On the morning of the twenty-first, when he opened the window, he saw that the previously empty Central Square had suddenly erected dozens of Arenas. The winning Wizard Apprentices from the elimination rounds would compete here.
Although the competition had not yet started, many participants and spectators had already gathered, with wizards flying overhead from time to time.
In just one night, dozens of Arenas had been set up in Central Square, making him marvel at the capabilities of wizards.
During the initial Arena matches, Daniel did not encounter any formidable opponents; his abilities placed him among the strongest in this competition, making it unlikely for him to face a worthy rival.
Unfortunately, among the six apprentices who had come with him, only six passed the elimination round. Of these six, only two made it through the first round of matches, and by the second round, only one remained.
Even so, seeing Cleveland's delighted expression, Daniel knew that such results were already quite good.
This time, hundreds of Wizard Academies and Wizard Towers were participating. Without truly top-tier talents, it would not be easy to secure a prominent position. Let's not forget that Daniel was also in the mix.
After two hours of holding two matches, the number of participants had significantly decreased to just over a hundred, and the number of strong contenders began to increase.
With the Judge's voice announcing the start, Daniel stepped into the Arena for his third match. As he looked at his opponent stepping up alongside him, his expression became serious.
In addition to the time spent competing, Daniel had observed all remaining contestants and gained a general understanding of which competitors were noteworthy and which ones were not. The one before him was definitely someone he needed to pay attention to.
Austen: an Earth-type Wizard Apprentice. Although he did not possess both metal and earth attributes like Reirfu, which allowed for both offense and defense, he claimed to be the Son of Earth. His defensive power was unparalleled; even when compared to a Spatial Barrier, it was uncertain who would prevail.
In his previous two matches, Austen had not attacked at all; he simply stood there allowing his opponents to strike. As a result, they could not even break through his shield and had no choice but to concede defeat.
Noticing Daniel's strength, Austen's expression grew somewhat serious but did not reach a level of fear.
For the first time, he took out a Tower Shield from his waist pouch. This was a genuine Tower Shield, standing two meters tall and three inches thick, resembling a reinforced door panel with spikes on top.
Austen slammed the Tower Shield onto the ground in front of him. He was completely shielded by it as a heavy yellow protective barrier rose above him. With a somewhat lazy tone, he said, "Go ahead; once you break my shield, we can truly fight."
This also indicated his regard for Daniel; in his previous two matches, he hadn't even brought out this Tower Shield or shown any interest in conversing with his opponents—he simply stood there and let them attack.
Daniel attempted to launch a fireball at the shield. A faint recoil was felt upon impact, but the shield showed no signs of change.
Seeing this, Daniel directly raised the staff in his hand, began to gather energy, and a fireball appeared above him, growing larger. As Daniel swung the staff, it suddenly fell down, directly striking the protective shield.
With a loud bang, the fireball exploded. However, immediately a tremendous force surged from the protective shield, acting directly on Daniel along the trajectory of the fireball, causing the shield around him to shake and making him stagger back two steps.
This was... a defensive rebound. He didn't expect that his protective shield also had the ability to rebound attacks. It seemed that breaking through his shield would indeed be very difficult.
It should be noted that Daniel had just used "Professor's Explosive Fireball," which was the most powerful spell in his regular repertoire. Yet for Austen, it merely caused ripples on the protective shield, without even a hint of breaking.
Even so, Austen was very shocked. He was known as Earth's Son, and his greatest pride was his unparalleled defense. He had specifically trained in counter-damage techniques; with his abilities, there were very few who could make his shield shake even when using their ultimate moves. Not to mention that Daniel clearly hadn't used his ultimate move; this was the first time he had encountered such a situation.
"Good, good, good! As expected of the Talent Wizard Championship. I didn't expect to meet a worthy opponent so soon. Please continue your attack and let me see where your limits lie."
His words were sincere; finding a worthy opponent was rare.
Since more than a decade ago when a powerful being capable of shattering his wizard shield became a Formal Wizard and left the academy, he had never encountered such a strong opponent again. How could he not be excited?
Daniel's expression was extremely serious; he knew victory would be difficult. It seemed he could only try using his strongest move to see if he could break through Austen's defenses.
However, before that, Daniel first cast "Fate's Abandonment Great Curse" on him.
Watching as the Devil's Skull entered Austen's body without being blocked by the protective shield, Austen asked in surprise, "What is this? Why can't the protective shield block it?"
Daniel ignored him and said, "You'll know soon enough. Let's settle this once and for all."
With that, he raised his staff and began chanting a spell. "Great Fire God, heed my summons; fire elements gather around me..."
However, as he chanted, what appeared at the tip of his staff was actually a mass of earth element particles. He continued chanting for a second time, and what appeared next was different—a mass of Golden Affinity element particles.
On the third chant appeared Water Element particles; on the fourth chant came Wood Element particles. By the fifth chant, a small fireball finally appeared.
Looking at that fireball, it would be impressive if it had a power of one hundred degrees; with such little power, it might not even be able to break through Austen's protective shield or even that of a Second-Level Apprentice.
But Austen did not dare underestimate it; since Daniel had created such a commotion, there must be a reason behind it.
As Daniel waved his staff, the earth element particles collided with the Golden Affinity element particles. Unbeknownst to them what changes occurred, the earth element particles surprisingly transformed into Golden Affinity element particles. The two elemental spheres merged together and grew larger.
Then it collided with the elemental particles of the Water Element, followed by the Wood Element. One after another, they collided and fused together. By the time it struck the fireball, all had transformed into Wood Element particles and were instantly ignited by the fireball, forming a massive fireball.
Due to its overwhelming power, Daniel clearly could not control it. The entire fireball began to emit a scorching light, and energy was slowly dissipating.
Daniel did not dare to be negligent; the fireball pressed down towards the protective shield with his movements.
Upon seeing Daniel's actions, Austen's expression changed drastically. This intense magical fluctuation was something he had never encountered before. He gripped the Tower Shield tightly, crouched down, and supported the Tower Shield for defense from behind.
With a loud bang, the azure fireball collided with the protective shield, emitting a dazzling light that was blinding.
Accompanied by a series of creaking and eerie sounds, the protective shield dented inward, covered in cracks, but ultimately managed to hold on. Austen knelt on the ground, with the Tower Shield pressing down on him. After a moment, he finally regained his composure, revealing a look of shock.
"What kind of magic is this? How can it break my protective shield? I can't believe this is real."
He was terrified; just moments ago, the protective shield had nearly shattered. It was only because he used the body of the Tower Shield to withstand it that he barely managed to hold on. If relying solely on the protective shield, it would have certainly been damaged.
However, this also meant that the Tower Shield had sustained damage; signs of melting appeared on its spikes, requiring repairs to restore it.
