"I will not get a divorce." Qing Wenyu looked at the photo expressionlessly, and after a long silence, he finally raised his head to look at Qing Yuansheng. "The photo cannot be taken at face value; I believe Song Pearl."
"You, you..."
Qing Yuansheng pointed at Qing Wenyu but couldn't find the words.
It was only now that he realized his son was utterly stubborn. He lived according to his own arrangements, accepting only what was planned and refusing any changes.
He had carefully considered and chosen a suitable match for his son, hoping to find a family with a strong career and assets that would be a good match. Who would have thought that in the end, he misjudged the situation and was outsmarted by Wu Qiang?
He could only blame Wu Qiang; his luck was truly terrible!
Qing Yuansheng's chest heaved as he glared at Tian Yue beside him. After serving everyone tea, she sat there calmly, her face serene and gentle, showing none of his agitation.
Such matters were best handled by the mother-in-law. Throughout history, what family disputes weren't caused by disharmony between mothers-in-law and daughters-in-law?
When his son had to choose between his wife and mother, he would undoubtedly side with Tian Yue.
Unfortunately, Tian Yue did not stand with him; she was determined to be a kind and gentle mother-in-law.
"The finance department showed me a recent cash flow report. Is it true that Wu Qiang covered the debt? Did you provide the funds?" Qing Yuansheng didn't want to let anger affect his health; he took a deep breath and asked about Qing Wenyu's company accounts.
"No," Qing Wenyu replied calmly. "Our Hongqing doesn't have that much spare capital. Even if I wanted to help, I wouldn't be able to. Don't you think highly of my father-in-law? A starving camel is bigger than a horse; he just used my name as his son-in-law to cover Jin Mai's losses. Please don't spread this around."
Qing Yuansheng's eyes were fixed on Qing Wenyu. This kid was probably telling the truth. That large sum of money could indeed be pulled from Hongqing, but letting it slip away right under his nose was absolutely impossible.
He had also asked finance; there were no unidentified funds recently.
Song Pearl lowered her head, trying to minimize her presence. Qing Wenyu really did try his best to treat her well, even deceiving his family. Wasn't that very unfilial?
But when he saw those photos, didn't he feel angry?
"Forget it; I've embarrassed myself enough!" Qing Yuansheng picked up the teacup on the table and took several big gulps of tea. "Song Pearl, are you intentionally trying to drive me crazy?"
No one responded to him.
He put down his cup, stood up, and before leaving the room, he turned back to Song Pearl, saying, "The Song family is our Qing family's nemesis! Since you are Wu Qiang's daughter, hurry up and change your name at the police station!"
After finishing his words, he picked up his coat and walked out the door.
After Qing Yuansheng left, Tian Yue, who had been silent, smiled slightly and walked over to sit beside Song Pearl. She took her hand and said earnestly, "Pearl, don't think too much about it..."
Song Pearl looked up at her, giving Tian Yue a grateful glance. This mother-in-law didn't like to talk much, but her attitude was already a great comfort to Song Pearl.
With a "meow," a completely white cat suddenly dashed out from somewhere, landing its front paws on the photos on the coffee table. It then leaped onto the sofa where Qing Wenyu sat silently, knocking over a purple clay cup on the table. Several photos were soaked in spilled tea.
"Even the cat doesn't believe this is real!" Tian Yue smiled as she began to tidy up the mess on the coffee table.
Qing Wenyu's gaze fell on the pile of photos for a moment. Although they were wet, the images were still clear. A cold glint rose in his eyes as he waved away the cat.
"Give all of these to me!" Qing Wenyu bent down to gather the photos from the coffee table, clutching them in his hand as he walked toward their shared bedroom.
"He's angry!" Tian Yue watched Qing Wenyu's back as he entered the bedroom and gave Song Pearl a comforting look. "In a marriage, honesty and mutual trust are most important. If you haven't done anything wrong to him, there's no need to feel guilty. Just be clear about it."
Song Pearl smiled lightly. "I know, thank you, Mom."
"Alright, you go back to your room now. Stay here tonight; don’t go back to the new house." Tian Yue patted Song Pearl's hand and continued to clean up the mess made by the cat.
The atmosphere had become awkward; even with her thick skin, Song Pearl couldn't continue to stay in front of Tian Yue and Qing Yuansheng.
She picked up her bag from the side and walked to the yard, saying to Tian Yue, "Mom, I still have some things to do; I’ll head back first."
"Aren't you staying here?" Although Tian Yue felt a bit disappointed, she understood Song Pearl well. "Wait a moment; I'll call Wen Yu to go with you!"
Tian Yue turned around and shouted loudly into the room, "Wen Yu, you two should go home tonight; don’t stay here."
She shouted for a long time but didn't hear the sound of the door opening, and Qing Wenyu didn't come out either.
"Wait a moment, I'll go call him," Tian Yue said as she let go of Song Pearl's hand and quickly returned to the room. After a short while, Qing Wenyu was pushed out of the room by Tian Yue.
"Then I won't keep you any longer, hurry back and rest!" Tian Yue said with a smile as she watched Qing Wenyu and Song Pearl get into the car, waving goodbye as the vehicle drove away.
The two of them didn't speak at all on the way home until they entered the house.
Qing Wenyu walked towards the liquor cabinet in the living room with an unhappy expression, took out two bottles of alcohol, and handed one to Song Pearl. "Do you like to drink? Come drink with me this time!"
Song Pearl took the bottle and set it aside; she had never drunk alcohol at home.
"I'm going to rest."
She hurried upstairs, and when Qing Wenyu reached out to pull her arm, he surprisingly couldn't catch her. He leaned against the staircase, losing interest in drinking, but the frustration in his heart didn't fade away.
After taking a shower, Song Pearl lay on the bed for a while but couldn't fall asleep no matter what. She picked up a book and flipped through it aimlessly.
Just when her eyelids felt heavy, there was a noise at the bedroom door, and a strong smell of alcohol wafted in as Qing Wenyu walked into the room step by step with a bottle in hand.
He was actually a drunkard.
Song Pearl sat up abruptly. "How much have you drunk? What are you going to do?"
"What am I going to do? Of course, I'm going to drink!" Qing Wenyu said with a flushed face and a dreamy smile. "Song Pearl, don't you want something?"
Song Pearl bit her lip and looked at Qing Wenyu sitting by the bed; she didn't want to explain anything and didn't feel the need to. Seeing Qing Wenyu like this left her at a loss.
He had never acted this way before.
"You should go take a shower! I'll get you some Goat Milk."
Song Pearl got out of bed and put on her slippers. She took the wine bottle from Qing Wenyu's hand and went out of the bedroom.
At the stairway, several wine bottles were haphazardly lying around. Song Pearl knelt down to pick them up and put them away before going to get Goat Milk.
Goat Milk was delivered fresh at regular intervals, but after the two got married, their meal schedule became irregular, leading to a lot of waste most of the time.
When she returned to the bedroom with the prepared Goat Milk, she found Qing Wenyu already lying in bed, asleep.
"Hey," Song Pearl nudged him. Qing Wenyu rolled over, taking up almost the entire bed. "Get up and drink the Goat Milk."
She said softly.
He responded with nothing but his deep, heavy breathing.
Song Pearl looked at the warm milk in the cup, took off her shoes, climbed into bed, and lifted Qing Wenyu's body to lean against her. She fed him a cup of Goat Milk.
It was hard-earned warmth; it couldn't go to waste.
Under the light, Qing Wenyu's face was flushed and cute like a well-behaved baby. Although his eyes were closed, not a drop of milk was spilled. After finishing, he even licked his lips.
Song Pearl set down the cup, took off his clothes, pushed him toward the edge of the bed, and carefully lay down on her side of the bed. However, she found it difficult to fall asleep.
As she turned over again, a pair of hands wrapped around her waist, pulling her into a warm embrace. The heat that enveloped her made her face flush.
It turned out that this guy was neither drunk nor asleep...
When morning came, neither of them mentioned what had happened the previous night, as if nothing had occurred.
"Do you still have to go to work today? I'll give you a ride!" Qing Wenyu's car stopped at the door as Song Pearl opened the door and got in.
Qing Wenyu looked in a great mood. He turned to look at her and said, "After the matter with the Resort is settled, you shouldn't go to work anymore. Just take some time to rest at home."
"Not going to work?" Song Pearl stared at the bustling crowd outside the car window. "Look at these hurried people; how many of them are enjoying a leisurely life at home? They're all busy struggling for survival. If I'm not working, how can I pay you back?"
"Do you really have to be so clear about it? We are husband and wife; you should do what a wife is supposed to do. I can support you," Qing Wenyu's voice was a bit hoarse. "You foolish woman, going out to work will only cause me more trouble."
"Maybe that person isn't targeting me; perhaps she's doing it for you?" Song Pearl felt more relaxed as she glanced at Qing Wenyu's cold profile. "Maybe if I divorced you, everything would be peaceful. That person just wants us to get divorced."
"Divorce?" Qing Wenyu narrowed his eyes and shot a sidelong glance at Song Pearl. "This is the second time you've brought up divorce in front of me. Do you really want to get divorced? Or do you have feelings for that Jin Weicheng?"
"What do you think I have that would make someone like me?" Song Pearl pouted. "I didn't receive any love letters or chocolates until I was twenty-four. Now that I'm married, I'm suddenly in demand. Is it because the world is going downhill? Or is it that ugly women are more attractive than beautiful girls these days?"
"Don't look down on yourself; you're not that bad," Qing Wenyu said, reaching out to pat Song Pearl's leg. Although it wasn't their first intimate contact, Song Pearl still felt a burning sensation where he touched her.
"I still stand by what I said: since we're married, we won't get divorced," Qing Wenyu reiterated slowly.
As long as you're married to me, regardless of our feelings, whether you want it or not, I won't allow a divorce. This sounded like a threat! This man is truly a pervert! (To be continued...)
