"Children, don't ask so many questions," Song Pearl said, patting Wan and taking out a card to give him. "This is my spending card; you can use it freely at the Resort. Do you know where the dining area is?"
"Have you ever seen a kid as tall, sunny, and handsome as me?" Wan rolled his beautiful almond-shaped eyes and stood up, spinning around the room. "A single card won't be enough to satisfy me. I see you have a kitchen here... I want to cook for myself!"
Through the window, he could see the fishing area around the Fish Pond, where some tourists were laughing and playing.
"When I came last time, it was winter, and I didn't get a chance to play in the water. This time, I want to catch a fish and have a picnic!"
He was full of excitement, placing the card on a side table, which happened to press down on the Amber tied with a red string. "I'm going to catch fish right now; I'll return this to you!"
He was just like a mischievous child—quick with his words and actions. Before finishing his sentence, he was already at the door and bumped into someone trying to enter.
At the entrance, two men in business attire were about to walk in when Wan collided with them, causing them to step back several paces. However, they appeared well-mannered and did not get angry.
"Are you two staff members?" Wan asked without any sense of apology for bumping into them. He raised his well-defined eyebrows and looked the two unfamiliar men up and down before asking again, "Not locals?"
"We are private bodyguards for Wu Yuqian. Her Amber Necklace is missing, and we are tasked with searching for everyone who has come into contact with her," one of the men replied politely, his demeanor indicating he was well-trained.
"Who is Wu Yuqian?" Wan asked disdainfully, not hiding his arrogance in his tone. "What a big deal to have bodyguards!"
"Wu Yuqian is Chairman Wu's daughter; she just arrived today," the other man said, losing some of his politeness as he raised his chin in a similarly arrogant manner.
It seemed that whether it was Song Pearl or Song Zhenbao, anyone who became Wu Qiang's daughter would be called Wu Yuqian.
Song Pearl looked at the two bodyguards and said, "The Resort has dedicated staff; if you've lost something, you can inform them, and there will naturally be someone to help search. Wandering around like this will annoy customers and affect our image."
"General Manager Song," the two bodyguards clearly recognized Song Pearl and explained respectfully enough, "Wu Jie has already reported the loss to the Resort's management department. Your staff has also searched along the route but found nothing. Since that necklace is very important to Wu Jie, we are conducting our own search. You are one of the people who have interacted with Wu Jie; please cooperate."
It was clear they intended to search inside the room? Song Pearl did not move; whether Treasure had intentionally or unintentionally lost the Amber did not warrant such an uproar.
She smirked slightly and said, "No need to search; I haven't seen what you're looking for. Please leave."
The two bodyguards blocked the doorway and showed no intention of leaving.
"Please check your clothing pockets and the room; we appreciate your understanding."
Wán crossed his arms and stood beside Song Pearl, his eyes slightly squinted with a faint smile as he said, "Why don't you come over and check for yourselves?"
Although his tone was calm, there was already a hint of anger in his expression. When this young man got angry, he had an air of arrogance that made it clear he could easily throw these two back to where they came from.
The two bodyguards did not move; they seemed a bit hesitant. At that moment, voices could be heard nearby as Wu Yuqian walked over, linking arms with Wu Qiang and smiling.
"I just ran into Pearl, and I recognized her right away. She hasn't changed at all, still the same big head and small body..." Wu Yuqian's words were filled with cheerful laughter, her eyes crescent-shaped and her lips curled up in a charming smile.
"Pearl is very capable, serious about her work, and has strong skills. You should learn from her more in the future..." Wu Qiang spoke gently, his gaze turning toward them.
"Where did you find these two bodyguards? They seem to have quite good quality," Wu Qiang said, looking at the two who were standing stiffly at Song Pearl's door. "You, Girl, what made you suddenly think of hiring bodyguards?"
"Of course it's because it's trendy!" Wu Yuqian pouted playfully. "Dad, you don't know; all my friends have bodyguards and secret guards around them. It's quite impressive!"
Wu Qiang chuckled dismissively; since it was just kids playing around, there was no need to pry too much.
"Pearl!"
She released Wu Qiang's arm and ran in front of Song Pearl, affectionately taking her hand. The earlier anger on her face had vanished as if Song Pearl had never asked her for Amber or that she had never bumped into Song Pearl at all.
"What kind of attitude is this towards Pearl?" Wu Yuqian scolded the two bodyguards.
"Sister, Chairman, we haven't checked yet," one of the bodyguards replied respectfully.
"Pearl, my Amber is missing. Have you seen it?" Wu Yuqian's big eyes sparkled with genuine hope as she shook Song Pearl's arm.
Should I give it back to her? But that Amber was mine to begin with. Song Pearl hesitated.
"I haven't seen it; if I had, I would have told them right away," Wán said, tilting his chin toward the two bodyguards as he answered for Song Pearl.
"Who are you?" Wu Yuqian seemed to just notice Wán now.
Wán stood blocking the door with his tall and slender figure as if he hadn't heard her question.
"He is my friend and just arrived today."
"Oh? Friend?" Wu Yuqian's gaze held a hint of inquiry and curiosity.
"Since Pearl hasn't seen it, you shouldn't make a fuss," Wu Qiang stepped in to mediate. He handed a photo to Song Pearl, "Pearl, this is the Amber, adorned with a red thread. Although it's not valuable, it holds significant sentimental value. You need to arrange for someone to find it."
Song Pearl took the photo from Wu Qiang's hand; the black-and-white image had already yellowed, clearly having been preserved for some years.
Wu Yuqian did not expect Wu Qiang to value Song Pearl so much. She lowered her eyelids, curled her lips into a smile, and tears welled up in her eyes. "I'm sorry, Dad. It's all my carelessness that I lost such an important item."
She knew that Song Pearl must have picked up that Amber Necklace. To prevent Song Pearl from claiming it as her own later on and insisting on getting the Amber back, she had no choice but to escalate the situation. She needed to make both Song Pearl and Wu Qiang believe that she was the rightful owner of the Amber.
She initially thought that if Song Pearl handed over the Amber in front of Wu Qiang, she could easily leave Song Pearl speechless with just a few words. Then, if Song Pearl ever asked her for it again, others would believe she was being unreasonable.
If Song Pearl didn't present it, she would have someone dig out the Amber right here, which would be even better and would change Wu Qiang's impression of Song Pearl.
From her understanding of Song Pearl in her previous life, this silly girl was truly naive and was no match for her at all.
