The girl ultimately chose not to eat the goose.
When Song Pearl saw the girl smiling brightly while posing for a photo with a goose, she let out a sigh of relief. It was not only because of the interests of the Resort, but also because this incident would not leave any shadows in the girl's heart in the future.
By the time this matter was handled, it was already evening. Yuan Peng informed Song Pearl that the guests who had suffered food poisoning at the hospital had calmed down, and regarding the medical compensation issue, Song Ya had already clarified things with the customers, allowing her to feel at ease.
Even so, Song Pearl still went to the hospital to visit the guest who had experienced food poisoning.
This tourist was in his forties and had some pre-existing gastrointestinal issues that he had neglected. After consuming seafood, he experienced intestinal reactions leading to vomiting and diarrhea. Fortunately, the problem was not very serious.
Hong Xinran arrived on the second afternoon and went straight to the Resort, inviting Song Pearl to attend the celebration banquet hosted by Hongqing Group that evening.
"I feel like an outsider just going there to mooch off food and drinks; I think I'll pass!" Song Pearl declined, as her mood had been quite poor.
Hong Xinran did not notice any change in Song Pearl and insisted, "Just consider it keeping me company; I'll feel very lonely at the banquet all by myself! Besides, you were once part of Hongqing!"
She put on a pitiful expression.
Hong Xinran's identity was not public; she had been working at Hongqing for over two years, and many people speculated about her special relationship with Chairman Hong. As a result, there were those who envied her, those who flattered her, but she truly had no friends.
Unable to withstand Hong Xinran's persistent persuasion, Song Pearl reluctantly agreed to go.
Although the banquet was based on her creative ideas, being there in person still amazed her. She hadn't expected it to exceed her expectations. It seemed that Wu Yuqian indeed had considerable talent in this area.
The staff saw Song Pearl dressed in her usual attire and thought she was there to inspect the work, making them even more cautious in their tasks.
Looking around at the crowd dressed in high society fashion in the banquet hall, Song Pearl regretted her casual outfit. After entering, she had been mistaken for a server multiple times by guests who asked her to do this or that until the elegantly dressed Hong Xinran pulled her away.
"I still have some guests to attend to tonight; you can sit at this table as a guest and wait for me for a bit. I'll be right back," Hong Xinran said as she patted Song Pearl, playfully sticking out her tongue. "It would be so boring for you to stay home alone. Isn't it better to meet a few more friends here?"
Song Pearl pouted slightly, not feeling particularly indebted to Hong Xinran. A few businessmen nearby were discussing business strategies, which sounded rather dull to her.
She inadvertently glanced in another direction of the hall. Suddenly, she saw the guest who had broken the antique vase yesterday sitting with two prominent figures from Hongqing, Chairman Hong and Qing Yuansheng.
Next to them was someone she was also familiar with, Wu Qiang, the chairman of Jin Mai and also the chairman of the Resort.
When Song Pearl's gaze fell on Wu Qiang, she felt a mix of emotions. She turned her face away awkwardly, only to see Wu Yuqian approaching her.
Wu Yuqian was elegantly made up and dressed in a pure white knee-length gown, clearly there to attend the banquet.
She also noticed Song Pearl, who seemed like a speck of dust in the glamorous atmosphere.
Wu Yuqian smiled lightly as she reached Song Pearl's side. "Song Pearl, what brings you here? Here to check on my work performance?"
"Not at all, you're doing great," Song Pearl replied with a half-smile as she looked at Wu Yuqian. "I just came to attend the banquet by invitation."
"Invited you?" Wu Yuqian was somewhat surprised and instinctively said, "What qualifications do you have?"
"Perhaps because I used to be an employee of Hongqing," Song Pearl replied with a gentle smile.
"An employee?" Wu Yuqian realized. "The employees of Hongqing are all in that banquet hall; you've come to the wrong place!" She scrutinized Song Pearl. "Besides, your outfit isn't suitable for this occasion..."
Wu Yuqian cheerfully pointed out a direction for Song Pearl. Of course, Song Pearl was very familiar with it and didn't mind smiling back. "I can't go over just yet because I have friends waiting here!"
Wu Yuqian frowned and stopped pretending to be friendly.
"If you don't mind being bored, you can stay here! Just that outfit is a bit too eye-catching..."
With that, Wu Yuqian lifted her chin and ignored Song Pearl, turning her attention to another direction where she immediately put on a bright smile and rushed over. "Dad, when did you arrive? Why didn't you let me know first?"
She sweetly ran toward the table where Wu Qiang was sitting, who smiled kindly and reached out his hand to her.
What a harmonious father-daughter relationship!
Wu Qiang knows that he is her biological father, yet they do not acknowledge each other. If he does not care, then why does he let others protect her? What is the reason for this?
Song Pearl, although curious, does not intend to ask. The fact has already been established; Song Zhenbao is Wu Qiang's daughter, and she does not want to complicate matters further.
She can feel Wu Qiang's concern for her, and that is enough.
"Pearl, over here. Let me introduce you to some clients," Hong Xinran said as she gracefully approached, pulling Song Pearl along to introduce her to some clients she knew.
After the formalities of polite conversation, it was merely to familiarize Song Pearl with the clients, hoping to bring in more business for the Resort in the future.
On the other side, Qing Yuansheng watched as Hong Xinran led Song Pearl through the crowd of clients with ease. He casually remarked, "This Song Pearl really doesn't know her own worth. She should consider the occasion; jumping around like that is quite unbecoming!"
His words caused two people present to frown simultaneously.
One was Chairman Hong, who felt that since Hong Xinran was always with Song Pearl, her behavior was no different from Hong Xinran's.
The other was, of course, Wu Qiang.
"Song Pearl is my appointed General Manager of the Resort; she isn't as incompetent as you suggest!" he said, swallowing a sip of tea and responding with displeasure.
"Wu, this plain-looking girl is actually your appointed General Manager?" Bald Man exclaimed with a puff of smoke and a grin. "I agree with Qing; this girl is too young and her abilities are average. The management at the Resort is far too lax. You wouldn't believe it; I hadn't even put down my luggage when the antique vase I just bought shattered—worth over three million! I didn't hear a sound!"
"Is that so?" Wu Qiang raised an eyebrow and glanced at Bald Man. "You came to attend Hongqing's annual meeting. Why bring an antique?"
"Of course, it's a gift for a friend!" Bald Man smiled and then turned to Qing Yuansheng and Hong Dong. "You Hongqing really live up to your reputation as a big group. Even an ordinary employee can casually produce a vase worth over four million without batting an eye while helping the Resort cover losses..."
"Ordinary employee?" Qing Yuansheng and Hong Dong both expressed interest simultaneously. "I didn't know there were employees in the company who liked collecting antiques. Who is it? Did they come to the banquet today?"
"Not yet seen," the Bald Man glanced at Wu Yuqian, "but this person, Wu Jie, seems to know her well; it appears she has known her for a long time!"
"Oh? Is that so?" Wu Qiang looked at Wu Yuqian with interest. "My daughter lived here for a while when she was younger; it's not surprising she has a few friends."
"Here he comes, that young talent," the Bald Man said, looking at the tall man striding in through the hall door, his mouth agape.
He could already sense that this well-mannered man with a sharp gaze held an unusual status in Hongqing.
"Is that your son?" Qing Yuansheng's eyes narrowed slightly, concealing a hint of emotion. "That is Son."
"Your son?" the Bald Guest suddenly burst into laughter. "I didn't expect that after so many years, your son would give me such a greeting. Truly, the younger generation surpasses the older; your nephew is much more personable than you!"
The Bald Man said meaningfully.
Qing Yuansheng's jaw twitched, and he said nothing, only snorted and smiled.
"Zhenzhu, I'm feeling a bit tired and hungry. How about we find a place to rest?" Hong Xinran pulled Song Pearl aside after encountering wave after wave of guests and finally stopped in a corner.
"Isn't there enough food and drink here?" Song Pearl looked at Hong Xinran with some confusion. "Aren't you going to sit with your dad for a bit and show your face?"
"Shh, no need for that; I've already shown my face enough!" Hong Xinran smiled proudly. "Sister Hong is a proud and mysterious figure; it has nothing to do with me. Let's go take a break!"
Song Pearl was at a loss with the quirky Hong Xinran and followed her out of the banquet hall.
Sitting obediently beside Wu Qiang, Wu Yuqian watched the figures of Song Pearl and Hong Xinran leave, deep in thought.
She hadn't expected Sister Hong to be so proud that even an outstanding man like Qing Wenyu didn't catch her eye; instead, she had become friends with the inconspicuous Song Pearl.
This was Wu Yuqian's first time seeing Hong Xinran since arriving here; she recognized her immediately as Hong Dong's daughter. However, looking at her attire and demeanor, she seemed no different from an ordinary professional woman—graceful in any circle—far from the aloof and cold persona described in rumors.
"Does Sister Hong still have cousins?" Wu Yuqian thought to herself, suddenly feeling bored sitting next to a few old men.
"Let's go to the kitchen and see if there's anything good to eat," Hong Xinran said as she slipped out the door, pulling Song Pearl along in one direction. She was just as familiar with this resort as Song Pearl was.
Song Pearl chuckled, not understanding what strange thoughts were occupying Hong Xinran's mind. It was rare to see a girl like her, who was so energetic and always on the move.
"Were you on a business trip?" Song Pearl recalled something and asked.
"I'm about to say goodbye to Hongqing; I'm going to start my own business for my dreams," Hong Xinran said, her eyes bending into a smile, but her tone was serious. "We won't see each other as often in the future, so you need to take care of yourself!"
"Are you going to work at a hospital?" Song Pearl guessed what Hong Xinran meant.
"No," Hong Xinran shook her head, her eyes sparkling with excitement. "My dad finally agreed with me; he plans to withdraw his shares from Hongqing and invest in me to open the largest and best hospital in the country!"
"You guys are having this annual meeting just to eat a farewell dinner?" Although there had long been rumors about Hongqing splitting up, no one truly believed it.
Hearing Hong Xinran's announcement surprised Song Pearl. This indicated that Hong Xinran would ultimately not marry Qing Wenyu.
So, did her previous marriage to Qing Wenyu actually turn out to be a business alliance? (To be continued...)
