Inside the hall, the two had been fighting for a long time when Chengyang Jun finally sheathed his sword. He glanced at the sweaty Ji Xun and a faint smile appeared at the corner of his mouth. "Your Highness, are you feeling tired?"
Ji Xun gasped for breath. He knew his swordsmanship was inferior to Chengyang Jun's, but he hadn't expected the gap to be this wide. After fighting for so long, it was clear that Chengyang Jun was just toying with him.
He realized that this matter could not be resolved today, and he felt a bit frustrated; his impulsiveness had made him lose face.
He usually acted with composure and rarely lost his temper, but this time, for the sake of a soldier, he had squandered twenty years of cultivated demeanor in an instant. Looking back on it now, it seemed somewhat laughable.
Despite his inner frustration, he showed no signs of embarrassment on his face and smiled faintly at Zhong Xue. "Thank you, Lord Jun, for your mercy."
Zhong Xue also smiled lightly. He certainly could not allow the esteemed Zhao Country Prince to die in his residence; even a scratch would be unacceptable unless he truly wanted to go to war with Zhao Country.
However, this Zhao Country Prince clearly did not think so. He struck fiercely with his sword, as if intending to stab him through. Unfortunately... no matter how fierce he was, he was still like paper—easily torn apart.
Thus, a man must practice his swordsmanship well; failing to do so would lead to embarrassment, and if one were careless enough to lose their life, that would be even worse...
A playful smile hung on Zhong Xue's face, provoking annoyance in others yet leaving them with no outlet for their frustration.
Ji Xun steadied himself, knowing that Zhong Xue was deliberately trying to provoke him. He didn't want to argue further and lightly adjusted his sleeves. "Ji Xun has no further business here and will take my leave."
Zhong Xue's bright eyes sparkled with a smile. "Your Highness need not rush away. Although this spring cannot return home with you, your safety during your time in Wei Kingdom can be ensured by her."
Ji Xun's brow twitched slightly. "Is Chengyang Jun planning to place a spy before me?"
"Indeed." He actually admitted it, openly enough to provoke outrage from both gods and men.
Or perhaps... he had guessed that Ji Xun would never refuse such an arrangement.
"Thank you so much." Ji Xun cupped his hands in salute, but inwardly he was grinding his teeth in frustration.
There were only two people in the world who made him feel exhausted. One was Yan Dan, for whom he always felt helpless and even willingly obeyed her words. The other was Zhong Xue, who had a knack for driving him crazy, to the point where he didn't care about his reputation as "Young Master Wen Yu."
After their conversation, they turned to look at San Chun and found that she had fallen asleep against a pillar in the hall, with drool trickling from the corner of her mouth. She must be dreaming of some delicious food from the mortal realm.
It was a pity that despite their hard-fought battle, their only audience showed no interest at all, leaving them unsure whether to be angry or amused.
Zhong Xue walked over to her and couldn't help but smile. This spring indeed resembled that person, especially with that sleeping expression, which was almost a perfect match.
Unfortunately, daring to sleep in his residence meant she truly didn't value her life!
He raised his hand, intending to strike her neck hard. However, as he lifted it with full force, her pure sleeping posture dazzled him, and when he brought it down, he only used half the strength.
San Chun was dreaming that she had eaten all the delicacies on their table when suddenly her neck hurt. Thinking she had been caught stealing food, she instinctively cried out, "Spare me! I won't steal again!"
As she opened her eyes and saw Chengyang Jun and Young Master Ji Xun standing before her, she quickly wiped her mouth, relieved that there was no grease on it. She took a breath; this proved she hadn't stolen anything.
Ji Xun's anger had been boiling over, but upon seeing her adorably dazed expression, it suddenly dissipated by half, as if he had taken a calming pill.
He smiled slightly. "Chengyang Jun has ordered you to be my warrior; come with me."
San Chun understood that he was taking her away so she wouldn't be punished by Chengyang Jun and couldn't help but give him a grateful glance.
Ji Xun returned her smile.
Seeing the two of them staring at each other, Zhong Xue felt uncomfortable in her heart and coldly said, "Remember to return in ten days."
"Understood."
With a response, she followed Ji Xun out of the gate, constantly rubbing her neck as she walked. Chengyang Jun had been too rough; did he not fear that he might dislocate her neck with such a harsh blow?
If she ended up being a crooked-necked beauty, wouldn't that be a laughingstock?
Thinking about how she would be mocked, she couldn't help but glare fiercely at Zhong Xue. Just then, Zhong Xue happened to turn around, vaguely sensing a gaze coming her way. By the time she looked over, that gaze had already retreated like a rabbit back into its hole, leaving only two pointy ears exposed.
He couldn't help but find it amusing that she dared to glare at him; her courage was truly remarkable. Such an interesting person, it was indeed the right decision not to let Ji Xun take her back to Zhao.
After leaving the gate, Ji Xun did not hurry back to the inn but casually strolled with her. They walked for an unknown length of time until they suddenly came upon a scene filled with blooming flowers and ancient trees.
After last night's rain, the flowers and trees appeared even more vibrant and upright, shrouded in a thick mist that made it feel like walking in a hazy fairyland.
Having stayed in Daliang for several days, she had no idea there was such a beautiful place. San Chun rarely got to enjoy such exquisite scenery; her mood lifted dramatically as she reached out and plucked a willow branch, quickly weaving it into a flower crown. She didn't wear it but played with it in her hands.
Ji Xun watched her with a smile from behind. When she turned around, he asked, "Chengyang Jun allows you to protect me; do you agree?"
San Chun straightened up and shouted loudly, "That is what I wish!"
Ji Xun was amused by her posture and laughed, "With you by my side, I am not lonely."
"I am not lonely either."
The two looked at each other and smiled, as if they were long-time friends, sharing a deep connection.
This place was very close to Wei Wang Palace, resembling a garden in the city center, filled with greenery and a pleasant environment. There were also taverns and tea houses nearby, making it a great spot for romance.
As they walked along, they saw many young couples holding hands, some engaged and others unmarried, each face beaming with bright smiles. Despite the scorching summer heat, it felt refreshingly spring-like.
Ji Xun took her for a stroll around the area before heading to a restaurant where he ordered a table full of delicious dishes—chicken, duck, fish, and meat—to thank her for saving his life.
San Chun was naturally delighted; she was feeling hungry and didn’t wait for any formalities before grabbing her chopsticks and devouring the food. After a few bites, she suddenly looked up and saw Ji Xun not eating at all, just smiling at her. She couldn’t help but blush and unconsciously tried to act more ladylike.
In front of Azure Wind Antelope, she had never cared about her image when eating in front of Qing. Even in front of Zhong Xue, she didn’t feel embarrassed about losing face. But for some reason, at this moment, facing this jade-like gentleman, she felt an involuntary caution. She was afraid that any hint of recklessness would make him dislike her.
Ji Xun ate very little; most of the delicious food ended up in San Chun's stomach.
He casually picked at the lighter dishes while spending most of his time watching her.
In the past, Yan Dan loved to eat. Whenever they had meals together, she would always eat more than he did. At that time, he was still growing and was quite tall, yet he couldn’t compare to Yan Dan, who was shorter than him. He felt quite dissatisfied about it.
