"Do you want to hear my opinion?" Song Pearl raised an eyebrow and sneered, "Well, I can clearly tell you that your Jin Mai's investment in this area is purely a case of having money with nowhere to spend... it's completely unreasonable!"
After Song Pearl's words, Jin Weicheng's smile froze on his face. He hadn't expected that Song Pearl had already seen through it all; what was the point of him continuing to put on a facade?
However, Wu Qiang found himself laughing at Song Pearl's remarks.
Given Jin Zhu's cautious nature, he wouldn't have come all this way to invest for no reason, whether it was for tourism development or real estate.
Jin Weicheng thought he was being clever, unaware that Song Pearl didn't take him seriously at all.
"I'm not going to arrange your accommodation," Song Pearl said as she stood up, looking calmly at Jin Weicheng. "The security at the Resort villas isn't great right now. If something happens to you in the middle of the night, I can't take responsibility."
"You..." Jin Weicheng stared wide-eyed and speechless. Was Song Pearl always this direct?
"We have a place to stay! Thank you for your concern!" Jin Weicheng managed to suppress his anger and smiled faintly, wiping his hands with a napkin. He called out to Song Pearl's back, "Let's have a drink together next time!"
Song Pearl didn't want to engage with Jin Weicheng, the flirtatious rogue who liked to get hands-on. If she were photographed again like last time, even if she didn't care about others' gossip, she would still have to consider Qing Wenyu's family's feelings.
Moreover, last time Qing Yuansheng had already said some unpleasant things. They didn't want to offend Jin Weicheng and would only put pressure on her.
Fortunately, Wang Ziyan came over today. Otherwise, she had no intention of putting on this facade or treating these people to a meal! Treating them with a stick would be more appropriate!
As Song Pearl walked along the gravel path, the protruding stones massaged her feet comfortably, giving her time to talk with Wang Ziyan.
"Ziyan, what brings you here? How did you end up with Jin Weicheng and his group?"
"I didn't come with them; I just ran into them at your place," Wang Ziyan replied with a smile. "I'm here to inspect your Ecological Aquaculture Farm. On the way here, I learned that this famous Ecological Aquaculture Farm is run by you. I remember you had a big Fish Pond at your home. So I came over and happened to find your uncle..."
She glanced at Wu Qiang, still feeling a bit puzzled. Wu Qiang was enjoying a leisurely stroll and hadn't noticed Wang Ziyan watching him.
"By the way, Dad, you asked me to come for chicken, but why is there not even a feather in sight?" Song Pearl looked at Wu Qiang and asked with a smile.
"Wasn't it the rooster you sent over this morning? She can kill chickens. I just asked her for help, but who knew that rooster would disappear without a trace!"
"I didn't send it, did you remember incorrectly?"
"If I didn't send it, then I didn't. Anyway, the chicken has run away; it probably went back to the back mountain at the Ecological Aquaculture Farm," Wu Qiang waved his hand. "It's not a big deal, just one chicken. Maybe someone else brought it."
He continued, "Is this really your classmate? Since you came all the way here, arrange a place for her to stay. You don't need to see me off; I can find my way."
"Got it," Song Pearl replied. Ever since Wu Qiang returned, he had become particularly talkative, almost like a nagging old man.
Song Pearl brought Wang Ziyan along and they walked with Wu Qiang to his house.
"There’s even my room here. It’s late; tonight, Ziyan and I will stay here," Song Pearl said as they reached the door.
"Great!" Wu Qiang was very happy to hear this. "Then I'll cook for you in the morning; don’t rush to leave," he reminded them.
Hearing this made Song Pearl's eyes a bit misty.
"Pearl, why is it just your dad at home? It seems like this room hasn't been lived in for a long time," Wang Ziyan observed as she looked around the room.
"I’m already married, so I don’t live here."
"You’re married?" Wang Ziyan showed a surprised expression. "How did that happen so fast? I don’t even have a boyfriend!"
"This place is full of people who marry early."
"Aren't you raising fish? Your dad wears glasses like an intellectual..." Wang Ziyan joked.
"This is a long story!" Song Pearl laughed.
The two chatted about private matters and began reminiscing about their school days, talking until late into the night.
Finally, Wang Ziyan yawned and fell silent, and Song Pearl also stopped talking, leaving the room in silence.
"Is your resort going to be transferred? What about the Ecological Aquaculture Farm?" Wang Ziyan asked again in the dark.
"Right now, I don't know. If you come to discuss a cooperation project, maybe it could give the Ecological Aquaculture Farm a chance to survive." Song Pearl turned over, her dark eyes gazing at the ceiling.
"Our research institute wants to use this as a breeding trial base for academic research. Initially, we thought the remote location would mean a low price, and cooperation should be straightforward. But from my observations, it seems that's not the case; your land seems quite sought after!"
"Yeah," Song Pearl replied, "this is indeed a prime piece of land. Since I graduated and returned, it's been on people's minds!"
"Being on people's minds means there's money to be made! As long as the land occupation compensation is sufficient, who cares about these things? No one in my hometown has gone there to develop it!"
Wang Ziyan was right, but some people from Song Family Village just couldn't see it that way. Was it because the compensation funds didn't meet their expectations?
A question flashed through Song Pearl's mind.
"Why don't you take me to visit your Ecological Aquaculture Farm?" Wang Ziyan said, closing her eyes.
However, Song Pearl couldn't sleep at all. She had an uneasy feeling, as if something was about to happen!
As soon as she got up the next morning, her phone rang incessantly. Glancing at the unfamiliar local number, Song Pearl pressed the answer button.
The news from the other end startled Song Pearl.
"You are Song Pearl, the person in charge of Jinshan Aquaculture Farm, right? Hurry over here... there's a snake that has bitten someone, and it might have escaped from your Ecological Aquaculture Farm. Please come quickly."
The caller provided an address before hanging up.
"What happened?" Wu Qiang asked as he placed a pot of egg soup on the dining table and saw Song Pearl looking around anxiously.
"Oh. A snake from the Ecological Aquaculture Farm has gone to County Town Park and bitten someone..." Song Pearl said while searching for any signs of the creature but found nothing.
Could it have been left at the hotel last night? Did it follow Jin Weicheng's car into town? That wasn't important. What worried her was if what went to town wasn't a creature but a real snake; that would be troublesome!
Song Pearl called out twice but found no trace of the creature. She hurriedly grabbed her things and prepared to leave.
"What are you in such a rush for? Eat first! You're not a doctor; even if someone got bitten over there, you can't solve anything by going. If the snake is from your Ecological Aquaculture Farm, you'll just have to cover some medical expenses... Besides, it's normal for parks to have snakes; don't zoos have them too? There are snakes in the fields as well!"
Wang Ziyan pulled Song Pearl. "Let's go over together later."
"Yes, yes, let's eat first." Wu Qiang hurriedly took a spoon to serve rice for the two of them. "There's not much good to eat, but these dishes are all completely unpolluted."
Once he sat down, he noticed that both girls had put down their bowls and left their seats, each having finished a bowl of egg soup.
"Ziyan and Pearl have similar temperaments; no wonder they are classmates!" he said with a smile as he looked at the two.
"Of course. Back then, Ziyan helped me a lot!" Song Pearl hurried to the door. Wang Ziyan's expression changed slightly upon hearing her words.
Years ago, she had made Song Pearl cheat and took the job that should have belonged to Song Pearl; it seemed she was unaware of this.
Song Pearl took Wang Ziyan to the intersection and got into a tricycle. Although there were not many wildlife left at the Ecological Aquaculture Farm, the green vegetables were still thriving. Many buyers came here, so the bus that ran every ten minutes to the Ecological Aquaculture Farm never stopped.
"Where is it?" Wang Ziyan asked.
"It's next to the Rockery in Linsui Park," Song Pearl said as she hailed a tricycle for both of them. Although the city was promoting against using tricycles for taxis, they were convenient, arriving quickly without worrying about traffic jams.
"Wait a minute!" Wang Ziyan pondered for a moment and said, "Who gets bitten by a snake and stays by the Rockery in the park instead of going to the hospital?"
"I don't really believe it either; we'll know when we get there," Song Pearl said tightly pursing her lips as she looked at the busy road ahead, recalling that she had never been to Linsui Park. She then told the tricycle driver, "Please take us directly to the Rockery in Linsui Park!"
There weren't many buildings in Linsui Park, and there shouldn't be too many rockeries either; otherwise, they wouldn't only report one Rockery address.
"The Rockery in the park?" The taxi driver glanced at Song Pearl through the rearview mirror and said, "That area isn't very safe, especially near the Rockery; it's known for frequent homicides. If you're going there at night, I really wouldn't dare to take you!"
"Really?" Wang Ziyan felt goosebumps rise on her skin. "Is security that bad around here?"
"It's not that security is bad; it's just that the area around the park's Rockery is chaotic!" the taxi driver explained.
The tricycle turned into the back entrance of the park. By this time, morning exercisers had left, and there weren't many visitors yet; the park was particularly quiet.
The vehicle stopped beside a Rockery, where a thick layer of sycamore leaves had fallen on the ground beneath it, and there were no people in sight around.
The Tricycle Driver took the money and leaned out to ask, "Do you want me to wait here for a while?"
"That works," Song Pearl nodded. "I'll go check the Rockery."
Wang Ziyan pulled her back. "It's obvious there's no one here. Maybe it's someone's prank! Why don't you call that number again and ask?"
Song Pearl thought she had a point and took out her phone to dial the number she had just called.
"We're at the Rockery, but there's no one here, and we haven't seen any snakes. Did you all go to the hospital?" she hurriedly asked when the call connected.
"If you go to the top of the mountain, you'll see people. Everyone is gathered at the top!" The voice on the other end was clear, and both Wang Ziyan and the Tricycle Driver heard it.
"It seems like they're really at the top!" The Tricycle Driver also got down to see what was happening.
"You all wait here; I'm going up to take a look." Song Pearl climbed up the moss-covered Rockery toward the summit.
The Tricycle Driver shouted from behind, "There's a path over there; it's not safe to go this way..." After he finished shouting, he touched his ear and glanced at Wang Ziyan, asking, "Is this person part cat? She's so fast!" (To be continued...)
