"Don't get too close to me!" Song Pearl pushed away the snake head that was about the same size as her own head.
"I've made up my mind!" The creature moved its head in front of Song Pearl, facing her directly. "I've decided to become a snake and follow you until you find my master!"
"Am I supposed to carry you?" Song Pearl shrank back slightly. "Don't joke around. With this huge thing, I won't be able to go anywhere..."
"How could I make it difficult for you?" The creature twisted its body, gradually shrinking into a slender Azure Snake. "What size do you think I should be?"
Song Pearl looked at the snake for a moment and said, "This size is just fine."
"You’re being insincere!" The creature huffed. "I can't see any sign that you like me."
"What do I like about you? Are you a fish?" Song Pearl shot a glare at the creature. She realized that the only benefit of the creature's transformation was that its eyes were no longer so large, making it impossible for it to stare directly at her, which lifted her spirits.
"Hmph! You're going to get married sooner or later! So haughty!" The creature turned and disappeared without a trace.
Song Pearl glanced at the corner where the creature had vanished and pouted, leaning against the wall and closing her eyes. She hoped her family would come looking for her soon after realizing she was missing. Although there were many traps on this mountain, she knew they wouldn't stop Song Shiting.
However, she didn't expect to wait for three hours at the Land Temple. Although Qing Wenyu's fever had subsided, he remained deeply asleep for three hours.
She picked up a few buns that had been thrown on the ground, heated them over the fire, and after Qing Wenyu woke up, she broke them apart and fed them to him.
She wondered if he would remember eating this when he got back and if he would throw it all up.
Song Pearl smiled, and just then, Qing Wenyu opened his eyes, fully awake.
"What happened to me?" he asked.
"You had a high fever; you were sick," Song Pearl replied.
"It's clear now; we need to find a way down the mountain," Qing Wenyu said, feeling refreshed. He stood up but sensed something was off when he looked down and saw half of his shirt hanging off him. "What happened to my clothes?"
"Over there!" Song Pearl pointed to a piece of cloth on the ground that had already dried.
"I can't face anyone like this," Qing Wenyu murmured softly, his footsteps not stopping.
When he reached the temple gate, he saw the willow tree with a large piece of bark stripped off, and asked, "Has someone gnawed on this tree?"
"Uh," Song Pearl paused, "the snake crashed into it..."
"Before? We've been here for quite a while!" Qing Wenyu said in disbelief, ignoring the issue of the snake.
"What's so strange about this!" Song Pearl looked at the clouds beyond the leaves. "No one has come to find us; we can only stay on the mountain!"
"Are you sure you're not in cahoots with them?" Qing Wenyu shot a suspicious glance at Song Pearl. "They trapped me here just for the relocation issue."
He felt somewhat downcast and then took large strides forward. With the sun out, finding a way would be much easier.
Song Pearl, lacking resolve, followed behind Qing Wenyu. A spirit wrapped around her thumb, transforming into a ring-sized form.
"It seems like many people have been up this mountain," Qing Wenyu said cautiously as he walked ahead.
At that moment, many people were gathered at the foot of the mountain.
"The Director's car is parked at the bottom of the mountain, but we've searched this mountain several times and haven't seen him; maybe he's not here."
Those searching on the mountain began to come down one after another, and Qing Yuansheng remained silent.
"Are there wolves on this mountain?" Tian Yue suddenly asked, feeling a bit anxious.
She couldn't imagine what would happen if Qing Wenyu encountered a pack of wolves.
"This mountain is low; it's impossible for there to be wolves," Qing Yuansheng reassured her, though he too felt a bit anxious.
Hong Dong also arrived at Song Family Village. He looked at Qing Yuansheng, whose anxious lips were blistering, shook his head, and sighed. "Although our intentions are good, if these people don't understand, we shouldn't force them to relocate. Let's abandon this project! After all, it's hard for poor families to leave; I understand them."
As soon as Hong Dong spoke, the village chief quickly approached.
He had been waiting for this sentence. He shook Hong Dong's hand and said, "Chairman Hong, you truly are a person of great ambition and capability!"
Then he turned to Qing Yuansheng and said, "Yuansheng, you are also a person of great ambition. Don't bother with us common folks. I will arrange for the villagers to help search."
Qing Yuansheng looked at the village chief's pleased expression and sneered coldly.
Just as the village chief was about to send people out to search, someone with sharp eyes noticed a slight movement among the green grass and vines on the mountain. Song Shiting pushed aside the thorny vines and walked towards them, followed closely by Song Pearl.
Seeing these two, the village chief suddenly had an idea and called out to Song Shiting, "Hey, Song Shiting, how did you come down from the mountain?"
"I went to find Pearl," Song Shiting replied coldly, glancing at the village chief. Although he didn't know what was going on, it seemed he was being used again.
"Oh, looking for Pearl! I see!" The village chief said with a forced smile. "Yuansheng's son also went up the mountain. Did you see him?"
"He'll be here soon," Song Shiting said, not wanting to engage with these people any longer. He supported Song Pearl as they left.
At that moment, there was more movement behind the trees at the mountain entrance. Qing Wenyu walked over in a button-up shirt that Song Shiting had given him.
He walked calmly with a stern expression. When he saw Tian Yue anxiously waiting at the foot of the mountain, his expression changed slightly, revealing a hint of surprise.
"Uncle Hong, Dad, Mom," Qing Wenyu greeted them with a smile.
"Thank goodness you're okay! Let's go!" Qing Yuansheng patted Qing Wenyu on the shoulder. "Your grandmother has passed away. I'll take you to her grave to pay your respects, and then we'll go back. From now on, we have nothing to do with Song Family Village."
Qing Wenyu nodded in agreement and supported Tian Yue's arm as he followed Qing Yuansheng.
"Mom, sorry for worrying you," he said softly.
"It's fine as long as you're safe. Thank goodness," Tian Yue murmured, looking at Qing Wenyu with love in her eyes.
"Yuan Sheng, now you can see that this has nothing to do with me! It must be Song Shiting who colluded with his daughter to kidnap Wen Yu. I really just wanted to help!" The village chief rushed behind Qing Yuansheng, chattering away.
Qing Yuansheng stopped in front of the car, looked deeply at the village chief, and slowly said, "Who did it is no longer important; the key is my son's safety."
After he finished speaking, everyone got into the car. The village chief and the villagers watched the vehicle drive away, uncertain if Song Family Village would be peaceful from then on.
They should keep their word and no longer force the villagers to relocate.
"Song Family Village won't be developed?" As the car drove along the road, Qing Wenyu wiped his mouth after drinking the milk his mother handed him and asked.
"Yes, your idea is great, but the villagers here have always opposed it, and we can't force them," Qing Yuansheng looked ahead. "I have already discussed it with Hong Dong and decided to abandon this thankless project."
"If that's the case, the profits from the originally planned Ecological Aquaculture Park will be much lower once it's established," Qing Wenyu pondered.
"Hmph, we won't build the ecological park either. I've already talked to Hong Dong about it; we plan to sell this piece of land instead of wasting energy and funds on it!" Qing Yuansheng took a deep breath and slowly exhaled, as if that could release the pressure in his heart.
Qing Wenyu was silent for a moment and said, "But we have already invested quite a bit in the early stages. Mr. Wu from Jin Mai also came to discuss this cooperation project; it seems a pity to give up like this."
