Until Song Pearl was placed on the bed, the hands that were merely wrapped around his neck finally let go. The person sleeping soundly nestled against the soft blanket, finding a comfortable position, with the corners of her mouth curling up, sleeping very sweetly.
Qing Wenyu stared at the woman who was fast asleep. She had just clung to him, perhaps out of fear of being abandoned.
This woman rarely showed her true feelings; she had always been reserved. Yet today, she actually got drunk. If he hadn't encountered her earlier, what might have happened?
That Zhang Yunye was someone he had known for a long time. As far as he knew, Song Pearl had very few friends, and those who could be called friends must have a deep relationship with her.
Qing Wenyu's dark eyes turned sharp. He had never thought about how to love someone and had no intention of falling in love with anyone. Yet now he was married.
Being married meant taking responsibility.
He carefully helped her take off her clothes, the strong smell of alcohol on her making him frown.
"How much did she drink?" He shook his head and filled a basin with water to clean her up. After taking a shower himself, he lay down beside her and reached out to pull her into his arms.
Song Pearl slept soundly, enveloped by a sense of security she had never experienced before, allowing her to shed her fatigue and not think about anything at all.
When she woke up and opened her eyes, she found herself nestled in someone's embrace.
This intimate act was the first since their marriage. She shifted uncomfortably, clearly aware that the other person had not fully woken up yet. His hands tightened around her, bringing them even closer together, and she could even feel his heartbeat distinctly.
At this moment, it was still dark outside. She didn't realize that her restless movements had already awakened the man.
He frowned slightly in displeasure, having not slept well while holding this body. He had never experienced such intimate contact before, but when he pulled her into his arms, an impulse he had never felt before surged within him.
Although she looked quite slender, her body was soft. Holding her felt comfortable—so comfortable that he couldn't fall asleep no matter what—but he didn't dare to make any further moves.
When he finally became aware of his hazy consciousness, the woman in his arms was like a mischievous sprite, restlessly wriggling. He felt his body temperature rising slightly...
"Don't move," he whispered, his breath hot as he covered her somewhat cool lips with his mouth. She instinctively wanted to curl up, but at that moment, he pressed closer and parted her legs...
Hearing his heavy breathing, Song Pearl's mind went blank, her heart skipping a beat. When it was all over, she felt as if her entire body had fallen apart, and she closed her eyes, no longer daring to open them.
"The two of us finally did what a normal couple should do. What's there to be shy about?" Amid the chaos, he got out of bed and put on a robe. "Besides, it's not like it's the first time..."
Song Pearl's face felt hot. They had done the most intimate thing, yet she didn't feel that their distance had closed much. She got up to take a shower and returned to find that he was still there.
"Aren't you going to discuss business today?"
She finally spoke calmly; indeed, they were both experienced now, so there was nothing to be shy about.
"I've finished all the discussions. Today we can rest, and then we can head back home. Is there anywhere else you want to go? I can accompany you around."
He looked at her, his eyes showing little warmth or coldness.
If the heart is wandering, it drifts wherever it goes.
For some reason, this untimely thought popped into Song Pearl's mind. She felt that their lives were always like dew on floating duckweed, lacking any sense of security.
"No need. If you're done with your socializing, we can go back," Song Pearl said dryly.
In contrast to his indifference, she seemed even less romantic.
Qing Wenyu felt a slight sense of loss in his heart; he really wanted to make the relationship between the two of them more harmonious, no longer feeling as unfamiliar as it did now.
"After a tiring morning, let's find a place to eat first," Qing Wenyu suggested with a smile.
Song Pearl did not respond directly. Although her seemingly strong husband was actually quite delicate, he paid great attention to relaxation, health, and diet.
"I saw an introduction that there's a century-old shop in this city known for its nourishing porridge. How about we go have some porridge?" she proposed, remembering that he usually had porridge for breakfast at home but had neglected it since arriving here.
She did not notice that her life now revolved around him.
After a long car ride, they finally found the well-known high-end porridge shop. Song Pearl ordered a bowl of plain porridge, while Qing Wenyu ordered a bowl of ginger and lean meat porridge. After silently drinking their porridge, there was again a lull in their conversation.
The air was filled with nothing but strangeness.
Qing Wenyu took her hand and asked, "Do you want to change things up a bit?"
"Change things up?" Song Pearl asked, confused.
"A client gave me a card yesterday, and I just happened to use it," Qing Wenyu smiled as he pulled Song Pearl to hail a taxi.
Soon, the car stopped in front of a beautifully decorated shop.
The shop's sign featured several elegantly designed English letters. Song Pearl glanced at it but couldn't understand what it meant before Qing Wenyu wrapped his arm around her waist and pulled her inside.
"Stop looking around; you’ll make it seem like a country bumpkin coming to town," he said softly.
"I was originally a Country Bumpkin, did I embarrass you?" When her dignity was provoked, it was easy for her to reveal her temper.
"No, I am too." Qing Wenyu didn't seem angry, the corners of his mouth lifted in his usual signature smile.
The staff member at the store was a beautiful woman with fair skin and a plump face, exuding warmth. She smiled as she took the card handed over by Qing Wenyu. "Handsome and beautiful, please follow me."
"Please help her design a completely new image." Qing Wenyu pushed Song Pearl forward and spoke to a stylishly dressed staff member who approached.
"Don't worry, this lady is our Chief Stylist. I guarantee she'll package this sister so well that you won't recognize her." The staff member leading them said with a smile.
Qing Wenyu nodded and casually picked up a magazine, sitting down on the nearby sofa.
"This lady, your husband is really considerate." The stylist chatted with Song Pearl while doing her hair.
"Uh, yes!"
"You just got married not long ago, right?"
"Mm."
"How did you two meet? Did you pursue him or did he pursue you? You two seem quite mismatched..."
Song Pearl was somewhat at a loss for words. This stylist who couldn't hold a conversation would have probably been kicked out of the store long ago if she didn't have real skills.
She gave a slight smile.
The stylist also realized that his words were too direct, so he closed his mouth and focused on helping Song Pearl get ready.
From head to toe, Song Pearl, whose nails had been meticulously done, stood in front of Qing Wenyu, who was engrossed in a magazine. A glimmer of appreciation flashed in Qing Wenyu's eyes.
He generously offered a compliment.
"Indeed, she is a woman of charm who can manage both the home and the workplace, capable of fetching water and farming while also managing and earning money!"
He could be quite smooth-tongued!
Song Pearl smiled slightly, lowering her head in silence.
The shop assistant watched the two leave.
"Are those two rich or poor?" a girl standing at the bar asked.
A woman with lingering charm replied while looking at the computer screen, "In my experience, that man's demeanor resembles that of a wealthy young master, and he also has some traits of a successful person. As for that woman, it's hard to say; look at her pale complexion. Even if she has money, she's just a nouveau riche!"
"Manager, that gold card they used wasn't one we gave out, was it?"
"It was one we gave out. This month we only sent out one card, but it wasn't given to them; it was given to Jin Mai's general manager, Wu Yuqian. Who would have thought they wouldn't care for it!" the manager replied.
"Once they received the card, they would definitely help us. If we could get a franchise under Jinmai Group's subsidiaries, our store would surely see a steady flow of income in the future."
"Hopefully, that's the case. It's really strange that I hired these well-known designers, yet we haven't developed many clients!"
The manager furrowed her brows and looked toward the store entrance. They had been open for a while, but the place remained quiet.
"I just took a photo of that stylist earlier. If we share her before-and-after photos, it will definitely attract a lot of customers..." said the person styling Song Pearl.
"Oh?" The manager's eyes lit up. "Aya, I didn't expect you to not only be good at styling but also have such a creative mind! Send me the photos to take a look!"
Song Pearl didn't expect that the topic about her would continue after she left. At that moment, she was strolling down the street with Qing Wenyu.
"This city holds a charity fundraising banquet every year, inviting kind-hearted people from all over the country to participate. I've never done any charitable work before, but suddenly I want to do something good. Shall we go together later?"
He seemed to be seeking her opinion.
"So you want me to dress up just to attend the charity event?" Song Pearl glanced at Qing Wenyu. "I rarely do charitable deeds. Although I have compassion, still..."
"I can tell. With such a quiet place, how could anyone have a compassionate heart?"
Reluctantly, Song Pearl agreed to go.
"Alright, attending is... Are you going to the charity banquet for charity? Or is it just to meet more business peers?"
"You saw right through me!" He grasped her hand.
"Aren't you afraid of feeling out of place? Those wealthy tycoons and entrepreneurs arrive in luxury cars, and here we are taking a taxi to enter with them?"
"Why take a taxi?" Qing Wenyu smiled, a hint of playfulness at the corners of his mouth. "Let's just walk over; you see, it's that big hotel across the street."
Qing Wenyu pointed to the opposite side.
At that moment, luxury cars began to arrive, and many well-dressed people were coming in and out of the hotel entrance.
It turns out this was all premeditated!
"How much money did you bring?" Song Pearl asked nervously as they reached the hotel entrance, linking her arm with Qing Wenyu's.
"Enough for this occasion. Are we supposed to come empty-handed and wait for others to donate to us?" Qing Wenyu said, confidently leading Song Pearl into the hotel lobby and finding a place to sit down.
"Isn't Hongqing short on funds?" Song Pearl asked anxiously.
"There is still money for charity; stop acting so self-deprecating; it doesn't suit your status!" Qing Wenyu smiled, trying to help Song Pearl relax.
As they were whispering to each other, a voice came from behind: "Pearl, you look stunning today! I almost didn't recognize you. I saw you drunk yesterday and thought you wouldn't make it today!"
Song Pearl turned around to see Wu Yuqian, dressed elegantly and smiling brightly, sitting down beside her. (To be continued.)
