Perhaps it was because of Daniel deceiving her that Natalie felt extremely angry. Whenever things did not go her way, she would unleash her fury directly at Daniel.
This left him in a miserable state, yet he had no way to retaliate, as his strength was no match for hers. Even if he fought back with all his might, it would be futile and would only invite stronger attacks.
"Hand over your badge."
Daniel was taken aback, not understanding what she wanted to do.
"What are you staring at? Hurry up and give it to me."
With another flash of electricity in her hand, Daniel was startled and quickly took out his badge to hand it over to her.
Natalie took out her own badge, and they held them together. The badges instantly emitted a surge of electricity.
When they returned the badges, Daniel keenly noticed a black dot appearing on his. Just as he was trying to figure out what had happened, Natalie helped explain.
"This is my Secret Mark. From now on, you can contact me through the badge if anything comes up. Remember, it must be serious business. If you dare to have any ulterior motives, I will come back and zap you."
The so-called Secret Mark is a tool for communication among Formal Wizards.
Every newly promoted Formal Wizard can design a unique identifier for themselves, similar to a noble crest. It represents the wizard themselves and allows for mutual exchange of Secret Marks for communication in the future.
Although Daniel and Natalie were not Formal Wizards, they were still Wizard Seeds, the favored ones of the academy, enjoying treatment that other apprentices could not compare to. Therefore, their badges also carried the function of a Secret Mark.
"I understand, I understand."
Daniel felt a surge of joy in his heart; this could be seen as an acknowledgment of his status. After all, a Wizard Seed with only the strength of a Second-Level Wizard Apprentice would be looked down upon wherever he went.
At least until now, he had not seen the other two Wizard Seeds in the academy. He didn't even know who they were!
This was clearly abnormal; the only explanation was that they did not regard him highly and thought he was not worth associating with. They didn't even have the interest to meet him.
In the Wizarding World, strength was paramount. When he was exploring the Underworld with Jim and others, he had backed out simply because their strength was too weak; he didn't want to play babysitter.
How could others respect companions whose strength differed so greatly? Perhaps such people existed, but more often they were treated as subordinates. It was impossible to gain equal status.
Natalie handing him the Secret Mark clearly acknowledged his potential and strength, indicating that she found it necessary to befriend him. Being recognized by a Wizard Seed made Daniel very happy, and he couldn't help but glance at her again.
"What are you looking at? What's so interesting?"
"Well, it's a beautiful woman; what's wrong with taking a look? Am I not allowed to look at a beautiful woman? Ahhhhh!"
Daniel felt frustrated. What was wrong with taking a look? She was being too domineering.
Natalie shot him a provocative glance as sparks crackled in her hand. "You men are all the same; if you fall into my hands, humph."
Daniel...
Women are hard to deal with; perhaps it's better to keep my distance.
When the two returned to Maxwell Mentor's Wizard Tower, Daniel was surprised to find both mentors viewing them through a projection.
A massive crystal on the wall resembled a television, displaying scenes of the two of them together.
The scene had reached its climax, and he had been shocked by Natalie, resulting in an explosive hairstyle. His originally smooth blonde hair stood straight up, and his face was slightly blackened; he looked utterly disheveled.
Daniel keenly sensed that the atmosphere in the Wizard Tower was off. Maxwell wore a smile, clearly pleased with his performance.
Gerald, on the other hand, was the complete opposite, wearing a cold expression and saying nothing.
The reason he had come to the Flame Throne Wizard Academy this time was that Natalie had successfully become a Wizard Seed, making her the top apprentice in the academy.
He had brought her along to show off to Maxwell, wanting to demonstrate how outstanding his teaching abilities were.
What if you won last time at Flame Throne? Do you have such an exceptional apprentice? How can you compare with me!
But reality had once again slapped him in the face. The other party had actually taken on a Wizard Seed as an apprentice, and that apprentice only had the strength of a Second-Level Wizard Apprentice, with potential far greater than Natalie's.
In a few years, surpassing Natalie would be easy.
Now, what good was it that Natalie could dominate? It was useless. A Third-Level Apprentice easily dealt with a Second-Level Apprentice; victory was expected, and failure would be problematic.
He stared at Daniel for a while before coldly saying, "Very well, I look forward to your progress. Had I known you were on the ship, I would have taken everything."
Daniel didn't know how to respond and could only bend deeper at the waist.
Maxwell laughed heartily. "It is precisely because I knew he was on the ship that I dared to fight you with confidence."
Gerald shot him a fierce glare; if you really knew, you wouldn't have been caught off guard by me. If it weren't for Daniel stepping up, he would have long become a laughingstock of the academy.
Unfortunately, it was precisely because of Daniel that he had become the laughingstock. Only when Natalie became a Wizard Seed did the situation begin to change.
Who would have thought that he lost again this time, feeling so frustrated inside.
After exchanging a few words with Maxwell, he hurriedly left with Natalie.
Maxwell smiled as he saw them off, then turned to Daniel. "Are you feeling quite pleased with yourself? Thinking that becoming a Wizard Seed makes you special. Thinking you can relax and slow down your pace."
"I wouldn't dare," Daniel replied, bowing respectfully.
"Not daring means you indeed have that thought. Fool, there are many in the Wizarding World and the Wizard Academy; as far as I know, there are at least eight thousand of them. What does our Flame Throne Wizard Academy count for? You may be at the top here, but in the broader Wizarding World, you're just excellent, so you absolutely cannot slack off."
Daniel broke into a cold sweat; he indeed had been feeling complacent. Having achieved such great success as a Second-Level Wizard Apprentice and becoming a Wizard Seed, how could he not feel proud?
Hearing Maxwell's reaction reminded him of an old saying: "There are always people better than you." What was he really worth? He was merely doing well in this particular area.
If he truly sought out those stronger than him, there were plenty to find. What reason did he have to slack off? How could he afford to be complacent?
To be fair, it was precisely because those prodigies were ahead of him that he dared to reveal his own strength. Compared to those geniuses, he appeared very ordinary.
For the sake of the alliance's generous rewards, mentors who wanted to cultivate more exceptional talents would not envy him or suppress him, let alone kill him. This allowed him to live so freely.
It was like the college entrance examination in his previous life; when a talented student emerged in a school, who wouldn't cherish them and want them to advance further to become a Top Scholar? This would bring fame to the school and attract more students.
Who would suppress out of jealousy?
No one.
The reason is that people's horizons have broadened. What can one talent achieve? Compared to past Top Scholars, no matter how talented or extraordinary one is, it ultimately doesn't matter.
To know, in the college entrance examination, there are top scholars with scores as high as 749, just one point away from the perfect score of 750.
Moreover, there are additional points in the college entrance examination, and if we include those extra points, there are several who have exceeded 750.
Who dares to say that anyone can definitely reach such a level?
And how can one talk about jealousy and suppression?
"Very well, I'm glad you understand. Follow me."
He led Daniel outside, all the way to the third underground level of the Dean's Wizard Tower, to a closed underground space.
The ground was engraved with intricate runes, especially the central platform, which was a massive Magic Array. Looking at the densely embedded Magic Stones above, nearly half were high-level Magic Stones, while the others were also mid-level Magic Stones.
Daniel suddenly felt an ominous sensation; this Magic Array seemed to be a Teleportation Array. What did the instructor bring him here for?
