"Then why don't you just find one!" Jiang Yizhou picked up his chopsticks and continued along with Li Yue's words.
Li Yue was increasingly displeased, though it was unclear what exactly was bothering her.
Qin Yi, supporting her friend, complained to Jiang Yizhou, "Isn't this all your fault?"
The atmosphere became slightly tense, and Jiang Yizhou's movements paused. However, Qin Yi's next words relaxed everyone again.
"You lazy manager, throwing all the work onto Yue, especially since you went to the United States. That Wu Zong you brought back doesn't do anything either; he's busy preparing for other matters while Yue is left to handle everything alone, running around like crazy. She didn't even invite me out!"
Hearing this, Jiang Yizhou seemed to realize he had indeed gone a bit overboard. He immediately opened a bottle of beer for himself. "It's my fault; I've become a capitalist who exploits employees. I'll drink a bottle as an apology!"
"No way, no way! How can you drink beer? You have to at least have a bottle of baijiu!" Qin Yi had a couple of drinks and started getting a bit tipsy, completely disregarding that Li Yue was still Jiang Yizhou's subordinate and demanding justice for her good friend.
"Qin Yi, stop making a fuss. Yi Zhou, don’t listen to her; just do as you please," Li Yue hurriedly pulled the outspoken Qin Yi aside and whispered something to her, which finally calmed her down.
Jiang Yizhou couldn't quite understand what the two were doing but continued to gulp down his beer. His tolerance was about four or five bottles; he couldn't handle baijiu at all but could manage a few glasses of wine, although he would easily fall asleep afterward.
With some doubts in mind, Jiang Yizhou ignored the two and began introducing Ma Huateng and Zhang Zhidong to everyone. "Everyone, hold on for a moment; don't turn your heads. It's you—are you starving or something?"
Jiang Yizhou pointed at Ai Family, who was still stuffing his face with food. The others fell silent, and Ai Family finally raised his head with a pitiful expression and explained, "Boss, I didn't eat breakfast and skipped lunch for tonight's gathering..."
"That’s not acceptable! You've all waited so long; just a few more minutes!" Jiang Yizhou shot him a glare and then gestured toward Ma Huateng and Zhang Zhidong. "I believe everyone has seen these two before; they’ve had tea in the company twice!"
A burst of laughter erupted.
"Actually, these two are the leaders I've found for you—Ma Huateng and Mr. Zhang Zhidong are your bosses! The ones laughing earlier were just trying to butter them up!" Jiang Yizhou joked.
This time, the employees' teasing noticeably subdued. They had been spoiled when they first started working with Jiang Yizhou; as long as it wasn't excessive, joking around was always acceptable.
"Ma Ge, why don't you come up and say a few words?" Jiang Yizhou offered the opportunity to Ma Huateng, then sat back down, smiling as he waited to see what Ma Ge would say.
Ma Huateng stood up slightly awkwardly; these people would soon be his subordinates. "Everyone, I am Ma Huateng, from Deep City. Thanks to Jiang Yizhou, or as you all call him, the boss, for choosing me, or maybe it was just luck, since I didn't really go through much of an interview process!"
After finishing, he looked at Jiang Yizhou, implying that since he was chosen so haphazardly, he could only address them in this manner to set their expectations.
Jiang Yizhou was whispering with Ding Zhengnan, and when he noticed everyone's gaze shifting back to him, he said, "Yes, yes, I'm listening. Please continue!"
You’re listening? You seem completely absorbed.
Ma Huateng slightly twitched his facial muscles; what an unreliable boss. But if he were reliable, he probably wouldn't have chosen him in the first place. With that thought, he felt more at ease.
"Since I am here to work with all of you, I will do my best to help Zhengyi Technology grow and prosper. I also hope that all of you will join me in building Zhengyi Technology. Please feel free to give me your suggestions. Thank you all; that concludes my speech."
Ma Huateng spoke in a calm and low-key tone. After finishing those words, he adjusted his glasses and realized that he did not receive the enthusiastic applause he had expected. He could only sit down slightly embarrassed.
The employees realized that their style needed to change. Jiang Yizhou spent most of the year in America and rarely stayed at the company. The one who would directly manage them in the future would be this neatly styled Ma Ge, who spoke in a moderate manner and likely conducted himself in a calm and serious way.
...
"Yuejie, can you help me lift Yi Zhou up?" Jiang Yizhou was predictably drunk and had no real concerns. Ding Zhengnan struggled to lift the one-and-a-half-drunken six-foot-tall man and could only ask his colleague Li Yue for help while Qin Yi held onto something.
Li Yue paused for a moment but then stepped forward to assist Ding Zhengnan, lifting Jiang Yizhou from either side as they headed toward the car parked by the company.
Once at the car, Qin Yi unhesitatingly took the passenger seat and said to Ding Zhengnan, "Neither Li Yue nor I have a driver's license, so we’ll rely on you!"
Without thinking much about it, Ding Zhengnan let Li Yue help get Jiang Yizhou into the back seat before taking the driver's seat himself. After checking the rearview mirror for a moment and waiting for Li Yue to settle her boyfriend in, he started the car.
Li Yue felt that Qin Yi was being overly concerned. She only had a slight fondness for Jiang Yizhou, so was it really necessary to make such a fuss? It seemed that those who loved to drink often had thoughts that were hard to understand.
Her feelings towards Jiang Yizhou were more akin to admiration for an outstanding classmate from her school days. Naturally, because of his success and the contrast with his usual playful demeanor, she felt some fondness. However, this kind of fondness was similar to a score; although it might rank first in her heart, it still fell short of being substantial.
She also had her pride. If Jiang Yizhou were willing to pursue her earnestly, she would be open to it. However, the biggest issue between them was that there was no starting point. Unlike Ding Zhengnan, who had firmly recognized his feelings and pursued them fearlessly like a moth to a flame, her feelings were destined to remain mere conversation topics years down the line.
Throughout the journey, Jiang Yizhou simply slept soundly without causing any embarrassing incidents.
Upon arriving at their residence, the three of them helped Jiang Yizhou into the bedroom. Ding Zhengnan stayed behind to watch over him while the other two stepped outside.
"Yue, what's wrong with you? I've created opportunities for you, and you haven't seized any!" Qin Yi complained to her friend, feeling unusually lively after drinking.
"You brought this on yourself! Didn't you see he was with someone? Besides, I'm not that kind of person," Li Yue retorted, giving Qin Yi a light smack on the head for her reckless behavior after drinking.
"Yue, are you really not considering it?"
"Not at all!" Li Yue replied firmly. Acting on such fleeting feelings would be a waste of time.
