She boiled some hot water and tidied up the office. Although it seemed someone had cleaned up yesterday afternoon, it was done very carelessly, so Song Pearl had to clean it again.
After finishing the cleaning, Song Pearl made a cup of red tea for each colleague who came to work, and then Manager Gao and the others gradually arrived.
Song Pearl returned Manager Gao's bag to her and handed over the signed document.
Manager Gao smiled faintly as she took the document and glanced at it. She looked up at Song Pearl, "This person is called Jin Zhu. What does it mean that he only signed one gold?"
"This..." Song Pearl bit her lip, "Manager, I was wrong. I will go find him to sign again."
