"Today is the day of the wedding ceremony. Your mother's house is far away, so we need to leave early. I have already packed the gifts; you should go eat first. After you finish, we will set off."
Qing Wenyu, who was already quite handsome without much embellishment, looked dazzling and showed no signs of last night's drunkenness. Song Pearl bit her lip, not expecting to have slept so deeply.
Qing Yuansheng had already gone to the company, and Tian Yue did not mind that Song Pearl got up too late. She informed Song Pearl that the two of them would be moving to another house soon, and from now on, Song Pearl would need to take more care of Qing Wenyu's daily needs.
Song Pearl lowered her head to drink porridge, feeling that her mother-in-law's implication was that she could not be so lazy in the future.
In this day and age, isn't it supposed to be gender equality? Song Shiting often cooked; why should she have to be a virtuous wife just because she got married?
Fortunately, she didn't have to serve her in-laws. For this, Song Pearl felt a sense of relief.
As the car got onto the highway, Song Pearl was still lost in thought.
Qing Wenyu was quite accustomed to seeing Song Pearl like this. In his impression, this girl was special and intriguing; he just never expected that this unique girl would end up in his bed after their engagement.
Even more unexpectedly, they had actually gotten married, so he still hadn't found his place in this new role. He didn't know how to adapt to it.
The city where Wu Qiang lived was indeed bustling, with towering buildings and crowded streets filled with cars. Now seeing all this, Song Pearl did not feel strange; deep in her memory, this was a place she once lived.
She admitted that without a car, she still wouldn't know the way home.
"After you recognized your father, you haven't been here, right?" Qing Wenyu asked leisurely while resting his hand on the steering wheel and looking at the traffic lights ahead.
"Is it true that you would only marry Wu Qiang's daughter? As for who this woman is or what she looks like, it doesn't matter at all?" Song Pearl did not answer but suddenly asked this question.
As soon as the words left her mouth, Song Pearl was taken aback. Her hand gripped Amber at her neck. Could it be that the soul of Wu Yuqian was still floating around? She hadn't intended to ask, but the question had already slipped out.
Qing Wenyu paused for a moment, and at that moment, the green light turned on, and the car started moving.
"I don't know," he suddenly said. "I am used to following my parents' orders."
"Don't know?" Song Pearl tilted her head to look at him; perhaps this was the best answer.
So he was just like her, merely fulfilling a mission? That wasn't so bad after all.
Wu Qiang married Jin Zhi, which could be considered as a form of adoption. Unfortunately, Jin Zhi passed away early and left no children. Thus, Wu Yuqian became Wu Qiang's genuine treasured pearl and received recognition from Jin Zhi's parents and the Jin Family.
Although Jin Zhi was an only child, she had many cousins, but few were capable. The only one who could barely be considered talented was Jin Zhu, who had been painstakingly nurtured by the Jin Family Elders.
So when Jin Zhi's father passed away, Jinmai Group was still fully managed by Wu Qiang. Now that Wu Qiang's in-laws had also passed away one after another, he was the only one living in the Jin Family mansion. Despite this, it was not desolate.
"Don't get lost in thought; today's scene is even livelier than at the wedding, so take it easy," Qing Wenyu said as he stopped the car and leaned back in his seat to address Song Pearl.
"Well, returning home is all about relatives from the maternal side checking out their son-in-law; just keep your composure," Song Pearl replied meaningfully to Qing Wenyu, recalling his drunken state from last night.
"What do I have to worry about? It's you who seems like you've stolen someone else's identity!" Qing Wenyu seemed to remind her with a smile as he got out of the car to grab the gifts.
The large gate of the courtyard had already been opened, and many friends and family members came out to greet them. Song Pearl looked at these people, and memories from her past life surged forth; these individuals had once treated her like a star among them, and even after all these years, it remained the same.
The Jin Family mansion appeared ancient, exuding a sense of luxurious antiquity.
Wu Qiang accompanied the new son-in-law, and Song Pearl was attended by her aunt and some sisters since she had no mother. Perhaps accustomed to solitude, she did not feel particularly lonely.
With experiences from two lifetimes and two years of navigating the business world, if she wanted to act, she would not be any worse than others.
She was still called Song Pearl, without changing her name; another name was given to Song Zhenbao. If she wished, she could still be Wu Yuqian.
"Pearl, come over here." The aunt welcomed her warmly, as if she were her own daughter.
As Song Pearl took a step forward, more people surged into the banquet hall. These girls were laughing and joking, with Wu Yuqian leading the way.
She wore a light blue strapless gown, looking elegant and graceful. Song Pearl discreetly glanced at herself; Qing Wenyu had good taste. As a newlywed, her attire was generous and no longer resembled that of a previous Cinderella who couldn't go out.
"Pearl, you’re here." Wu Yuqian smiled innocently, extending her hand to link arms with Song Pearl. "I’m also considered family, specially here to host you."
It seemed as if nothing had happened; her smile was bright and free of past grievances.
In the crowd, whispers arose. Originally there to see the new son-in-law, they ended up commenting on the new bride instead.
"Look at her; no matter how splendidly she dresses, it can't hide her poverty..."
"And her skin is so dark..."
"Her face isn’t pretty either; she can’t compare to Wu Yuqian’s grace!"
Song Pearl remained indifferent, wearing a faint smile. There was no need to argue with them today.
Unknowingly, standing in front of the staircase in the hall, Song Pearl's back stiffened as she recalled the scene she had seen in Amber, where she had fallen down.
"Pearl, the banquet hasn't started yet. They are looking at you like they would at a stranger... It's quite boring. How about I take you upstairs to see the rooms?" Wu Yuqian whispered to Song Pearl, showing understanding.
Song Pearl nodded and followed Wu Yuqian upstairs.
Some girls wanted to follow them up but were pulled back by other girls. "What are you following for? Let the sisters chat privately!"
"This is my room, Dad..." Wu Yuqian smiled awkwardly at this point. "Uncle still reserved this room for me; he prepared that big room next door for you. But since you're married and it's far away, you probably won't stay here, right?"
Song Pearl toured the room with some restraint. Wu Yuqian's room was elegantly decorated, like a palace, almost a replica of her bedroom from her past life.
"You must have lived like a princess all these years, right?" Her expression dimmed a bit, not out of envy for Song Zhenbao's luxurious bedroom.
"I'm sorry. Although Uncle doesn't mind, I still want to apologize for my actions. I really didn't know that Amber was actually yours. If you hadn't thrown mine away, I wouldn't have taken yours..."
Song Pearl silently listened to Wu Yuqian. She rarely expressed her opinions; she was naturally quiet, and Wu Yuqian didn't seem to care.
After sitting in the room for a moment, Wu Yuqian seemed to feel that her continuous talking was meaningless.
"The banquet is about to start; let's go downstairs! We wouldn't want the elders to think you're being rude as the eldest sister!"
Wu Yuqian spoke thoughtfully for Song Pearl. When they reached the staircase, she suddenly stopped and stared at a spot downstairs. "Pearl, do you see who that is?"
Song Pearl wasn't curious about who it was; she looked in the direction Wu Yuqian pointed. Suddenly, without warning, Wu Yuqian's body swayed and bumped into her. Instinctively, she stepped aside and steadied herself without reaching for the handrail like most people would.
Looking down, she saw Wu Yuqian awkwardly rolling down the stairs.
"Oh no, what happened?" The relatives sitting at the table downstairs, enjoying snacks and seeds, rushed over. Someone helped Wu Yuqian up; although she looked disheveled, she clearly wasn't injured.
"It was my fault for twisting my ankle and falling down. Pearl didn't push me!" Wu Yuqian hurriedly explained while rubbing her wrist, her pale face filled with anxiety.
"Quick, let’s check if you can move your foot!"
Song Pearl stood coldly on the stairs without moving. She had no need to come down and comfort this woman with a heart as venomous as a snake! The situation had already been set; what was Song Zhenbao trying to stir up?
She glanced at the stair railing, which was somewhat old and even showed signs of cracking.
"I see now!"
Suddenly, it dawned on her that Wu Yuqian was not yet resigned. If she had just leaned on the railing earlier, perhaps the scene from their past life would have reappeared in the middle of the hall.
She had died; Song Zhenbao rolled down the stairs—one dead, one injured. Who pushed whom? What happened in between? It would still be Song Zhenbao's word against hers, and it would all fall on one person!
It was troublesome because after bumping into Pearl Fish, her body had gained an unusual lethality. Thankfully, this natural reaction had protected her.
"Hey! Your ankle is really swollen; we should hurry and get you to the hospital!" a girl screamed.
Song Pearl recognized that shocked girl; although she couldn't remember her well, she was definitely one of those who witnessed the awkward scene between her and Qing Wenyu on the boat.
"What happened?"
The news quickly spread to the banquet outside, and Wu Qiang walked over with a concerned expression, his anxiety clearly visible on his face. Following him was someone unfamiliar, Song Pearl, who was once involved in a confrontation with President Jin.
Upon seeing that Wu Yuqian had only sprained his ankle, Wu Qiang visibly relaxed. "Let's hurry and get him to the hospital!" he said.
Wu Qiang glanced at Song Pearl, who understood that his gaze held only concern and no blame. However, to the others present, it seemed otherwise.
"Indeed, coming from a small place, with such a narrow mind. Fortunately, it didn't lead to a fatal incident!" An inappropriate whisper reached Song Pearl's ears.
"What's there to worry about? I don't see it as a big deal. Let Lan Lan and Mingyue take Yu Qian," President Jin said with a smile, trying to ease the situation. "Pearl must be scared! Quickly help her down; on this joyous day, we can't let her be startled!"
Wu Yuqian was soon helped into a car and taken to the hospital, while Song Pearl was supported down the stairs by two elegantly poised women.
"I didn't expect such an accident; it's all because this house is too old," one of the women said, trying to make conversation.
Despite this incident, the banquet did not lose its festive atmosphere. Although the women looked at Song Pearl with slightly unnatural expressions, the overall mood remained cheerful.
