Jiang Yizhou has somewhat come to like his current job. Facing students who have basically never interacted with computers and the Internet, he finds it quite easy to manage.
With a salary higher than what he earned on construction sites and doing lighter work, if he weren't a person from the future, he might have continued down this path, expanding this Training Class into a training school alongside Boss Sun, establishing a company to gain some shares, and enjoying an executive salary...
"Teacher Jiang, can you take a look at why this isn't working? I've clearly followed all the steps!" This was an unemployed girl, one of the students Jiang Yizhou found particularly challenging.
So, what's the difference between a female driver and a male driver?
The difference lies in that female drivers can cause accidents while being fully aware, whereas male drivers mostly cause accidents when they are either not sober or not paying attention. In fact, the rate of accidents caused by male drivers is higher than that of female drivers, but because female drivers' accidents tend to be seen as preventable, they are often viewed with more caution.
This female student was similar; Jiang Yizhou was trying hard to explain things to her while she was making an effort to listen, yet they just couldn't figure out what the problem was. Was it that the signal between Earth and Zhi Yuan Star wasn't connecting properly? She just couldn't learn.
He felt anxious for her; she should really stop wasting money here. It not only delayed the Training Class's schedule but also wasted her own time—a lose-lose situation!
"Wu, can you help explain it to her? I can't step away right now!" Jiang Yizhou glanced around the female student's vicinity and pointed to someone who had finished early and was fiddling with things, asking him to assist her.
...
"How does it feel?" Sun Yuliang sat comfortably in his office chair, looking at Jiang Yizhou as he walked in.
"It feels like there are too many broad questions being asked. A lot of things I think are quite normal; they manage to come up with a bunch of questions. I'm not really tired though!" Jiang Yizhou sat on the sofa chair, poured himself a glass of water, and gulped it down. "I'm really parched!"
"That's pretty good; it should help you a lot," Sun Yuliang's gaze shifted between the computer screen and Jiang Yizhou as he typed away while chatting with him. "You really don't know how you learned this stuff. Your level is decent; it's just that your exposure is too limited. I really can't believe you reached this level without having encountered those things before!"
Jiang Yizhou smiled but didn't say anything. The earlier programmers were more versatile; back when software and hardware hadn't separated yet, many things that are now considered essential for computers didn't even exist yet. They had no choice but to become all-rounders. Later on, as technology developed and various fields branched out, most people could only specialize in one area. Jiang Yizhou was somewhat like that; he grasped theoretical concepts fairly well, but when it came to practical applications, he struggled. However, he learned quickly and could get started even if he couldn't delve deeper into any specific area.
After chatting for a while, Jiang Yizhou left and took the bus home, which took three stops. The distance was somewhat awkward; walking would take too long, and by the time he arrived at Uncle's place, the food might have gone cold. Since he didn't have any money, Jiang Yizhou was reluctant to spend on a bicycle and had to settle for taking the bus for now.
"Uh... Uncle, what's this?" Upon entering the house, he saw several people gathered around a table. Besides Uncle, there was Foreman Jiang Youming and a few others of similar age whom Jiang Yizhou did not recognize.
"Yizhou, sit down! These are all your Uncle's friends. Don't stand on ceremony. Wash your hands and come eat!" Jiang Youming said, his face slightly flushed from drinking, speaking in a loud manner.
Jiang Yizhou responded and thought to himself that it might be better to move out soon; living with the older generation always felt a bit uncomfortable. He put down his backpack, went outside to wash his hands, grabbed a bowl, lifted the lid of the pot, and found some buns that were likely bought on the spur of the moment. He picked up a large bun with chopsticks and sat down at the edge of the table.
"This is Maode's nephew from his hometown. He looks honest and clean; he's a good kid!" said a man in a cheap suit with his hair styled in a side part.
"Hey~~ he's not that honest, Old Song! This kid has been staying with me for a month, and after deducting his wages, he still owes me several dozen yuan. He spends money like water and can't hold onto cash!" Jiang Maode was a bit tipsy and although he didn't mention that he had borrowed three thousand yuan for a phone card, he let out some of his past frustrations.
Jiang Yizhou awkwardly smiled without showing his teeth, bowed slightly to Uncle's guests, and chose not to speak further as he began to fill his stomach.
"Hey, Lao Jiang, why is your nephew like this? I think this kid seems alright; why not have him come with me to collect scrap?" The man with the side part was named Song Yousong and worked in scrap collection.
Jiang Yizhou did not look down on him; instead, he thought he was quite capable. He wasn't like those people who rummaged through trash for small change. In his previous life, his parents had regretted it when several fellow villagers went into scrap collection together. Those who did well could become millionaires—not something to scoff at compared to his father.
Jiang Maode slammed the table and smacked his lips. "This kid wouldn't be interested in your scrap business; he's now teaching at a training class!"
At this point, Jiang Yizhou was completely sure that this was just mockery fueled by alcohol. He decided to ignore it; as long as it didn't escalate further, everything would be fine. He would start repaying his debts with his salary next month.
For these older generations, if they left their hometowns and made something of themselves, they might be more open-minded. However, Uncle's attitude was indeed disappointing for Jiang Yizhou, who preferred to do things his own way. Originally seen as an obedient and honest child, it seemed he had some thoughts of his own; after stumbling through life experiences, he would naturally become more grounded.
As a result, he felt increasingly distant from his thoughts, as if he were like that woman who married the big boss who left him for the South, living a better life.
"Oh, what's going on?" Old Song and a few others were quite curious and looked at Jiang Yizhou.
Jiang Yizhou awkwardly put down his utensils and swallowed the food in his mouth. "I just self-studied a bit and joined a Training Class..."
He didn't want to explain too much.
Seeing the atmosphere becoming more and more somber, Jiang Youming raised his glass. "Forget about that, come on, let's have a toast!"
Jiang Yizhou felt a pat on his shoulder; Foreman nudged him, saying, "Come on, the elders are raising their glasses. You should join in; don't tell me you can't even drink a beer?"
Then there was a clattering sound of glasses clinking together, with special attention given to Jiang Maode, hoping that getting him drunk would prevent him from bringing up unhappy topics.
After the meal ended, Jiang Yizhou asked the satisfied Jiang Youming, "What's going on here?"
"Your Uncle and I, along with these guys, were part of the early batch that ventured out. Old Song collected scrap; that Santana outside is his. He made some money and has a plump figure, looking like a boss. He's a chef, so sometimes when we gather, we go to his place for him to cook..."
