Hiding behind the doorpost, Tie Zhu's eyes darted around as he slowly recalled the position of the Japanese Soldier who had just fired.
At the ten o'clock direction on the second floor, a Kuomintang Soldier's lifeless body hung helplessly at the window.
"So that was who the Japanese Soldier was aiming at just now! If it weren't for him, I might have already been dead. The Japanese Soldier really is accurate with his shots!"
Tie Zhu touched his gun, feeling a wave of emotion as he realized he had narrowly escaped death twice in such a short time.
After hearing the gunfire, two Nationalist Army soldiers quickened their pace and slowly approached the source of the sound.
The two Japanese Soldiers were not far from the pursuing Kuomintang Soldier and soon discovered the hiding spot of the Japanese Soldiers.
"Up ahead, hiding around that corner!"
The two exchanged glances, took out a grenade, and nodded to each other, preparing to charge forward.
Working in perfect harmony, one grenade was thrown while another Kuomintang Soldier immediately dashed out from the side, taking cover in an open area.
"Boom!"
The grenade exploded, sending dust flying and obstructing everyone's view.
"Go!"
The two Kuomintang Soldiers charged out from both sides and quickly surrounded the hiding spot of the Japanese Soldiers.
A wounded Japanese Soldier leaned against the wall, clutching his weapon tightly with both hands, intently watching the corner beside him.
The footsteps grew closer and closer, now just within reach.
"Ah!"
The Japanese Soldier shouted, using all his strength to climb up from the ground, wanting to take the initiative.
The two nearby Kuomintang Soldiers widened their eyes in surprise. The Japanese Soldier's actions were unexpected, leaving them somewhat at a loss, staring blankly at the fierce-looking Japanese Soldier.
A bullet shot out from a distance, passing between the two of them. The tearing sensation caused by the air friction made the two Kuomintang Soldiers feel a slight pain.
"Thud!"
The sound of a bullet hitting flesh came through as it accurately struck the Japanese Soldier's head, splattering blood everywhere. He fell down with an expression of unwillingness and anger.
The two Kuomintang Soldiers exchanged relieved glances, patted each other on the shoulder, and gave a thumbs-up towards their comrades behind them.
Behind them, Hu Lian and the Second Battalion Commander signaled for them to continue charging.
Not far ahead, Tie Zhu was engaged with the last Japanese Soldier. After a day of fighting, Tie Zhu had improved rapidly; he had memorized much of the knowledge learned during training, and his tactical movements were very standard.
The Japanese Soldier had already heard the explosions coming from behind and realized he had no way out. Gritting his teeth, he attached a bayonet to his rifle and jumped out.
Now he was alone, with enemies in front and pursuers behind. Even if Amaterasu came, he could not be saved; he could only choose to fight back, taking down one enemy if possible.
The Japanese Soldier was very close to Tie Zhu's hiding spot, only a few meters away. With just a couple of steps, they would meet.
Tie Zhu turned around to find another hiding spot. Just as he started moving, he saw a Japanese Soldier charging towards him. In a panic, he stepped back two paces to maintain some distance.
His bayonet remained attached to his rifle; now they were less than a meter apart, each probing with their weapons.
Japanese Soldier Is there a bullet in the gun? Tie Zhu I don't know, but his gun has bullets.
Japanese Soldier Stared intently at Tie Zhu, circling around him, slowly pulling the bolt to eject all the bullets from the chamber, wanting to engage Tie Zhu in close combat.
Tie Zhu looked at Japanese Soldier with some confusion, but his eyes lit up when he saw him slowly ejecting the bullets from his gun.
Japanese Moved very seriously, as if performing a solemn ritual. After emptying the chamber of bullets, he pointed the gun at Tie Zhu, signaling that it was his turn.
Tie Zhu grinned and slowly raised the muzzle of his gun slightly, pretending to want to eject the bullets.
When the muzzle was lowered to about the same height as Japanese, Tie Zhu decisively pulled the trigger.
With a gunshot, Japanese Soldier fell slowly with disbelief and anger in his eyes, dropping his gun and clutching his chest where Tie Zhu had shot him through!
"You’re foolish; I’m not. Why would I fight with a Bayonet when I have bullets? I'm not crazy!"
Tie Zhu mocked the corpse of Japanese Soldier, bent down to check the weapon on the ground, opened the magazine, and saw a bullet quietly lying in the chamber. Iron Bull took the gun and casually fired a shot into the distance; indeed, it was loaded!
"Little Devils are quite cunning; they still want to play tricks!"
Tie Zhu tossed the gun aside, spat on the corpse, cursed a couple of times, and then happily moved forward.
"Tie Zhu, why are you down here? Are you healed?"
Just after taking two steps forward, Tie Zhu heard Commander's voice.
Tie Zhu looked up and saw Commander and a group of people not far away. He quickly walked over: "That little injury is nothing; I'm fine now. I just killed two devils; I'm all good!"
Tie Zhu finished speaking and patted his shoulder, indicating that he was fine and his injury had healed!
Hu Lian walked over and patted Tie Zhu's head: "Not bad, not bad, great job! Did you just engage in hand-to-hand combat with that enemy? I saw that enemy standing there for a long time. I was going to shoot, but when I saw you, I was afraid my gunfire would startle you and distract you, so I didn't shoot!"
"Yeah, that was just a foolish enemy trying to trick me into a melee while still having a bullet in his gun. Who do you think I am, Tie Zhu? I saw through his little trick at a glance and took him down with one shot!"
After Tie Zhu finished speaking, he grinned, feeling quite satisfied with himself for outsmarting the enemy.
"Well done! Second Battalion Commander, your battalion has produced quite a few good soldiers. Come on, Tie Zhu, tell the Battalion Commander how many enemies you killed today!"
"Report to Battalion Commander, One Team, Second Squad soldier Zhao Tiezhu reports that today I killed a total of 10 enemies!"
The Second Battalion Commander was clearly taken aback by Tie Zhu's words: "Tie Zhu, you're not pulling my leg, are you? You killed ten enemies? The Commander is here; if you falsely report military achievements, you'll be in trouble!"
Just as Tie Zhu was about to explain, Hu Lian patted the Second Battalion Commander's shoulder: "Don't doubt it. He just killed two right now. Earlier in that building—he killed seven in that building. I saw it with my own eyes. During the charge today, he killed one more. Ten enemies in total; aside from the ones this morning that I didn't see, the rest were all witnessed by me. Where's the false report?"
Tie Zhu felt a bit embarrassed by the praise from the Commander and stood quietly to the side, scratching his head.
"Alright, let's head back. There probably aren't many enemies left in town. We'll take another look later. For now, let's go back for lunch; we've been hungry all day!"
After Hu Lian finished speaking, he led the way toward the temporary command post not far away.
Tie Zhu looked around at the soldiers and suddenly had a bad feeling; Shunliu Brother was not there!
