Due to the long distance, the two of them hurried back shortly after the banquet ended. On the way back, the car moved smoothly, and neither of them spoke. Song Pearl thought Qing Wenyu would ask about the events of the banquet, but he did not. She felt a bit tired and leaned against her seat, unknowingly falling asleep.
She slept soundly and even had a long dream. In her dream, she returned to when she first started working. The factory was desolate, and as a newcomer, she was often challenged by her superiors. Wan Jiang was getting an injection in Hong Xinran's medical office when suddenly his face turned pale and his lips turned purple...
She transformed into a powerful being and swiftly raised her hand, grabbing the White Cat that was choking Wan Jiang by the neck.
"Look, there's a White Cat here; that's why he is showing symptoms of asphyxiation. The medicine you used is fine!" Song Pearl said to Hong Xinran while holding the cat.
However, Hong Xinran seemed not to hear her and focused on examining and caring for Wan Jiang with a tense expression.
"There's no need to be nervous; why don't you believe me?"
No one paid attention to Song Pearl. An ambulance arrived, and Wan Jiang was lifted onto it. In a daze, Song Pearl recalled that things were not like this; she had already caught the Cat Demon, and Wan Jiang should have been fine.
How could it have happened again?
Suddenly, a white figure appeared before her, accompanied by a voice filled with resentment.
"You blocked my path; I will take away the life of the person you care about most with the remaining power I have, making you regret for a lifetime..."
Song Pearl jolted awake, opening her eyes. The car played soothing music as it moved steadily forward. She relaxed her clenched fist and realized her hands were covered in sweat.
Why did she suddenly remember things from the past? Could it be that she was having another episode? Song Pearl shook her head and looked out the car window, seeing familiar street scenes. They had just arrived home.
After getting out of the car, she noticed that the road was wet. Qing Wenyu went to park the car while the slightly fatigued Song Pearl entered the living room first.
It was already evening, and the room was somewhat dim. She turned on the light and remembered that her in-laws would be moving out today.
Qing Wenyu came into the living room, casually sat on the sofa, and turned on the TV.
"Get me a glass of water!"
"Since you haven't eaten well at home, let's get some food ready!"
He took off his shoes and leaned back on the sofa.
Song Pearl glanced at Qing Wenyu. She didn't say anything. Although she often helped with chores at home, cooking was not her strong suit.
Because she wasn't picky, she could fill her stomach with leftovers. But it was clear that the gentleman waiting for his meal wouldn't eat that.
She opened the refrigerator and found plenty of noodle ingredients.
For dinner, something low in cholesterol would be best; how about some simple clear soup noodles? Easy and convenient.
Song Pearl went to the kitchen, rolled up her sleeves, and started washing vegetables. Five minutes later, a bowl of seemingly delicious clear soup noodles was placed in front of Qing Wenyu.
Qing Wenyu tilted his head to take a look but didn't complain. He sat up, picked up his chopsticks, and began to eat. After a couple of bites, he seemed to remember something and looked up at Song Pearl. "Aren't you eating?"
"I'm not hungry yet," Song Pearl replied, pursing her lips as she sat beside him watching TV.
"Today, while driving, your relatives didn't force me to drink."
Qing Wenyu quickly finished the bowl of noodles, even drinking the broth clean.
"Wasn't it enough?" Seeing him eat so quickly, Song Pearl hurriedly asked. "Should I cook another bowl?"
"No need, I'm already full," Qing Wenyu smiled. "It tastes great."
Song Pearl's face turned slightly red, thinking that soon he wouldn't feel this way anymore.
She cleared the bowls and took them to the kitchen to wash and put away.
Qing Wenyu was half-lying on the sofa watching TV.
"I'll head upstairs first," Song Pearl said.
"Mm."
After a simple one-word response, only the sound of the television could be heard.
It turned out that marriage was just about unconditionally being someone else's caretaker. She really didn't understand why so many people liked to tie themselves up! Song Pearl tugged at the corner of her mouth, thinking that if one lived upstairs and the other downstairs, it would be spacious.
Married life was as dull as a glass of plain water; meals were not prepared with the same intention as Tian Yue's. Since both had jobs, they rarely had the chance to eat together at home.
When he came home late, she never asked whether he was socializing or out at bars.
When she came home late, he naturally wouldn't ask either. Of course, she always returned a bit earlier than him.
The only constant was a cup of warm Goat Milk every night, adding a touch of warmth to the empty air.
Most of the time, they slept in the same bed, but they never slept close together. Once, Song Pearl woke up to find her leg draped over his stomach and quickly pulled it away in embarrassment, as if she had done something shameful. For several nights afterward, she slept with trepidation.
Song Pearl felt lonelier than before; there were no conversations and no friends. The time after work became the hardest part of her day. Returning home to see the cold, empty house, she decided to wait at the corner for Qing Wenyu to come back.
Perhaps being a wife should be like this to deepen their feelings.
Sitting on the Flower Bed by the roadside, Song Pearl studied the green creature on her finger under the streetlight. This wasn't Orochimaru from the back mountain of Song Family Village; it was an Electronic Pet?
Which mechanism could make it grow larger? She pinched its head and moved it around; this thin green ring was like a rubber band, very resilient.
After pinching it for a while without making any progress, she steeled herself to take it apart for a closer look but ultimately couldn't bring herself to do it.
"Will the demon never appear again? Even in dreams!"
When Qing Wenyu was driving back, he saw a hunched figure with a thin silhouette under the streetlight by the roadside, head lowered. He did not stop and drove straight into the garage.
When he came out, he discovered that the woman was still sitting there, completely unaware that someone had returned home.
In this state, she probably wouldn't even know if someone moved away!
Suddenly, Qing Wenyu felt it was safer to keep a dog at home.
Song Pearl was still immersed in the mystery of demons when her phone rang unexpectedly, breaking the surrounding silence. She hurriedly picked up her phone and saw that it was Qing Wenyu calling. Just as she was about to answer, the call ended.
Pouting slightly, Song Pearl was about to call back when she suddenly heard a man's voice nearby. Only then did she notice a tall shadow cast on the ground. She looked up and saw his cold, expressionless, exquisite face.
It seemed that after getting married, he couldn't even be bothered to give her the most basic smile in public.
"Oh, you're back!" Song Pearl said casually, feeling that it wasn't warm enough. She added, "I specifically waited for you to come back."
"Mm." Qing Wenyu nodded, a hint of an unintentional smile at the corner of his eye. She waited for him to return but didn't even notice when he got home... Since they were married, perhaps things between them couldn't continue like this; something should happen.
Although she hadn't done anything, he should fulfill his duties as a husband and try to bridge their relationship.
Thinking this way, after taking a shower, they both went to bed peacefully without disturbing each other.
Song Pearl had already gotten used to waking up early as the mistress and caretaker of their household. She didn't expect that Qing Wenyu would also wake up early today. "Breakfast isn't ready yet; why don't you sleep a little longer?"
While washing rice and cooking porridge, Song Pearl casually asked.
"Aren't you tired of eating this every day?" Qing Wenyu turned off the heat and said, "Let's go out to eat today."
"The food outside is not nutritious, and your mom doesn't agree." Song Pearl turned on the stove again.
"What a good obedient child. If you don't go, I'll go by myself," Qing Wenyu said, revealing his true feelings for once. Song Pearl had no choice but to turn off the stove. "What should we eat?"
"Let's go to the roadside stall and have Douzhi You Tiao," he raised his eyebrows and suggested.
Hearing this, Song Pearl also felt that it had been a long time since she tasted Youtiao. It seemed that she hadn't eaten it since she learned that Youtiao was mixed with laundry detergent.
"Shall we eat at the Resort?" Song Pearl suggested. "It's hygienic there."
"Aren't you tired of eating at the Resort yet? Let's go to the roadside stall in front," Qing Wenyu insisted.
Song Pearl pouted, and in the end, they sat down at a relatively clean roadside stall, each ordering two Youtiao and a bowl of Douzhi. After finishing her meal, Song Pearl noticed that Qing Wenyu still had more than half of his bowl left.
"If we have to eat, we should finish it!" Song Pearl looked at him.
"I'm full; I just wanted to experience the atmosphere of eating at this time," Qing Wenyu elegantly wiped his mouth. "You probably rarely got to eat this back then, right?" he asked.
"I can't remember," Song Pearl replied as she stood up.
"I'll take you to work," Qing Wenyu offered politely.
Song Pearl looked at him strangely. "I want to go home and take a look."
"Home?"
"Yeah, back to my parents' house."
Since Song Pearl switched identities with Song Zhenbao, Song Shiting and his wife felt ashamed and wanted to resign from their jobs at the Ecological Aquaculture Farm. Despite Song Pearl's repeated pleas for them to choose freely, the couple ended up guarding near the Fish Pond, collecting tickets and feeding the fish. However, they always avoided Song Pearl, and every time they met, it was somewhat awkward.
Song Pearl has calmed down and feels that she should go home for a visit.
"Should I take you there?"
"No need, I can take a taxi myself," Song Pearl refused without a second thought.
Qing Wenyu did not insist further.
Song Pearl wandered around the mall, bought some things, and headed to a familiar place. The courtyard here had been generously given to Song Shiting by Wu Qiang as a way to repay them for raising his daughter.
Song Pearl thought that since the person was gone, even if Wu Qiang had made mistakes, he should have made amends by now.
She struggled to open the door with her large bag in hand. Just as she managed to free one hand to get the key, the door suddenly swung open, and a cold-faced Song Zhenbao rushed out.
"Wu Yuqian, you're back?" Song Pearl said.
This time, Wu Yuqian did not give her a sweet smile; it was clear that there had been an argument. She shot a fierce glare at Song Pearl and ran off.
Liu Cuiying chased after her and, upon seeing Song Pearl, forced a smile. "Pearl, you're here! Come on in, why are you carrying so much? You look like an outsider!"
Song Shiting also came out to greet her. He remained kind and gentle, showing no signs of being upset. (To be continued...)
