"This guy hasn't moved for a long time. Could it be that this Electronic Pet has run out of battery?"
Song Pearl shook her head and smiled. How could she believe Zhang Wan's words? Although only a few months had passed, it felt like this somewhat unreliable boy had disappeared for a long time.
She had never brought up the topic of Wan with Wu Qiang, and she didn't expect that soon she would encounter this boy whom she regarded as a brother once again.
Standing by the window, Song Pearl stared expressionlessly at the scenery outside. The view was excellent; she could see the entire city's landscape without stepping outside.
Only now did she realize that Qing Wenyu hadn't come here just to accompany her for leisure; he had merely brought her along while discussing business to help her relax.
"Thank you for considering me so thoughtfully," she said, her polite smile appearing somewhat distant as she watched him leave the luxurious suite with his assistant, carrying a briefcase.
He smiled back, seemingly gentle and considerate, and softly instructed, "I will finish my business as soon as possible and come back to keep you company. You can go out for a stroll first; take enough money and avoid places that are too deserted."
Feeling a bit tired from standing by the window, Song Pearl decided to go out for a tour. She felt she had no sense of aesthetics; any scenery seemed plain in her eyes, and she had never experienced the feeling of being overwhelmed by beauty.
As she reached the door, before she could wave, a green taxi stopped right in front of her. Song Pearl opened the car door and couldn't help but praise the city's service—cars would arrive just as she stepped out. She hoped that Resort would reach such a level in the future.
However, just as she opened the door and hadn't yet lifted her leg to get in, someone in casual attire jumped into the car first and then reached out to pull her in as well.
"Hey, you..." Song Pearl only managed to see who had pulled her into the car after sitting down. The person was grinning widely at her. "This is my taxi; what a coincidence! I didn't expect to see you here!"
Seeing those starry eyes, Song Pearl momentarily lost her composure. Perhaps it was because they were too close; she leaned back slightly and looked closely at the other person.
Fair skin, delicate features, and a mischievous smile...
"There's no need to look, I'm just a stubborn..." The other person naturally wrapped an arm around Song Pearl's shoulder, making a familiar gesture. "I just arrived and ran into you; we really are fated to meet!"
Song Pearl shrugged off the person's hand; they weren't that close yet!
"Did you come here alone for vacation?" the person asked.
"No, my husband is with me," Song Pearl replied quietly, keeping her gaze forward.
"Your husband? You're married? Is it Qing Wenyu? Where is he? You clearly came alone!" After a series of questions, the person exaggeratedly looked around.
"He has a business deal to discuss, so I came to scout the place first," Song Pearl shot him a glance.
The person laughed at Song Pearl's words. "With that kind of excuse, people who don't know the truth might think you two are some kind of bandits!"
"Haven't you figured out where to go yet? How about I be your tour guide and show you around?" the person said enthusiastically.
"Are you familiar with this place?" Song Pearl asked.
"Not really, it's my first time here," the person smirked. "But I'm always friendly wherever I go; I won't get lost and don't need a guide."
"Look at that place ahead!" The person pointed to a tall tower. "That's the legendary Demon Lock Tower, but it doesn't go by that name anymore. It has a very trendy name now: Soya Tower. It sounds quite cosmopolitan and fits this Tourist City perfectly."
At the person's signal, the driver stopped the car. Song Pearl habitually took out money to pay but didn't notice that the person didn't even intend to reach for their wallet.
"The view from the second floor is nice, and there's a leisure viewing area. Let's go there." The person naturally nudged Song Pearl at her waist and led her up to the second floor.
Song Pearl looked around and noticed many rooms upstairs, as if she were in a distant era, with each room holding its own story.
A faint fragrance wafted through the air. Song Pearl followed the scent and discovered a room filled with Wine Jars, seemingly a place dedicated to brewing wine.
"It smells so good!" She inhaled deeply and unconsciously licked her lips.
She had a natural fondness for wine; drinking it was as easy as drinking water, and she never got drunk.
"Do you want to drink some wine? The wine here is very strong; just smelling it can make an ordinary person faint. They say the wine in this room has been aged for many years. Even the most devoted alcoholics wouldn’t dare to steal a drink from here..."
"Really?" Song Pearl raised her gaze, noticing that the jars of wine on the ground were sealed with oil paper, wrapped tightly, yet a rich aroma escaped. Nearby, some tourists paused at a distance, but no one approached this room.
"Are you brave enough to drink from one of the jars?" Wán raised an eyebrow at Song Pearl.
"What’s there to be afraid of? How can I not taste free wine? It’s just..." She wrinkled her nose. "There are no tables or chairs provided for drinking; do we have to sit on the floor?"
"Dear guest, there’s a private room next door." Zhang Wan smiled warmly, bending down to pick up a jar of wine and walked to the adjacent room, kicking open a closed door.
The room was elegantly decorated with a hint of antiquity. The two sat by the window, and as Wán opened the wine, Song Pearl smiled and looked down.
On the green grass outside, there were quite a few couples walking together. Song Pearl’s eyes inadvertently caught sight of a familiar figure. Her smile faltered slightly, and she felt an inexplicable sense of loss.
Wán poured the wine into two large black bowls placed on the table.
"Perhaps it has been many years since anyone came here to drink!"
He noticed that Song Pearl's attention was drawn to the scenery downstairs. As she gazed, the corners of her mouth twitched slightly.
"What a perfect couple! That person seems to be Qing Wenyu? Did you really marry him?" he raised his eyebrows and asked.
Song Pearl nodded.
"Isn't that Wu Yuqian beside him? Your Treasure sister." It was not a question, but a confirmation.
"They might have business to discuss," Song Pearl withdrew her gaze and stopped looking downstairs.
"Indeed, discussing business in this romantic atmosphere of blue and white clouds is quite charming!" Zhang Wan picked up his bowl. "Drowning sorrows in wine only makes them deeper. Do you want to drink more?"
"Who am I sorrowful for?" Song Pearl looked at the wine in the bowl. For some reason, a sense of inexplicable boldness surged within her, and her mind flashed with the image of the two laughing and chatting naturally on the grass.
She easily drank a bowl of wine. It was so fragrant! Song Pearl wiped her mouth and wanted to pick up the Wine Jar for a second bowl, but she found she had no strength in her hand, and the scene before her began to blur, everything appearing doubled.
Even across from her, the usually friendly and mischievous smile of Wan seemed to turn somewhat indifferent as his eyes also appeared as two pairs.
"You’re drunk," he caught her hand as she reached for the Wine Jar. "This wine is strong; it would be a miracle if you haven’t collapsed after just one bowl!"
"Hehe, then why are you fine?" Song Pearl's face was flushed as she pointed at Wan with a grin.
"I haven't drunk this bowl yet!" Wan shrugged. Song Pearl looked at the bowl in front of him, and sure enough, it was still full.
"You drink too fast!" he said.
"I’m not drunk, what are you talking about?" Song Pearl slurred, never having been this disheveled before, though she was unaware of it at the moment.
"I’ve single-handedly drunk a whole table of people, did you know that? Haha!" She laughed recklessly.
"Alright, you’re impressive!" Wan gave Song Pearl a thumbs up. "But this isn't the time to show off. Since your husband is here, let him take you home! I don’t want to take advantage of anyone!"
With that, Wan supported Song Pearl as they left the room. As they exited, the door closed automatically behind them, and no one around saw where they had come from.
There was a nice bar upstairs, and many people got drunk there; it wasn't surprising for Song Pearl to be in such a state in front of tourists and staff.
After finishing a contract, Wu Yuqian suggested going for a walk, and Qing Wenyu didn’t refuse. He patiently listened to Wu Yuqian ramble on, maintaining just the right expression with a faint smile.
At that moment, a strong smell of alcohol wafted towards them.
Who has such poor taste to drink so much at a tourist spot?
Qing Wenyu, who usually kept his distance from others’ affairs, frowned and glanced over. In the distance, a slender woman was hunched over, vomiting towards Hua Platform, while a handsome man beside her gently patted her back.
The man's actions were tender, his expression filled with concern and unease.
What a loving couple... Qing Wenyu suddenly realized that the woman straightening up was none other than his not-so-long-married wife, and his expression darkened instantly.
"Hey, isn’t that Pearl?" Wu Yuqian also sat up from the ground, looking incredulously at the now pale-faced Qing Wenyu, adding, "That man beside her seems to be the one who disappeared with her that night..."
Qing Wenyu strode over to the affectionate pair, pushing Wan's hand aside and pulling the disheveled Song Pearl close to him. With a smile still lingering on his lips, he looked at the man across from him. "Are you my wife's friend? I haven't heard her mention having friends in this city!"
"Hello, my name is Zhang Yunye!" He casually extended his hand but, not receiving a warm response, he nonchalantly withdrew it.
"I've known Song Pearl for many years. Since we met here today, we had a few drinks, but I didn't expect her to have such a low tolerance! Since you're here, I'll leave her in your care. Take good care of her."
After saying this, he turned and strode away with confidence.
Song Pearl looked dazedly at the slender figure fading into the distance. Suddenly, a strange memory surged in her mind. She opened her arms and lunged forward, shouting, "Yunye, wait for me!"
Unfortunately, before she could take a step, her body weakened and she fell into a warm embrace.
"Who are you? I'm so sleepy!" Her eyelids could no longer be lifted; she completely lost consciousness, but her arms clung tightly to the person's neck without letting go.
With no choice, Qing Wenyu had to pick up Song Pearl and apologetically said to Wu Yuqian, "I can't drive like this. I'll take a taxi to send you back!"
"No need, I'll just have my driver come pick me up." Wu Yuqian smiled gently, revealing a pair of charming dimples. "Take good care of Pearl." (To be continued)
